View 6 RepliesI have been having a wonderful Sunday trying to figure out Stored Procedures, created via vb.net and input into Sql Server 2008.
I've created a Stored Procedure... That I pass an Integer in a parameter, I want to get back a String.
Here's the vb.net Stored Procedure Code:

Microsoft.SqlServer.Server

I have a SSIS package that just makes a folder (Child package) and i have a second package (parent) that calls the first package using a script task and the code is like [code]I want to pass the XML file as a parameter ,what the XML file does is that it has Variable for a folder name, so that if i like to change the folder name (making new folder), I can change it in the XML file and the parent pakage will call the child pakage with the XML file as a parameter.

View 1 RepliesI want to hear some discussion regarding what is the best way to persist program parameter and variable settings from one run of the program to the next. I used to often use the ubiquitous INI type file in VB6 programs but I am aware that these are not formally supported in .Net programs. I also have a major aversion to adding to the already overwhelming bloat of the Windows registry by using that to store values.

I wrote this VB program to be able to throw a device we developed into programming mode where we use an ATMEL Flip installer to upload new firmware. I can program one device after another running the application off of Visual Studio Express 2010 or Visual Studio 2010, but when I go to publish this file and run it on another machine, it becomes unstable and crashes after each upload. On those same computers if I run the raw unpackaged program under Visual Studio Express, the system does not crash, and I can program devices repeatedly.
View 5 RepliesI am trying to run a query an Access db from VB. The general query which I want to run is
SELECT * FROM Patient WHERE Patient.PatientID = ?
or SELECT * FROM Patient WHERE Patient.PatientLname = ?
I tried using an input box which captured the user input and pass that variable to the query, but that failed. Then I read about writing a function and using that, however, I keep getting an error which says Function not defined, but when stepping through the code, it seems to work. Here is my function: [Code]
have you of any ideas in why does my software in vb 2010 still exist in the task manager (process tab), after i closed the program? i noticed it when i want to delete the .exe file.

View 6 RepliesI have a code for a tic-tac-toe game, where there's basically 3 private subs. There's a sub called "userturn" that handles the button clicks on the board. The next sub is "compturn" which controls where the computer moves. The last one is "checkforwin" which does what it says.
Here's my problem:
At the end of the "userturn" sub, I have a line that says, "compturn()" to tell it to go to the compturn sub. That sub is executed correctly, but when I try to add the line, "userturn()" to go back to the userturn sub, I get this error[code]...

View 12 RepliesI build two programs, 1 - bootstrap and 1 - mainprogram
now, mainprogram has 2 constructors, the default and the one which i defined and it accepts an integer the default constructor checks the variable named iscalled a type of integer to have a value of 1 or zero, if its zero then it should shows a message saying "Improper initialization" then exits..
What I mean here is, mainprogram should only run if its called by the bootstrap program.

I am passing a table to some VB.NET code that I want to have converted to a CSV file and sent back to the client for download. And it works! Sort of ... It works sometimes, but at other times, instead of asking me if I want to download the CSV file, it just spews the file to the browser window. [code]...
Is there anyway you can send information back to the original creator of the program? Here is a quick example- I made a little program that gives you general information about your computer, when you click a button it sets the text box to specific information. One of the text boxes gives you the Version of your OS. I would like to know if there is a way to send the information in that text box back to me when someone clicks it and they are connected to the internet. FYI I would tell the person who clicks it before so that I am not stealing information, plus what is there to steal from a simple program I made.

View 9 RepliesI'm trying to create a function that searches up a WebControl's parent-child relationship (basically the opposite of WebControl.FindControl(id as String), but looking for a specific WebControl type).
Example
I have a user control in an ItemTemplate for a GridViewRow. I'm trying to reference the GridViewRow from the user control. The user control may or may not be inside a div or other types of controls, so I don't know exactly how many parent's up to look (i.e. I can't just use userControl.Parent.Parent). I need a function that will find the first GridViewRow that it finds on the way up the parent-child hierarchy.
I am currently working on a program that has several buttons in it lined up. Each button goes to different applications (.exe programs). The program I am making is suppose to be a fullscreen program and won't let you see any of Windows when it's running.
Therefore I want to make a "back" button that always stays on top of any application and when I push it it will take me back to my WindowsForm (startpage of the program).I am also wondering if you can make it so all .exe programs only can run ONCE. So if I press one of the buttons saying "open notepad" I want it to work so it can't open Notepad once again making it two notepads open. Just go back to the first Notepad opened.
I have a program that requires a string. The string is 20 characters long. The string also have to be split into 2 words the first word is 12 characters and the second is 8. If the strings is not 20 characters long I get an error. I wanted to know how can I get the program to start back over and let me enter another 2 more words if the string is not 20 characters long. At the moment after I get the string is not 20 characters long error it continues to read the rest of the program but I want it to stop after an error and let me start over from the beginning.

I don't know what happened. The richtext box is supposed to disaply the attack monster description, and then it's name, the amount of damage it does. I had it so that I could attack, be attacked, and display damage, and attack discription of both player and monster. when I opened my project to work on it again, hardly anything was working right.[code]
