Multiple Project Executable's?

Jan 17, 2010

My project will be a collection of 3 projects that have similar GUI's and call on common assemblies. I want my project to contain 3 executable files when published that will load one of the designated smaller projects. Each of the smaller projects is designed to perform a different task, yet they are all similar in terms of looks and how the user interacts with the program. The best way to picture it would be MS Office. All the office programs (excel, word etc..) are part of the same package, and look similar but they perform different tasks. You can load any of these programs by opening the relevant .exe file, which is exactly what i want to do with my application.

Making A Project Into An Executable File?

Jun 28, 2010

I'm very new at using Visual Studio (about 3 days!). I want to create a project that I created into an executable file. The help menu states that I should go under the 'File' drop down menu and select 'Make' to convert into an .exe format. However, the 'Make' selection is not present under the 'File' drop down menu. How can I make a project into an executable file??

How To Embed Multiple Icons Into Executable

Feb 10, 2008

I'm trying to embed 3 icons into a VB .NET exe. After searching for a number of hours, I ended up using this page as a guide. I made a .res file with my icons. But I cannot, for the life of me, find how to to import that .res file into my project using the IDE. The above mentioned guide mentions something about that, but no "Resources" group box is available in the Application tab of the properties Page of the project.

After more searching, it seems that the only way a .res file can be imported is by using the /win32resource compiler switch. I can use that switch only if I use the command line to compile my project. Is there any way I can add that extra compiler switch in the IDE, so that every time I compile, the .res file is automatically imported? I'm using VB in VS 2008.

Deployment :: Can An Executable Program Create An Executable File

May 17, 2012

I have a program that outputs a file. I want the user to be able to just double-click the output file and launch the program, just like Word and Excel. In Word for instance, one doesn't necessarily have to open WORD then click on File--> Open and locate another Word doc. He can just go to the folder and open the Word doc. I want to implement the exact scenario in my program.

So far I have tried creating TextFile and added it to the Resources. On FormLoading, I simply I stream-read the Resouce file, but I can't write to the Resource on FormClosing, since the Resource is ReadOnly. Also, the Resource is built & compiled so I suppose you can't add anything to it at run time. How you lunch an output file without launching the Executable program that created it?

Executable On Vista - Open The Executable It Goes To A "WindowsApplication1?

Jun 1, 2009

I have an executable that I was able to get working on all XP machines by registering all the .dll's associated with it.On Vista, however, I go through the exact same registration process but right when I open the executable it goes to a "WindowsApplication1 has stopped working" dialog. I registered the DLLs in the SysWOW64 folder. I also ran Dependency Walker which came up with IEFrame.dll as flagged, don't know if that is relevant though.

VS 2010 1 Project - Multiple Project Types ?

Sep 30, 2011

A colleague has written a useful tool. He wrote it as a standalone tool, but it works even better as an includable dll, though it needs a bit of other functionality for it to be a really good drop-in component. What I am wondering is whether a project can be compiled as both an exe and as a dll?

There are alternatives, such as having a dll version and an exe version, since the dll version needs to include a few different methods that the exe version doesn't need, but this alternative sucks, since it would mean changing two sets of code.

Another alternative is to build the dll, then change the exe to be a project that references the dll....and does nothing other than calling one method in the dll. That kind of sucks, too, but not as bad.

I want to be able to use his module in some of my programs, and it really should be built as a component rather than a standalone app, but I want to know whether there are other options that I haven't considered.

Generate Executable From An Executable?

Jul 24, 2011

I Actually want to provide a new service which requires creating executables on the fly from executables generated in vb.net. For example lets say I have a form with a textbox and in that textbox we pass an argument which is for example the serial of the product, then we have a button which once clicked will generate an executable on the fly which has also a textbox requiring that serial to run? That was only an example but the main thing is how to generate that exe on the fly.

IDE :: .net Deployment With Multiple Project Output?

Multiple Project Solution And Child To MDI Interaction?

Aug 12, 2010

I have a multiple project solution with a main MDI form in the root of the solution and the child forms in individual project beneath the root. Like this

Solution1
.. frmMDI
Project1
....frmChild1

[code]....

To interact with the children I set a Resource to Project1 and Project2, and from frmMDI I can interact with Project1.frmChild1 and Project2.frmChild2. I have a toolbar on frmMDI that I would like to interact with from the children. If the children are in the root of the solution, I can interact with the toolbar by simply addressing frmMDI.toolbar1. I can't figure out how to interact with frmMDI when the children are in individual projects. That is, the children do not seem to see frmMDI in the root of the solution. I can't set a Resource back to Solution1 because it would be circular.

VS 2010 Reusing A Very Specific Project For Multiple Solutions?

First of all, I wasn't sure whether this was VB.NET or General Developer content... It's not technically about VB.NET code, but it's not very general either since it is specifically about Visual Studio. Feel free to move it if required.A while back I realized that all of my database connection code was getting very biolerplate. had 'developed' my own method of connecting to an Access database and storing the results. Basically, for each table I create one 'Manager' class and one 'Entity' class. The Entity class represents a single record in the database and has properties for each field.
