Get The Program To Start Back Over And Enter Another 2 More Words If The String Is Not 20 Characters Long
Sep 27, 2009
I have a program that requires a string. The string is 20 characters long. The string also have to be split into 2 words the first word is 12 characters and the second is 8. If the strings is not 20 characters long I get an error. I wanted to know how can I get the program to start back over and let me enter another 2 more words if the string is not 20 characters long. At the moment after I get the string is not 20 characters long error it continues to read the rest of the program but I want it to stop after an error and let me start over from the beginning.
I am trying to strip the first 75 characters from various strings (sentences / phrases) and it seems right but I need to ensure that the now words are truncated in the process. Meaning that if the 75 character is part of a word it needs to fall back to the beginning of the word or nearest space..
I thought of stripping the entire string into separate words and then counting the length of combining the words and stopping when I reach the target but what do I do in the case when it is not a valid sentence just a bunch of characters jammed together. I thought of using grammar parsing tool libraries and parsing into tokens etc but that seems to over complicated.
if text.length() > 75 then ctext = text.remove(text.length, 75) & "..." endif
I put elipses at the end but using the above I also get the error:
I nedd some help in generating a random alph-numeric password for a form that I building. The form should suggest a password that 18 characters long. The user would either agree to this password or enter their own password.[code]When I use this I get a two digit number.
I have an HTML string and in that string are certain variables that I need to replace with database values. The variable names are dynamic but all begin with the characters "@@" (just two ampersands, no quotes). Is there a way to get all the words in a string that start with "@@"? I'm assuming you would use regular expressions, but not sure how to begin.
I have a situation where a user can enter just about anything they want into a text box.Whatever they enter in the box, I need to split the string into an array of strings where each item is one word. For example, if the user enters All State Insurance, I split that into a string array:
I have a task to resolve, it is regading extracting characters from a long string to the console, the extracted text shall be reformatted and saved into a CSV file. The string comes out of a database.
It looks something like: UNH+RAM6957+ORDERS:D:96A:UN:EGC103'BGM+38G::ZEW+REQEST6957+9'DTM+Z05:0:805'DTM+137:20100930154
The values are seperated by '.I can query the database and display the string on the console, but now I need to extract the Keyword 'ORDERS' for example, and lets say it's following 5 Characters. So the output should look like: ORDERS:D:96A then I need to extract the keyword 'BGM' and its following five characters so the output should look like: BGM+38G:After extracting all the keywords, the result should be comma seperated and look like:
ORDERS:D:96A,BGM+38G: it should be saved into a CSV file automatically.
I tried already:
'Lookup for containing KeyWords Dim FoundPosition1 = p_EDI.Contains("ORDERS") Console.WriteLine(FoundPosition1)
Which gives the starting position of the Keyword.I tried to trim the whole thing around the keyword "DTM". The EDI variable holds the entire string from the Database:
Dim FoundPosition2 = EDI FoundPosition2 = Trim(Mid(EDI, InStr(EDI, "DTM"))) Console.WriteLine(FoundPosition2)
I'm making a program and was wondering if someone could please help me (its a console app) to display words from a string that the user has inputted starting with certain characters?
I need to be able to strip the following prefixes from product codes as you see I have included a simple query while yes the below shows me the cm im not wanting i cant use replace as it code replace any instance of cm the prefixes are held in the supplire table cross refer with the products table
prefixes are not always two chrachters for example can be TOW
SELECT * , left(prod.productcode, LEN(sup.prefix)) AS MyTrimmedColumn FROM MSLStore1_Products prod ,supplier sup WHERE prod.suppid = 9039 AND prod.SgpID = 171
I am trying to enter the following on an excel spread sheet from vb.net:applic.activesheet.cells(1,1)="=server|topic!" & Item & My.computer.keyboard.sendkeys("{CNTRL} {SHIFT}{ENTER} ")The error says: "Expression does not produce a value"I tried even {ENTER} and still the same error.
I am creating a WPF Application that uses Fluent library.
On my computer with Windows 7, 2GB RAM and AMD Triple Core processor, after double clicking on the program icon, The Splash image shows after about 1-2 seconds.
But on my brother's old computer with Windows XP, 512MB RAM and Intel Celeron 2.0 GHz Processor (Single core), after double clicking on the program icon, First, a process called PresentationFontCache.exe runs and it uses almost 100% of CPU for some seconds. And Total time is needed for displaying the initial Splash image is almost 30 seconds (or more).
I don't want that some users have to wait 30 seconds for displaying splash image and about 7-8 seconds for loading application. (my application load process takes 7-8 seconds)
I have a string of characters, but I would like to have a string of hexdecimal characters where the hexadecimal characters are converted by turning the original characters into integers and then those integers into hexadecimal characters. How do I do that?
My homework assignment is to create a project where a user enters a password that must be at least 3 characters long with at least 1 number and 1 alphabet character. After that the password has to be encrypted so that vowels become X, numbers Z, and it reverses. For example, a password of CS2301 would be ZZZZSC. There's supposed to be Loops to extract 1 number/letter at a time and search for them in the string to validate, and I don't know what to do. The form itself has a Text Box to enter a password and a label to display the new one, and a Go button.
I wrote an app in Visual Studio and is about 20k+ lines, but I don't know why it takes so long to start up. I have a splash screen just to test it to see if the program is working, and it is, but I have to wait for so long for the app to actually get to the start up form. A splash screen for this app isn't ideal, but was only using a splash screen for test purposes.
I am trying to figure out how to count the words that start with a vowel and also count the words that start with a consonant. I have tried several different ways on trying to do this but no luck. I have worked on this for a couple days already. Very frustrated I need some assistance with this issue
how to enter a data that i enter in textbox to a datagridview... for example i enter in the textbox is round and when i click add it will go to database... im using ms access database
I am working on a VB.Net Windows application. I am trying to use MaskedTextBox. My mask is 999999, RightToLeft is true, TextAlign is right. It is not letting me enter characters from the right. It is entering them from the left. When I type 1234 and save I get 1234____ when I expect to get ____1234.
Not sure if too many people know this, but the following line will cause an error:
GroupName.Substring(0, 3) = "jt_"
....if the length of GroupName is less than 3 characters. I always thought it would simply return whatever characters in GroupName, but no, it errors. I must be thinking of the old VB6 days. So, I now have to change the code to:
If (GroupName.Length > 2) Then If (GroupName.Substring(0, 3) = "jt_") Then
Note that the two comparisons need to be on separate lines. If they are on the same line, such as:
If (GroupName.Length > 2) and (GroupName.Substring(0, 3) = "jt_") Then then the code will still fail as the length command is executed at the same time as the substring command- which will cause the error when the GroupName length is less than 3.Just thought that those of us not aware of this should be!
Is it possible to open another app without losing focus of the current foreground app? I have a program that will open another app and test something on it then close it, and reopen it again and repeat. Can this be all done in the back while i am typing away on another app in the foreground without getting interrupted by the new app opening and changing focus?
i dont want the new app open minimized or anything, just quietly open in the background.
I tried using process startinfo.windowstyle and that doesnt help much.
In reading various answers regarding "masked TextBox Control, am I to assume that the masked textBox control uses a mask to determine what characters the user can enter into the control?
I've got a function api_request which takes API method as an argument, and returns XMLTextReader. Shared Function api_request(method As String) As XmlTextReader request_text = method & ".xml" url = "[URL]" & request_text & "&access_token=" & token Return New XmlTextReader(url) End Function
I call this function from different places to make request to site API and depending on the method results are parsed very differently. So in each method I have something like this: Dim s As Xml.XmlReader = api_request("users.get") While s.Read If s.NodeType = XmlNodeType.Element Then If s.Name = "user" Then [Code] .....
As you may see, I have the code ElseIf s.Name = "error" Then error_handler(s, "user.get"). This is because when error happens, server always returns something like this: <error> <error_code>4</error_code> <error_msg>Incorrect signature</error_msg> </error>
This is parsed in error_handler Sub, and depending on the error following actions are chosen. This code works, but I have to check if I encounter error like that ElseIf s.Name = "error" every time, though all the methods call the api_request function. Is it possible to check for error in api_request function before returning the Reader? The problem is if I start reading xml there, and there isn't an error, I can't anyhow position the Reader to the start.
We've set code to fire certain valves on the timer but once it gets to the last valve (checkbox) I'm not sure how to reset the timer to start back at zero so that it refires the sequence.
Here's the code:
Private Sub Timer1_Tick(ByVal sender As System.Object, _ ByVal e As System.EventArgs) _ Handles Timer1.Tick
I want to put a persons National Insurance Number into a label but I want to put *** in place of the first 5 characters and then display the last 3 characters as normally.
Assuming that I have a Windows Forms textbox and want to reduce the maximum amount of characters that can be allowed in via user entry, how would I do that?
I want to create a program that checks the characters of the string "George123" . If a number is found in the string then a message box will pop up. Here is where the problem lies. I created a for loop that inspects each character of the string George123 and when it reaches the number 123 the message box pops up. The only problem with the message box is that it appears 3 times as there are three numbers in the string. So my question is how do i exit a for loop right after the first number is found in the string.
Code: Dim onecharacter As Char Dim Enter As String
I'm just starting to use vb .net (using 2008 express edition) and I want to make a menu for my program that will be like a sidebar that when you click one of the options, a few sub-options will fold out that will push the main options below downwards - and then the sub-options will disappear and the options will go back into place when something else is selected.I am not sure exactly where to start in terms of making those options get pushed down/come back up..
