I am trying to use the send keys function to send text to another program.I ahve gotten it al working well, except for using () as I know sendkeys doesnt like these.I have tried using the Replace function in several places in my code to replace the ( with {(} and {+0} etc, with various other options tried. But when I run the program, it seems to skip this out completly and leaves them in the string as (, and therefore it errors and wont run. When I step through it, it goes through the function but doesnt alter the strng as it should. This is the code to send the string and my attempt at making it replace the () in the module
Module TextReplacement Private Declare Function GetAsyncKeyState Lib "user32.dll" (ByVal vKey As Int32) As Short Dim counter As Integer Dim sData() As String
[code]....
The error I get when i try send "Test :)" is: ArgumentExcveption was unhandled "SendKeys string 'Test :)' is not valid"

Im trying to create a program that will be using a shortcut key in displaying a form. But im having problems on how to know if the cursor is on the textbox or datagrid. For example, If I clicked the textbox, and i clicked f1, Customer List Form should appear. No problem with this. I used the following
If txtCustomerName.Focused = True Then If e.KeyData = Keys.F1 Then Form9.ShowDialog() End If End If
But when I Clicked the cell on the datagrid, and click F1, Product List Form should appear. This is my problem, the form is not appearing when i click f1.Here is my
If dgvSalesEntry.Focused = True Then If e.KeyData = Keys.F1 Then Form8.ShowDialog() End If End If
I want to hear some discussion regarding what is the best way to persist program parameter and variable settings from one run of the program to the next. I used to often use the ubiquitous INI type file in VB6 programs but I am aware that these are not formally supported in .Net programs. I also have a major aversion to adding to the already overwhelming bloat of the Windows registry by using that to store values.
I'm trying to extract the icon from a shortcut (lnk file), but I end up with the shortcut symbol in the lower-left hand corner of the image. How can I extract a shortcut's icon without this symbol?

I'm trying to create a shortcut for my program that sends the user to the world map of a website with the press of a button, but it isn't working. Here's my code:

I am trying to figure out how VB can focus a specific program and then send commands to the program only. The focus would only be for the commands and would not make the program you are currently in lose focus. Simply, what it is controlling is a Windows Application called GOM Player. I use it to study my material for school. I plays movies in it and dont have to click out of the application I am working in to pause, play or rewind. The keypad and the company who make it actually have it built into iTunes and it does exactly what I want GOM Player to do.
The reason I dont just use iTunes is because I cant get my video files to play in iTunes. After pulling teeth with the manufacture I finally to tell me that the iTunes functionality is accessible via plugins built into iTunes. So trying to mimic what is being done there does not help. I believe that a knowledgeable VB programmer could answer my question in seconds, but having some experience with coding and programing I know it also could be a lot more than what I think. [URL]
The question is: What is way that VB can send the key for the macro only to the GOM Player Application even if it is not focused or even If it is minimized.
I build two programs, 1 - bootstrap and 1 - mainprogram
now, mainprogram has 2 constructors, the default and the one which i defined and it accepts an integer the default constructor checks the variable named iscalled a type of integer to have a value of 1 or zero, if its zero then it should shows a message saying "Improper initialization" then exits..
What I mean here is, mainprogram should only run if its called by the bootstrap program.

I'm trying to create a function that searches up a WebControl's parent-child relationship (basically the opposite of WebControl.FindControl(id as String), but looking for a specific WebControl type).
Example
I have a user control in an ItemTemplate for a GridViewRow. I'm trying to reference the GridViewRow from the user control. The user control may or may not be inside a div or other types of controls, so I don't know exactly how many parent's up to look (i.e. I can't just use userControl.Parent.Parent). I need a function that will find the first GridViewRow that it finds on the way up the parent-child hierarchy.
I cannot find a way to make a program that I write make a shortcut in the start menu for all users. My final goal is to make an MSI and deploy it in group policy to all users on a computers OU. Is this possible?
