Dec 3, 2008I have an application that monitors a set of opc boolean tags.When a tag changes from false to true (triggered), the application is supposed to query the database for data recording during a specific time period.I had the app done or so i thought until i realized that the background worker that i dimension to do the query is not firing the runworker completed event.at the start of the app, I create a new class for each trigger config in an xml file. Each trigger class has its own opc monitor and handle specific for that one boolean tag.If a tag changes to true a NEW instance of the query class is created.A new background worker instance is dimensioned to do the actual work.(this because there is a pre trigger query and a post trigger query which could be up to 24 hrs after the event has been "triggered" to true and the bg worker will wait until the required amount of time has completed before doing the post query).When the bg worker has completed, it should dispose of itself and all its managed resources.
The very first tag that changes to true will function as expected but when it is complete the RunWorkerCompleted will not fire. Everyone there after will operate as expected but not the very first one.I couldnt figure out why so I started commenting out some code.If I remove the line to create a new oracle connection, it works. VS 2008 - Program Running Slow With Background Image
Feb 4, 2010I think it's because I have a background image. For example when I maximize the program it lags. I mean big software companies have programs that have more pixel images and are much more colorful then my program is but never lag why. AVG has nice look but the program never lag. But the code runs fine so that is a good thing. How can I stop the lag with background image?

Apr 13, 2012I am building a simple proxy in server vb.NET and so far it has been successful, but then whenever i receive data from the internet and write it back to my browser's network stream using NetworkStream.Write the received data tends to come up slowly to my browser due to reasons i do not know of. But when I chain my application to another Proxy/listener on my local computer (e.g Privoxy), data seems to come up very fast to my browser. If anyone has an answer to this I would really love to know.btw here is the part of my code {subroutine} that receives data and forwards to my browser.

Jan 2, 2012I'm currently developing a chess program. In my program, the problem I'm currently having is the slow drawing of the initial board. Here's part of my _gameGraph.DrawImage(MyResources.Marble_White, New Rectangle(x, y, 70, 70)) The code here draws the black & white squares using a for/next loop. I later use another for/next loop on the array holding the piece values, which uses the same type of function to draw the pieces on top of the squares. Both the pieces and the squares are .PNG images.

Slow IDE Performance - Esp. Selecting Image For Button?
Aug 6, 2010while using VS 2008 SP1 for VB WinForm apps (on Win 7 Ultimate machine),I find that while the performance of VS 2008 is on the slow side, it is generally tolerable except for one thing: when selecting an image for a button, the "Select Resource" dialog will come up, and I choose "local resource", then Import. After navigating to the appropriate folder and selecting the desired image,I will almost always get the "hourglass" (now the blue whirly thing),and only after several seconds will the operation complete(i.e. the "Select Resource" dialog will show the image I selected,and then I can close it and be on my merry way). Typically while the whirly thing is going, the dialog box title will say "Select Resource (Not Responding)". Also on some occasions during the wait period, the Select Resource dialog will hide, and I will have to click the VS icon in the taskbar to make it reappear so the operation can complete.

Jul 15, 2009I have a weird bug with webclient. I made an app a while ago which uses webclient to download a small thumbnail image.. and I rememeber when I first made it, the first time webclient was used to download the image it always took 15 sec+ to download it, but after the first it always downloaded quickly (in like 1 sec) .. but then the problem went away for me and it always downloaded fine.but now someone else who uses my app is having the slow image download problem apparently around 50% of the time it downloads the thumbnail images. so does anyone know what might be causing this? As I said, I don't have the problem any more on my comp - but I don't know why :s

May 25, 2009I have already posted this question on the "reporting services" forum and received no responses, so i thought i'd give it a try here.
SQL server 2005 SP3, VS 2005, vb.net, RV control.
When i add a background image to the page header, body and page footer, The rendering takes about one second per page. Without the background images, it renders about 25-50 pages per second. My report is a statement print report and has about 1500 pages.
Since it is the same image on each page, why does the server need to send that image over and over again to the report viewer control?
In vb.net i have the Report Viewer control and i bring up a report in normal viewing mode. when i click on the print layout mode, or have that mode set up to be the default mode, It takes forever when i have a background image and virtually no time for the same report without the images. The images are gifs about 5 or 6k each. I have chosen to embed the image into the report.
How do i optimize the usage of background images so they do not interfere with the rendering speed? Or at least minimalize the slowdown.
[EDIT:] I have discovered that if i render it to PDF and open the PDF and page through the report, it is much much faster. In other words if i choose to render to 'printlayout', it is say 25 times slower than when i render it to default, and about 20 times slower then if i render it to PDF. And the PDF contains exact rendering for all pages, exactly the same rendering as the print layout mode generates.
Program Gets Slow Down Over Time
Nov 5, 2010I have a program that after clicking start, starts looping. Most of the code is in the "start" button event, and the timer keeps calling it every second. Basically the program reads a line from the serial port, opens and reads a couple text files, opens and writes a couple text files, sends a string out the serial port, then repeats.
After about 24 hours of running, the computer and this program get very slow. Screen updates get really slow and clicking on buttons takes the program several seconds to respond. The actual loop itself slows too, I think, but not much. Restart the program and everything is happy again. What would be the best way to go about troubleshooting this? [Code]
Encryption / Decryption Program - Slow Process
Jul 18, 2010I was board making web browsers and OS so, I tried making an Encryption/Decryption program. I surfed the net and found a source code. But, after doing everything, I debug it, click the encrypt btn and nothing happens. I though the encrypting is a slow process. The thing is the process should be immediate cause I downloaded this web browser called 'Areo Pack'. It comes with a few other program and one of them in an Encryption/Decryption program. I tried it and it was done in a few seconds. I tried opening the encrypted file with notepad and I see a text file with Chinese, Japaneses, Korean, etc.

Map The Location Of All The Back Pixels In An Image?
Jun 9, 2011I need to map the location of all the back pixels in an image into some kind of structure. The program later uses the structure to select a random pixel location. It then removes the location, to prevent it being used again. The problem is, there is a huge number of black pixels (close to 40,000) so an ordinary array takes forever to search for and eliminate the "used" pixels. Is there some other "Faster" data structure?

Retrieving Processor Current Speed Makes Program Run Slow?
Jun 5, 2012I am trying to create a program in Visual Basic which will measure the performance of the CPU with every core, one at a time. In this program, I decided to place a couple of text boxes that display the processor speed and the actual processor speed. I need to get the actual processor speed to update and I have tried doing this already using a timer set to tick every second. However, when I load the program it runs really slowly and prevents me form doing anything within the program, including trying to close it down, and all it does is updates the text box every second. I have looked in task manager to find out how much CPU the program is using and it shows that my program is using 0 - 3% CPU.

Jan 18, 2009I have a code for a tic-tac-toe game, where there's basically 3 private subs. There's a sub called "userturn" that handles the button clicks on the board. The next sub is "compturn" which controls where the computer moves. The last one is "checkforwin" which does what it says.
Here's my problem:
At the end of the "userturn" sub, I have a line that says, "compturn()" to tell it to go to the compturn sub. That sub is executed correctly, but when I try to add the line, "userturn()" to go back to the userturn sub, I get this error[code]...
