I have programmed in VB before (vbexpress 2008) and used "formname.show()" to open and show new forms that I wished to open. I try the exact same code in vb10express(beta) and get errors! Did the code change? I cannot find any information on it if it did... or is it possibly a "betatest error" that needs to be addressed?

I programmed in VB6 but with VB2008 I have trouble with this:I have a table called Clientes (Clients). One of the fields is called Provincia (State), but this is a numeric field wich references to a Provincias table. So, when I show the Clientes from, the Provincias field must use a combobox with the province name instead of a textbox with a number.

I'm still passed from VB6 to VB2008 and...I found it very changed!I've learned in few days how to use the most used commands, but I've got a big problem in connecting to an Access Database.I saw that we can connect to a database using:
- wizard connection
- manual connection
I think that using the Wizard everything is more cleaned and I can reuse the code in a simple way.So I tried the Wizard Connection, but all the guide and tutorial explain the connections using DataGrid. I don't want to show DataGrid. I've learned how to import data in listboxes (also in auto-complete mode) but I cannot understand how to work on data in the way I prefer.
- I've got a combobox with a list of data
- When I "change" the selection (combobox_SelectedIndexChanged) you have to load related data (from another table) in a ListBox (in which I can add other items without inserting them in the DB)
- Send all the data loaded in this fields (there are also other data) to create a record in the DB (like "Order of Product")

As part of a larger application, I need to IMPORT (not link) a FoxPro 2.6 DBF into a Access DB.I toyed with using a Access MODULE and in the module, using the docmd.TransferDatabase method.I have looked for days at different samples and I cannot seem to find the answer. This application is intended to be distributed with NO ASSURANCE the user will have the FoxPro OLE driver installed. Knowing that the ODBC driver will most likely be installed as part of MDAC, it is pretty safe to use the ODBC driver that is already installed - Visual FoxPro Tables

I'mvery new to VB2008 and have basically no idea regarding much of coding. I have attached a copy of my form. Basically, I have a db named "employee.mdb" with table "Employee". It has 3 fields Name, Dept and Designation. I want to connect my db with the form and want the following functions (when the respective buttons are clicked)Add: Add a new record to the db and save it without overwriting an existing record.Delete: Delete the selected record from the dbSave: Save all details<<: Move to the previous record>>: Move to the next record. I hope I have explained myself clearly

I'm currently designing a client application that connects to a SQL Server 2005 database. My app is being used to display data, allows users to run reports and stats on the data. It is being developed using VB2008. Within my VB2008 project, the connection string to the DB is made via SQLEXPRESS.
The road block that I'm running into right now is that it only allows me to connect to a local DB file (.mdf) only. I tried to connect to a different DB file on a server within the same network domain, and it generated the following error:
"The file "U:Data.mdf" is on a network path that is not supported for database files. An attempt to attach an auto-named database for file U:Data.mdf failed. A database with the same name exists, or specified file cannot be opened, or it is located on UNC share." (where U: is a mapped network drive).
Below is the actual connection string in my code:
"SERVER=.SQLEXPRESS;AttachDbFilename=U:Data.mdf;Integrated Security=True;Connect Timeout=30;User Instance=True"
The intention is to have the DB reside on a server, where there is another application that runs as a service to collect the data and then populates this DB. Then my app would just connect to the database, and allows users to run reports based on the data in the DB.
I heard that this is the limitation of SQLEXPRESS: it will not allow connection to a remote database. This is true? If so, is there anyway that I can get around this limitation?
The main reason that I chose SQLEXPRESS in the first place is that because of the licensing issue. The company that I work for do not want to make the users of our software app have to purchase additional license for the full-blown SQL Server Enterprise edition. I also heard that SQL Server Enterprise edition does allow you to connect to a remote DB (.mdf) file.

Whilst writing a routine in Access I founf it rather fiddly for user...was thinking it would be much better for them to click a button in VB.net and that would do all the hard work.
So is it possible to do these task against a Acecss 2007 database
-Delete table
-Compact database (to clear out table)
-then run query to remake table
is this doable?

I am looking for some help in finding the best way to display a progress window for a module I am working on.I have a VB2008 app using an Access 2007 db. One of the MODULES in the Access db does a masterfile update and I want to show the user what is happening in process.
The VB2008 app calls the Access module to do all the work which is FAR FASTER than having VB2008 do all the work. The goal is to have a small window popup and display the progress. Once the process is done, close the window. How would you do this? Use a Access form? That works but it not clean looking at all. Is there something else that might work better?
Something like a msgbox that opens and can be updated while the process runs. Once the process is done, it can be closed. The user will not need to interact with this window - it's just to show the applications progress.

A simple database has been created in Access, which is just basically a table of text, with some images as entries. A form has been created in VB2008 Express and linked to the database. Either a combibox, text boxes or pictureboxes are linked to a column form the database. The first row entries are all displayed correctly in the relavant boxes (except for the images, which for some reason aren't displayed). If another value in the comibox is selected, the other box values don't change and there is still no images visible...

I have used VB (versions 2 - 6) through many years; however, I am crash-course training myself into the VB2008 / VB2010 world kicking a screaming. I would like suggestions as to what SQL database access method should I focus more on in my learning process without making me feel that I'm a million years behind. I know I have WinForms where I can create a datasourse and drag / drop fields or tables on a form to create a grid (not really what I'm looking for).
My trouble isn't so much designing the form but in how I access the database. Theres XML, LINQ to SQL, ADO.NET, and many other methods. Not only do I need to grasp these methods quickly but I also need to know what type of projects I should create. What I mean is...I was thinking that I would design a WinForm app; however, I see that there are WPF apps and others to chose from. This is getting deep. I know it depends on the project that I'm working on. My plans are to write an app based off of either an SQL Express 2008 or SQL Server 2008 database. This first app will be standalone for now but may later become multi-user. I know I'm far behind on my learning curve coming from VB6. I have read a bit on VB2005 / 2008 / 2010. I own
both VB2008 and VB2010. I use VB2008 at work. I know ADO.NET is still alive but by what I read online, it's a dying method and is only kept for backward compatibility. XML and LINQ to SQL and other methods are all pretty new to me.

I have inherited support for a program written in VB2008
The problem I have is as follows:
Users have a low screen resolution (company policy) and so can't see the bottom of a particular form.
The bottom of the form has buttons that allow them to navigate between its' four pages so they need to be able to see them. This being the case I need to add a scrollbar to the form.
If I try to drag and drop a vscrollbar from the toolbox it just sits there at runtime (you can slide the button on the toolbar up and down but nothing happens regarding scrolling the page.
All the reading I have done seems to point to forms being given scrollbars in accordance to the AutoScroll, AutoScrollMargin and AutoscrollMinSize properties of the Form itself.
By setting these properties I can get scrollbars to appear in the IDE but they are not there at runtime.
I think I'm probably missing something really obvious here but, so far, have been unable to work out what it is.
