NetworkStream.Write() Slow When Writing Back Received Data To Browser?

Apr 13, 2012

I am building a simple proxy in server vb.NET and so far it has been successful, but then whenever i receive data from the internet and write it back to my browser's network stream using NetworkStream.Write the received data tends to come up slowly to my browser due to reasons i do not know of. But when I chain my application to another Proxy/listener on my local computer (e.g Privoxy), data seems to come up very fast to my browser. If anyone has an answer to this I would really love to know.btw here is the part of my code {subroutine} that receives data and forwards to my browser.

Public Sub ForwardRequest(ByVal Client As TcpClient, ByVal ClientMessage As String)
Dim Browser As TcpClient = Client
Dim BrowserStream As NetworkStream = Browser.GetStream

NetworkStream - Finding Out What Is Being Received

Sep 5, 2010

This question is about trying to find a way of telling what is being sent of the NetworkStream as in whether it is Text or Binary. For example I could have a Server program on my Girlfriends computer and the Client Program on mine, two functions on each:

Server: Textbox for catching any text sent (like a chat for example) and a function for receiving files (like an EXE or others)
Client: Textbox for sending text to the client (again like chat) and a function for sending files (again like EXE or others)

How do you code the server to tell it how to determine which is which (Binary or Text) and further more what if the file being sent isn't an EXE, what if its an image or a text file or other type? I already know how to send a file through to the server and put it back together on the other side but thats only sending an EXE file. I'd want to enable an update functionality in the server so it can receive a message from the client saying its sending through an update which once the server gets the message it will know what to do on the other end (i.e. stopping itself whilst the update.exe is running and copying over the new file).

Javascript - Writing Back A Function Through Response.Write()?

Apr 12, 2012

I am trying to return a javascript function using response.write in an aspx page. The problem is that the function i am returning has lots of quotes and they are conflicting with the repsonse.write syntax. Here is a sample code:

Response.Write(" If hello.StartsWith("H", StringComparison.InvariantCultureIgnoreCase) OrElse hello.StartsWith("W", System.StringComparison.InvariantCultureIgnoreCase) Then")

This is giving me a problem as the quotes inside are cutting off the response early. Is there a better way to do this?

Write The Data Back To The Database?

May 17, 2012

I am having a problem with an application that displays data in datagridview depending on a selection from a combo box.The problem occurs when I want to write the data back to the database.

I get the following error:"Update unable to find TableMapping['Product'] or DataTable 'Product'."

Is this because the table in the dataset is filled in a private sub? If so how do I make it public?

Any ideas what is wrong. Code is as follows:

Networkstream Write Only Returns First Result (need All)?

Mar 19, 2012

My code looks very similar to this post Read bytes from NetworkStream (Hangs), which I copied below. ( I realize this is c# - I need a vb solution)

[Code]...

My issue lies in this:

I have a form that takes user input on which tif file(s) to find (which ends up being the getBytes(message) ). When one does this, it always returns one result - the first tif file that fits the criteria, However, I know in certain instances I should recieve more than one match.

Then I send the results to a picturebox and should be able to scroll through results (which this part works fine)I've tried a few ways to get multiple results, but maybe I'm missing the obvious? My best guess is using the asyncronous beginread/write.I've attempted using a for loop but I end up getting a bunch of the same tif files as a result..

Paint Application Writing Very Slow - Needs To Be Quicker

I found some code online for a vb paint application and I modified it for my use, which is a signature application. It uses a tablet connected to the pc to write the signature on the screen and then save it as a bitmap for later retrieval. The only issue i am having right now is that if you write on the tablet too fast, the signature gets broken up alot, any way to quicken the paint process in the code so that I can get a smoother signature?

Here is my code:

Asp.net - Writing To Excel File Containing Formulas Is Extremely Slow

Dec 27, 2011

We have an automatic process that opens a template excel file, writes rows of data, and returns the file to the user. This process is usually fast, however I was recently asked to add a summary page with some Excel formulas to one of the templates, and now the process takes forever.

It successfully runs with about 5 records after a few minutes, however this week's record set is almost 400 rows and the longest I've let it run is about half an hour before cancelling it. Without the formulas, it only takes a few seconds to run.

Is there any known issues with writing rows to an Excel file that contains formulas? Or is there a way to tell Excel not to evaluate formulas until the file is opened by a user?

The formulas on the summary Sheet are these:

' Returns count of cells in column where data = Y
=COUNTIF(Sheet1!J15:Sheet1!J10000, "Y")
=COUNTIF(Sheet1!F15:Sheet1!F10000, "Y")

When I execute the code, the routine only receives one block of the data. Read And Evaluate Data From NetworkStream?

Apr 18, 2011

I have a device that is continuously sending text over a TCP port and I want to write a VB.net application that will read and evaluate this data. Each line of text that arrives over the port can be of varying length and each value in the line is separated by a comma. I need to separate out these values in order to take various actions based on their contents.

The following code appears to read the NetworkStream fine but when I try to read the data into an array and output one field into a text file the code is only catching a few lines of the high number coming through the port.[code]....

Streamwriter Write Too Slow?

Jul 26, 2010

I'm trying to write a CSV file with multiple fields. The data to be written is stored in a list(of string()). Using VB Filewriter.Write for each field, the process is real slow. Isn't there a way to format the data first and use Writeline once for each instance in the data store? Unfortunately, when I created a string with all the fields concatenated and separated by commas, the Writeline inserted quotes around the whole string. How do I prevent this behavior?

.net - Get Length Of Data Sent Over Network To TCPlistener/networkstream?

Jan 8, 2010

It seems the most obvious thing, but I just can't work out how to get the length of bytes sent over a network using a TCPClient and TCPListener? This is my code so far:

'Must listen on correct port- must be same as port client wants to connect on.
Const portNumber As Integer = 9999
Dim tcpListener As New TcpListener(IPAddress.Parse("192.168.2.7"), portNumber)

[Code]...

I need to get the length of the networkstream to set the size of the array of bytes I'm going to read the data into. But the networkStream.length is unsupported and does not work and throws an Notsupportedexception.

The only other way I can think of is to send the size of the data before sending the data, but this seems the long way round.

Use The .NET NetworkStream And TcpClient To Connect To A Remote IP And Wait For Data?

Oct 14, 2011

I am struggling a lot with this code I am trying to get to work. I have successfully made a connection with the TcpClient object to two separate remote machines and transmitted data to them. Essentially, I'm trying to connect to Machine 1 on port 80 and send a GET request. Once I send the request I want to keep the connection alive so that the software on the other side can send me data when it is ready. How do I keep the connection open and read data in each time it is made available in the stream? I have tried and tried using NetworkStream.Read and BeginRead to no avail. The closest I have come was sleeping my thread every 30 seconds and then doing another GET request which is not needed. Here is the current code I have for reading from the stream. I know I need a loop in here somewhere:Note: RemoteSocket is my TcpClient object that is connected by this point

Dim serverStream As NetworkStream = RemoteSocket.GetStream()
rqst = "GET /Control/Clip_Forwarding_Stream?CameraName=" & URL_Encode(Name) & " HTTP/1.0" & vbCrLf & vbCrLf

Writing Back To A Delimited Text File

Feb 16, 2012

I am new to the VB Forums. I searched the forums for an answer, but could not find one that exactly fit my issue. I apologize if I missed it. What I am doing is I'm pulling strings of text from a backslash-delimited text file and throwing it into a (Of String, Array) dictionary. This info is then displayed, added to, removed from, through the use of the form. Changes to the entries (new, old, or otherwise) then need to be written back in the same delimited format to the text file.

VS 2008 Serial Data - Make Sure The Correct Data Is Received?

Jun 28, 2009

I am using Visual Basic express to create a serial interface to a multi-room audio controller. I have started by creating a form that can connect to the controller and I can receive data from the Controller and display Zone status, volume etc in corresponding texts box thaks to help from Stanav and Tassa in my previous thread.

My next problem is to do with receiving lots of data from the serial port and my application getting out of sync. This is mainly caused by turning the volum control as each time it is turned a little bit the controller sends out the new status of the Zone being effected

eg
****Turning Volume knob on Zone 1***
Status returned from Controller:
#Z01PWRON,SRC3,VOL05<CR>

Sorting Received Data From Serial?

Apr 7, 2012

I am constantly receiving 2 lines of data via my serial port, example:

GPRMC, 151243.000 , A, 3723.2475, N, 10354.0208,E,1.26, 290.95, 9.0,,,A*67
GPGGA, 151244.000, 0122.4098, N, 10354.0212, E, 1, 04, 2.1, 71.4, M, 4.3, M,,0000*5F

Apart from the starting 5 alphabets which is the message ID, the other numbers are constantly changing every second. I wish to pick out specific values from these GPRMC and GPGGA and constantly update their respective text boxes, how do I go about doing that?

The 4th, 6th & 8th values of the GPRMC message (in this case '3723.2475' 10354.0208' and '1.26')The 10th value of the GPGGA message (in this case that value is '71.4')
