View 4 RepliesI have an existing VB6 application which permits two or more users to work with local relicated MS Access databases. At start-up and shut down the local database synchronize with the master database (if the network permits dialogue) using
mDb1.Synchronize etc.
I am trying to port the application over to VS2010 and I cannot find anything equivalent to permit occasional synchronizing of various replicated MS Access databases with the master database (again, if the network permits contact between the two machines). Has anyone found a way of doing this for Access databases (not SQL Server databases)?
Works fine in VB6 but VS2010 has me beaten at the moment.
I'm building a money management type application for just overall practice with Visual Basic, and I'm having issues modifying a number.It's a checkbook ledger, which stores the information in the text boxes into an access database. When you first load the screen, it asks you for your account balance (still a work in progress) which puts that data into a label on the form. When you add a record to the database, that new amount will get added/subtracted to what you typed in for your account balance.The problem I'm running into is the save function will first check if a radio button is clicked or not and negate the amount depending if you click Credit or Debit. Then after that's done, it performs the Sum aggregate function on the Amount Column in my database which puts the number into a variable. That variable is then added to the account balance that you typed in.I'll supply two of the functions that this is regarding. The Balance() function runs when you first start the form, and the Save() function is where the math happens.The accountAmount variable is declared under Public Class so that way the save function can use the variable to do the math required.

I am using the following code to alter an table imported from an Excel spreadsheet
Dim SQL As String = "ALTER TABLE receipts ADD payee integer, account integer, category integer, reconciled boolean"
Dim dataread As New OleDb.OleDbCommand()
dataread.Connection = Connection1
[code]....
Both ExecuteNonQuery() actions yields the exception message {"Syntax error in field definition."}The error message does not happen with the first if the boolean column is not there (I tried Tes/No as a definition - but that also failed.The second query to modify the ID column from autonumber to integer I assume fails because it is a Primary KeyHas?
I wish to display two images (of minerals as seen under microscope in different light conditions).I want to use Queens_Image Control to display the images because this control allows smooth panning and zooming of the image.I want to know is there a way I can link one Queens_Image Control with another Queens_Image control on the same form in such a way that when the image in one of the Queens_Image Control is zoomed and/or panned, the image in the other Queens_image Control should be zoomed /panned identically.
View 3 RepliesI am writing a text editor application which uses an advanced third party text editor. This editor allows the user to set Bookmarks and use Outlining, just like the editor in Visual Studio. The output of my application is a ".script" file, which is basically just a text file. This file is read later by a game, and I can therefore not change anything to the layout of the file. It must be a simple text file.
When the user saves any document, I would like my application to also store the Bookmarks in that document, and the state of any Outlining ranges (collapsed or expanded). The editor allows me to do this by using a special Save feature, which saves the contents of the editor (the text), along with its properties, bookmarks, outline ranges, etc to an XML file. I can also load this XML file back. Now there is one obvious problem: my application should still output its documents as ".script" files, which are just normal text files as said above. Therefore, I cannot use the XML files that also hold the properties/bookmarks etc directly, since the game cannot read those!
I have programmed in VB before (vbexpress 2008) and used "formname.show()" to open and show new forms that I wished to open. I try the exact same code in vb10express(beta) and get errors! Did the code change? I cannot find any information on it if it did... or is it possibly a "betatest error" that needs to be addressed?
View 3 RepliesI programmed in VB6 but with VB2008 I have trouble with this:I have a table called Clientes (Clients). One of the fields is called Provincia (State), but this is a numeric field wich references to a Provincias table.So, when I show the Clientes from, the Provincias field must use a combobox with the province name instead of a textbox with a number.

I'm still passed from VB6 to VB2008 and...I found it very changed!I've learned in few days how to use the most used commands, but I've got a big problem in connecting to an Access Database.I saw that we can connect to a database using:
- wizard connection
- manual connection
I think that using the Wizard everything is more cleaned and I can reuse the code in a simple way.So I tried the Wizard Connection, but all the guide and tutorial explain the connections using DataGrid. I don't want to show DataGrid. I've learned how to import data in listboxes (also in auto-complete mode) but I cannot understand how to work on data in the way I prefer.
- I've got a combobox with a list of data
- When I "change" the selection (combobox_SelectedIndexChanged) you have to load related data (from another table) in a ListBox (in which I can add other items without inserting them in the DB)
- Send all the data loaded in this fields (there are also other data) to create a record in the DB (like "Order of Product")
i created 20 tables in ms access.. and only one table is connected to vb 2008 using the DataGridView?.. how can put the remaining tables in ms access to the vb 2008?

Unless someone knows of a way to do this already in windows, what's the best method for (using a background worker) checking all of the files & subfolders in a folder against another folder in an external usb hdd?
I'd like it to copy only the files that's changed since the last backup, and it'd be nice if I could right-click on a folder (which i can easily google this one, it's a common thing) and select my program and it'd pop up a window to get the destination (since the source is known from the windows context menu) and only copy (overwriting the existing files/folders) that've changed since the last backup.
I have developed an application on my phone to manage my money. I would like to create an application on my pc to get the local database from my winphone to be able to display informations... and have a backup. I would also like to be able to restore my data back to my winphone if there is a crash.

View 1 RepliesAs part of a larger application, I need to IMPORT (not link) a FoxPro 2.6 DBF into a Access DB.I toyed with using a Access MODULE and in the module, using the docmd.TransferDatabase method.I have looked for days at different samples and I cannot seem to find the answer.This application is intended to be distributed with NO ASSURANCE the user will have the FoxPro OLE driver installed. Knowing that the ODBC driver will most likely be installed as part of MDAC, it is pretty safe to use the ODBC driver that is already installed - Visual FoxPro Tables
View 1 RepliesI'mvery new to VB2008 and have basically no idea regarding much of coding. I have attached a copy of my form. Basically, I have a db named "employee.mdb" with table "Employee". It has 3 fields Name, Dept and Designation. I want to connect my db with the form and want the following functions (when the respective buttons are clicked)Add: Add a new record to the db and save it without overwriting an existing record.Delete: Delete the selected record from the dbSave: Save all details<<: Move to the previous record>>: Move to the next record. I hope I have explained myself clearly

View 8 RepliesI'm currently designing a client application that connects to a SQL Server 2005 database. My app is being used to display data, allows users to run reports and stats on the data. It is being developed using VB2008. Within my VB2008 project, the connection string to the DB is made via SQLEXPRESS.
The road block that I'm running into right now is that it only allows me to connect to a local DB file (.mdf) only. I tried to connect to a different DB file on a server within the same network domain, and it generated the following error:
"The file "U:Data.mdf" is on a network path that is not supported for database files. An attempt to attach an auto-named database for file U:Data.mdf failed. A database with the same name exists, or specified file cannot be opened, or it is located on UNC share." (where U: is a mapped network drive).
Below is the actual connection string in my code:
"SERVER=.SQLEXPRESS;AttachDbFilename=U:Data.mdf;Integrated Security=True;Connect Timeout=30;User Instance=True"
The intention is to have the DB reside on a server, where there is another application that runs as a service to collect the data and then populates this DB. Then my app would just connect to the database, and allows users to run reports based on the data in the DB.
I heard that this is the limitation of SQLEXPRESS: it will not allow connection to a remote database. This is true? If so, is there anyway that I can get around this limitation?
The main reason that I chose SQLEXPRESS in the first place is that because of the licensing issue. The company that I work for do not want to make the users of our software app have to purchase additional license for the full-blown SQL Server Enterprise edition. I also heard that SQL Server Enterprise edition does allow you to connect to a remote DB (.mdf) file.
I have two tables in one to many relationship in an access 2003 database.I am using vb6 and visual studio 2008.I want a data entry form (in grid view) for child table. I want to display & add, Update, delete child records accordingly with parent.
i.e. What I require is One combo box displaying a parent field and corresponding child entries will be shown in grid view. Data entry form for parent table may be on separate form.Is there a full sample source code for above mentioned theme.

View 9 RepliesWhilst writing a routine in Access I founf it rather fiddly for user...was thinking it would be much better for them to click a button in VB.net and that would do all the hard work.
So is it possible to do these task against a Acecss 2007 database
-Delete table
-Compact database (to clear out table)
-then run query to remake table
is this doable?
I'm trying to retrieve data from an Access database - a simple one. (Just a single table with one column) My task is to view these records through a 'ListView'. No need to manipulate or anything. Just to retrieve data with a simple SQL statement and display via a ListView.
