View 9 RepliesI have an executable that I was able to get working on all XP machines by registering all the .dll's associated with it.On Vista, however, I go through the exact same registration process but right when I open the executable it goes to a "WindowsApplication1 has stopped working" dialog. I registered the DLLs in the SysWOW64 folder. I also ran Dependency Walker which came up with IEFrame.dll as flagged, don't know if that is relevant though.
View 6 RepliesI'd like to know... well, I have finished a project managing databases and all that stuff... and using ADO.NET, some databases and the main program, I'd like to compile it all to make an installation and use those databases. If I use the exex that is inside the debug folder... in other computers gives error and don't show the content of the databases. What I want is just the exe but with the databases visible in the other cpus, how to install the app in any windows computer and what I need to know or give is:
If I have my installator and I give this to a friend, he can use the databases ? He need the SQL 2005 Management to see that content of the databases ? Or I can just give him the program and work with the databases??
I built a program in visual studio 2005 that access a Microsoft Access database. I need this program to be a standalone program on many machines. To do this, I need to install a copy of the database when the program installs. I tried including it in the application files part of the build, but the problem I am having is the connection strings dont update with the install. It still tries to point to the folder it is in on the comnputer i built the program.

View 3 RepliesI have a VB application that uses databases and writes information onto an Excel-file. I have the Excel-file in my Project folder(Visual Studio 2008ProjectsProjectXProjectXExcel objektitListy.xls)Every time I open up my project I get the following error:[code]The thing is, I don't know why the error starts up in the first place. Why is the VS 'unable to open the module file' even though it exists in that folder and can be opened normally? Also, why does the error disappear when the file is opened manually from the containing folder?

View 3 RepliesI just started using visual basics 2010 and spent a few hours making a project. I saved my project and was given three files. X.vb,
X.Designer.vb and X (a .net managed resource file) (X is the name of the project) How do I open up the project again so I can continue editing it.
I've spent weeks working on a project. I develop on both of my computers (Desktop and Laptop) which are both equipped with VS Express 2010. The programs debug, and compile with no issues on both of my machines, even when the .exe is removed from the debug folder and placed elsewhere. However, when I try and run the program on my brother's computer, the initial form jumps up on the screen as desired. Then the program is designed to open the next form upon the click of a button. When that button is pushed, we get the following:
See the end of this message for details on invoking just-in-time (JIT) debugging instead of this dialog box.

Having just downloaded the Visual Studio 2010 Ultimate Beta, I decided to code from scratch a little project I coded under 2008 VB.Net and see how it goes. However, when I click on "New Project", select new Windows Form Application project and try to open it, I get the following error dialog box & msg:
"Unable to cast COM object of type 'System.__ComObject' to interface type
'Microsoft.VisualStudio.Editor.Implementation.IVsGlobalUndoCapableUndoManager'. This operation failed because the QueryInterface call on the COM component for the interface with IID'{305E8709-55B7-4732-B872-1C073AB58047}' failed due to the following error: No such interface supported (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80004002 (E_NOINTERFACE))."
Anybody have any ideas what's up here, or should I post this in a different area? I tried posting this in the Microsoft MSDN Visual Basic IDE Forum but so far I have not received a reply.
When creating a new project I get an messages stating "Access to the path 'C:userscontrollerAppDatalocal emporaryProjectsMazeMy ProjectAssemblyInfo.vb' is denied.
View 4 RepliesMy project will be a collection of 3 projects that have similar GUI's and call on common assemblies. I want my project to contain 3 executable files when published that will load one of the designated smaller projects. Each of the smaller projects is designed to perform a different task, yet they are all similar in terms of looks and how the user interacts with the program. The best way to picture it would be MS Office. All the office programs (excel, word etc..) are part of the same package, and look similar but they perform different tasks. You can load any of these programs by opening the relevant .exe file, which is exactly what i want to do with my application.

View 5 RepliesFor reasons that are beyond my control, I have three Projects. Projects A and B reference project C. Project A references project B so that it can open a large form in project B. I now need to open that large form from project C, but VB won't allow me to add a reference from C to B because that would create a circular dependency. I found a way around it, though. I created a Timer in A, and when I opened C from A, I passed in that timer. When the user performs a certain action, I enable the Timer from A, and this causes C to open B for me.

View 1 RepliesI'm very new at using Visual Studio (about 3 days!). I want to create a project that I created into an executable file. The help menu states that I should go under the 'File' drop down menu and select 'Make' to convert into an .exe format. However, the 'Make' selection is not present under the 'File' drop down menu. How can I make a project into an executable file??
