I am getting the above error in my code. I've searched the net (on this site and others) for a solution to this problem and it seems that its either something to do with a field name being a reserved name ie. Date, Time etc.... or its missing (') or (") in the SQL command. ive tried both these solutions to no avail.

i am making a simple testing application within visual studio 2010, thought im gonna be direct. in ms.acces i made a database with a few tables, this one is about the table : leden. the error indicates that i simply do not have enough values to insert into the table and i think it has to do with the ID(autincrement in acces)

I have a problem with a sql query. Through the query I am trying to search database for any occurrences of string (can be anything) in a column using the SQL LIKE command. The problem is that it works fine for most of the strings say john, jim, ji"m , but does not work when i include the following characters which are ( ' , { , } , and a single quotation mark). MYSQL query takes care of these special cases by putting them in [] block whenever user enters them .But i am getting the following error when i go to query the database using the GetSelectCommand() in VB.NET
Exception Details: System.ApplicationException: Number of values provided must be equal to the number of placeholders in query.I have checked the query over and over again .. but its fine .My database server is Sql Server 2008.So my application throws the exception in this command:
Using reader As MustDisposeDataReader = _
pmSystem.DatabaseManager.GetSelectCommand(selectStatementBuilder.ToString(), New Object() {})
Where MustDisposeDataReader is an instance of a class in an internally developed library, which inherits from System.Object. pmSystem is an instance of the class PlanManagerSystem which implements the commandlayer. GetSelectCommand() takes the select command
I have users check off lab facilities in a UI. I want to use linq to fetch corresponding records for all of the labs that they have checked off. Basically,
Dim myRecs = (From l As EpiData In myDataContext.EPIDatas Where l.facility= _
one of the checked labs
So basically, I need to write a linq query where the "strings" to match are determined at runtime. Is there any way to do this easily? I know that there is a library out there called dynamic LINQ, but (1) it's in C# and I'm writing in VB (2) I'm really just looking for a single, simple solution for this single case.
Right now I am using this code on client side.

The values for the hidden fields are already set. I want these value to open a window, in which the fields will be already filled using the values passed by this page. This code is working fine on Internet Explorer, but not on other browsers. Moreover, when I don't pass any value and just open the required window, it works on all browsers.
I have the following table

if I have an sql as follows with an external(from a list box) selected event & location as follows: Select * From Table Where Subject ='103' or InStr(Subject, '-103-') or mid(Subject,1,len(103)+1)='103-' or mid(Subject,len(Subject)-len(103),len(103)+1)='-103' and Event = 'T178' and Location = 'Yennora' I get more than one record, I should get only record 13
I had been using this way for while, and it seems it work fine with char and numbers.
Dim MyVar1 as String = "Hello"
Dim MyVar2 as Integer = 1
Dim MySQL = "Select * from table where field1 = '<field1>' and Field2 = <field2>"
MySQL = MySQL.Replace("<field1>",MyVar1).Replace("<field2>",MyVar2)
msgbox(MySQL)
But, when I have to deal with blob field, where I store "wav file" for example, I had to read it as array of bytes, and the only way I find to insert the array of bytes in my query string is by using the command.AddParameter
Dim myfile As System.IO.FileStream = System.IO.File.OpenRead("full_wav_file_path")
Dim myArray(myfile.Length) As Byte
myfile.Read(myArray, 0, (myfile.Length))
[Code] .....
Is there another way to insert it without addParameter?
I have a query which I test and work fine in Access[code]...
When I try it, it comes up with an error: "Undefined function 'Nz' in expression.
I have a LINQ query:
VB
Dim Db = New MyDataContext
Dim Qry = From cust in Db.Customers
Select cust.ID, cust.Name
And I want to pass it to a function to filter it, like this:
VB
FilterAnyQuery(Qry, cust.ID) ' WHERE "cust.ID" CAN BE ANY FIELD
The Sub should be of this kind:
VB
Sub FilterAnyQuery(ByVal AnyQry As iQueryable, AnyField as ???)
AnyQry = AnyQry.Where(AnyField = "somevalue")
End Sub
How can I pass "AnyField" to the Sub and make the LINQ "Where" clause work?
i want a button to perform a function of checking the last digit number in a field of a table in and add a digit to it and display it in a textbox.

View 1 RepliesI have a problem with the Validation of a Integer-Field in my application.Its an Access DB on a Windows Form.I implemented the validation in DataSet.vb using an ErrorProvider on my Form.The field name is FNr and should not accept duplicate numbers.If the field value is changed, a query checks if the number already exists in the Datatable and if so it sets the error on that field.If the user tries to change the field to a number which is a duplicate I want to cancel the input back to the original number. This works but the
Error message is still shown by the ErrorProvider.The code is partially in DataSet.vb and in Form.vb

How to sum the number value(textbox) to my database field ?
the red section doesn't sum the value(textbox) to my data field.[code]...
Probably a simple question for most of you. I'm putting members of a group into a SQL Database so we can better manage attendance and 'points' that they earn for doing work. I've written the program in VB and have the SQL server running fine. However, I have created a separate table to handle the points and have marked the relationship between the table - the column is named 'PointID', and should be unique for each person. When I add a new user to the database, I want it to automatically assign a value to that without me having to do anything extra beyond pressing save. From this PointID, it should identify the user and it will bring up the person's points.
View 12 Repliesi have 2 fields in the database (sql server 08)

I created a code that inserts a number into a row every time someone submits a form.I am able to read the data back to the form using a loop.My confusion is I would like to get the highest number from the data field(column)Lets say the Field(column) has five numbers from 1 to 5.How do I get the highest number?I was looking at using a loop to go through the field and bring out the highest number, but should I use an array?

What i am trying to do is to get the form to fill the db witha new blank record, assign the auto number and then display that number with the blank record info in my form. I will be making it so that the data must be changed before saving so that the form will not be blank save for when it is loaded.

I'm using ms access 03 to fill a datagridview no problem. I have 4 fields(id, first, last, points), but I just want to fill one in a combobox I have. Here is what I'm using to fill the datagridview:

Dim sql As String = "Select first,last,points from student"
Dim oledbAdapter As OleDbDataAdapter

How could I get a combobox to just display just one field, like idk if I'm explaining myself correctly, like a SQL statement look like this:
Dim sql As String = "Select first from student" but just for my combobox.

View 2 RepliesI got a Mysql sql database for my project. The id field is set as auto increment, which seems to function correctly. But on the form in my text field and datagrid i see a negative number, while in the database its a postitive number. I do not really plan to use the id field right now, but when i do it might cause some problems.
Anybody know why it would show as a negative number on the form(textbox/gridview) and as a positive in the actual database?
