View 1 RepliesI programmed in VB6 but with VB2008 I have trouble with this:I have a table called Clientes (Clients). One of the fields is called Provincia (State), but this is a numeric field wich references to a Provincias table.So, when I show the Clientes from, the Provincias field must use a combobox with the province name instead of a textbox with a number.
View 9 RepliesI have used VB (versions 2 - 6) through many years; however, I am crash-course training myself into the VB2008 / VB2010 world kicking a screaming. I would like suggestions as to what SQL database access method should I focus more on in my learning process without making me feel that I'm a million years behind. I know I have WinForms where I can create a datasourse and drag / drop fields or tables on a form to create a grid (not really what I'm looking for).
My trouble isn't so much designing the form but in how I access the database. Theres XML, LINQ to SQL, ADO.NET, and many other methods. Not only do I need to grasp these methods quickly but I also need to know what type of projects I should create. What I mean is...I was thinking that I would design a WinForm app; however, I see that there are WPF apps and others to chose from. This is getting deep. I know it depends on the project that I'm working on. My plans are to write an app based off of either an SQL Express 2008 or SQL Server 2008 database. This first app will be standalone for now but may later become multi-user. I know I'm far behind on my learning curve coming from VB6. I have read a bit on VB2005 / 2008 / 2010. I own
both VB2008 and VB2010. I use VB2008 at work. I know ADO.NET is still alive but by what I read online, it's a dying method and is only kept for backward compatibility. XML and LINQ to SQL and other methods are all pretty new to me.
I have a 4 table database and need to query at least 2 tables (the single table query works fine). The output goes in textboxes / labels on an existing form.
I'm trying something like this:
Private
Sub AddCustomer_Load(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles MyBase.Load
[Code].....
I want a to create a combo box that gets the selectable items from a table and when I save the form I want the selected item saved to a different table. I'm sure this is simple I'm not a database wiz and still very much a newbie.
View 4 RepliesI have a 5 tables in my database and i want to access all my tables togather at a time.e.g.I have a code for one table i.e. rs.Open "select * from Group_info", con, adOpenDynamic, adLockBatchOptimistic. instead of Group_info table i want to access 5 tables also as Login_table,User_info table,group_name table etc. How i do that
View 11 RepliesI want to see if anyone has used one table that has a primary key (not displayed) in the DataGridView. Then use a text box on the same form to call and group what if viewed in the DataGridView table. I want to group the displayed data of the DataGridView by the primary key of both tables.
View 1 RepliesSQL statements:
SQL = "SHOW TABLES;"
Try
conn.Open()
The remarked area works fine when I'm accessing a specific table. I've successfully inserted the products_model field into the combobox too. The datagridview does show the table names in the db using the SHOW TABLES sql statment, but I'm not understanding how to get this info into the combobox instead.
i was joined newly in the website. And my prob is , we are using Visual Studio 2008 with VB Coding.I want to connect MS Access 2007 Database.i want to display view values in the dropdown list where these values will come through database.when i click on the dropdown list (combobox) the values will come.

I have programmed in VB before (vbexpress 2008) and used "formname.show()" to open and show new forms that I wished to open. I try the exact same code in vb10express(beta) and get errors! Did the code change? I cannot find any information on it if it did... or is it possibly a "betatest error" that needs to be addressed?
View 3 RepliesI have a DGV that has a check box in the first column to indicate marked rows. After the user marks the rows they want then the OK button is pressed and the form closes. I need the row data that they marked to be transferred some sort of temp db (preferably in memory - 30 rows or less) so I can insert the data to a tabbed UserControl. I also would like to retain that row data while they are working so in case they want to open the form with the DGV again that the previous marked rows show up.

I am having no issues reading from an Access database, just when I am trying to add a record to the database I am getting no results. I am using a 64bit computer, and am aware about running in the x86 solution platform. I am getting the result that it hassuccessfully added. But nothing is showing up in Access

I'm still passed from VB6 to VB2008 and...I found it very changed!I've learned in few days how to use the most used commands, but I've got a big problem in connecting to an Access Database.I saw that we can connect to a database using:
- wizard connection
- manual connection
I think that using the Wizard everything is more cleaned and I can reuse the code in a simple way.So I tried the Wizard Connection, but all the guide and tutorial explain the connections using DataGrid. I don't want to show DataGrid. I've learned how to import data in listboxes (also in auto-complete mode) but I cannot understand how to work on data in the way I prefer.
- I've got a combobox with a list of data
- When I "change" the selection (combobox_SelectedIndexChanged) you have to load related data (from another table) in a ListBox (in which I can add other items without inserting them in the DB)
- Send all the data loaded in this fields (there are also other data) to create a record in the DB (like "Order of Product")
I have built an app in VB2008 that uses an Access database (accdb).I need to add some fields to some tables.
View 4 RepliesI'm using VB2008 with MS Access Database.I make connection with DB by using the automatically way (by add a new data source ....)I create the Sql in "SELECT id, na, num FROM Table1" by add query to Table1TableAdapter, and add this code in form to call the sql :
Me.Table1TableAdapter.Fill(Me.AcddDataSet.Table1)
And it succeed with me
I tried same way with insert data to DB like this

I have acess database and it has one table name as "SMF" and that table has 4 fields (Item_code,Item_name,Item_decription and unitprice) I have 2 quetions
1. I want enter the Item_code to the datagridview combobox colume
2. when i select one Item_code i want to automatically enter the Item_name,Item_discription and unit price of that Item_code to the datagridview colume
I currently have both DGV.CellMouseClick & DGV.CellMouseDoubleClick implimented in my code.The DGV.CellMouseDoubleClick never fires and the DGV.CellMouseClick always fires. The only exception is when I position the cursor between DGV cells and get the double arrow. If I double click with the double arrow then I get the DGV.CellMouseDoubleClick to fire

Knowing that the ODBC driver will most likely be installed as part of MDAC, it is pretty safe to use the ODBC driver that is already installed - Visual FoxPro Tables

View 6 RepliesI'mvery new to VB2008 and have basically no idea regarding much of coding. I have attached a copy of my form. Basically, I have a db named "employee.mdb" with table "Employee". It has 3 fields Name, Dept and Designation. I want to connect my db with the form and want the following functions (when the respective buttons are clicked)Add: Add a new record to the db and save it without overwriting an existing record.Delete: Delete the selected record from the dbSave: Save all details<<: Move to the previous record>>: Move to the next record. I hope I have explained myself clearly

View 8 RepliesI'm currently designing a client application that connects to a SQL Server 2005 database. My app is being used to display data, allows users to run reports and stats on the data. It is being developed using VB2008. Within my VB2008 project, the connection string to the DB is made via SQLEXPRESS.
The road block that I'm running into right now is that it only allows me to connect to a local DB file (.mdf) only. I tried to connect to a different DB file on a server within the same network domain, and it generated the following error:
"The file "U:Data.mdf" is on a network path that is not supported for database files. An attempt to attach an auto-named database for file U:Data.mdf failed. A database with the same name exists, or specified file cannot be opened, or it is located on UNC share." (where U: is a mapped network drive).
Below is the actual connection string in my code:
"SERVER=.SQLEXPRESS;AttachDbFilename=U:Data.mdf;Integrated Security=True;Connect Timeout=30;User Instance=True"
The intention is to have the DB reside on a server, where there is another application that runs as a service to collect the data and then populates this DB. Then my app would just connect to the database, and allows users to run reports based on the data in the DB.
I heard that this is the limitation of SQLEXPRESS: it will not allow connection to a remote database. This is true? If so, is there anyway that I can get around this limitation?
The main reason that I chose SQLEXPRESS in the first place is that because of the licensing issue. The company that I work for do not want to make the users of our software app have to purchase additional license for the full-blown SQL Server Enterprise edition. I also heard that SQL Server Enterprise edition does allow you to connect to a remote DB (.mdf) file.
I have two tables in one to many relationship in an access 2003 database.I am using vb6 and visual studio 2008.I want a data entry form (in grid view) for child table. I want to display & add, Update, delete child records accordingly with parent.
i.e. What I require is One combo box displaying a parent field and corresponding child entries will be shown in grid view. Data entry form for parent table may be on separate form.Is there a full sample source code for above mentioned theme.
VB2008 with MS Access Database updated related data ?
View 9 RepliesWhilst writing a routine in Access I founf it rather fiddly for user...was thinking it would be much better for them to click a button in VB.net and that would do all the hard work.
So is it possible to do these task against a Acecss 2007 database
-Delete table
-Compact database (to clear out table)
-then run query to remake table
is this doable?
find the underlying DataGridView (DGV) when responding to a Right Click on a ToolStripMenu (TSM).I have several DGV's all using the same ContextMenuStrip (CMS) [DGV.ContextMenuStrip=CMS]I have six ToolStripMenuItems under the CMS. I thought I could just add a unique handler for each of the ToolStripMenuItems and be a happy camper on each Right Click...But I cannot figure a way to decode the underlying DGV. There doesn't seem to be any relationships between DGV and TSM and none between CMS and TSM.Is this path a dead end? If so how should one do it? FYI my DGV data is unbounded.
