Object Library Invalid Or Contains References To Object Definitions That Could Not Be Found

May 24, 2009

I get an error while trying to install a third party Excel add-in [Thomson One Analytics]. Error: "Compile error in hidden module: Main" Microsoft Excel 2003..But when I had the Addin unlocked.I noticed that it was getting stuck at a specific line in the MAIN module of the Addin package and the debugger throws a compile error message saying that: "Object library Invalid or contains references to object definitions that could not be found". Earlier when I had this issue,I made another user login to the PC and we were able to use the add-in successfully. But this time even a different user with Admin Rights was not able to use it. [code]

Tried to install and run the Addin on the same computer by a different user having admin rights, no go.Made sure that he references for the add-in in the VBA editor are correct, by comparing them with a working computer, no go Re-installed "Service Pack 6 for Visual Basic 6.0: Run-Time Redistribution Pack (vbrun60sp6.exe)", no go. Ran repairs on Excel, no go Re-installed Excel, no go

List Of T Find Date Or Other Property In A Object In The List - Then Return Found Object?

Sep 3, 2009

After reading all the examples for list of T exists and Find and find first, none show how to handle multi-property objects. Below is bare bones example maybe someone could flesh out to show how this should be done.

Public Class Form1
Private Sub Button1_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button1.Click
Dim DatePriceList As New List(Of DateAndPrice)
DatePriceList.Add(New DateAndPrice(Date.Parse("1/1/2000"), 10.12))
DatePriceList.Add(New DateAndPrice(Date.Parse("1/2/2000"), 11.12))

Asp.net - Object References And Cache

May 11, 2011

I have a function GetAllProducts() which fetches all products from a database and stores it in the cache for future requests. This works fine, but if I then call the function e.g. ProductSearchResults = GetAllProducts(), and then modify ProductSearchResults variable, this also modifies the cache, which is very important this never happens, as the cache affects the whole website.

I understand this is because both ProductSearchResults and the cache now have the same reference, but how do I solve the problem? Is there something that I can put in GetAllProducts() to ensure the cache always uses its own value?

Object References And Re-assignment In .net

Nov 17, 2010

Maybe this is a n00bish question, but I'm used to c++'s pointers and references and this is confusing me a bit. Let's say I have the following scenario in a VB.net application:

[Code]...

The situation is this: I have a collection of objects, and during execution of the program, any of them can be fetched from the collection to be used/edited by another part of the program. Now obviously if I edit the data inside the object it is allright, but what if I want to replace the object, as I did above at line 5? I would change only the local reference (y) but not the object inside the collection!

Is there a way around this? How can I take with me a "reference to the object's reference", instead of just a reference, so if I reassign it it will also reassign the one in the collection? I hope I'm making myself clear, unfortunately english is not my native language, to be clear: in c++ this would be easy using a pointer to a pointer, or passing a pointer to the object always by reference, so calling new or reassignment on it would change the original pointer itself)

Will WCF Allow To Use Object References Across Boundaries On Objects

Apr 20, 2010

So I've created a series of objects that interact with a piece of hardware over a serial port. There is a thread running monitoring the serial port, and if the state of the hardware changes it updates properties in my objects. I'm using observable collections, and INotifyPropertyChanged.

I've built a UI in WPF and it works great, showing me real time updating when the hardware changes and allows me to send changes to the hardware as well by changing these properties using bindings.

What I'm hoping is that I can run the UI on a different machine than what the hardware is hooked up to without a lot of wiring up of events. Possibly even allow multiple UI's to connect to the same service and interact with this hardware.

So far I understand I'm going to need to create a WCF service. I'm trying to figure out if I'll be able to pass a reference to an object created at the service to the client leaving events intact. So that the UI will really just be bound to a remote object.

Am I moving the right direction with WCF?

Also I see tons of examples for WCF in C#, are there any good practical use examples in VB that might be along the lines of what I'm trying to do?

C# - Does The CLR Garbage Collection Methodology Mean It's Safe To Throw Circular Object References Around

Feb 3, 2010

I have a theory that the CLR garbage collection mechanism means that I can get away with circular references in my object hierarchy without creating deadlocks for teardown and garbage collection. Is this a safe assumption to make? (Target language VB.NET)

Flattening An Object Hierarchy Using A Shim Class - Initializing Derived Object Properties From The Base Object?

Jul 10, 2010

I am somewhat new to object oriented programming and am attempting to flatten a Linq object hierarchy by using a shim class.how to initalize a derived class with property values from a base class?I have two objects, a base object with about 100 properties, and a derived object which inherits from the base object and adds a few additional properties beyond those of the base object. My simple constructor creates the derived object, but I am looking for a way to initialize the derived object properties with values from the base object.Right now I am using reflection to iterate over the properties individually and I suspect there may be a better way. The following example shows my shim class constructor for the derived class, and two properties:

newProperty1 - a new string property of the derived class

flattenedProperty2 - a new string property of the derived class, copied from a 2nd-level object of the base class

Code example:

Public Class derivedObj
Inherits baseObj
Private _newProperty1 As String[code].......

Is this the correct constructor approach to flatten the object hierarchy using a shim class? My second question relates to initialization of properties in the derived class. The constructor above creates the derived object, but what is the best way to initialize the derived object properties with values from the base object? The following code uses reflection to iterate over the properties individually, but I suspect there may be a better way.

Code example:

' property names are in the string array fieldNames

'baseObjQuery is an ienumerable of baseObj

'derivedObjList is a list of derivedObj[code].....

Is there a simple way to initialize values for the properties in the derived object based upon the values of the common properties in the base object?

[2008] Object Ref Not Set When Row Not Found - EXECUTESCALAR

Feb 22, 2009

I've got this

Public Function VendorIdOf(ByVal SimpleId As String) As String
Dim result As String = Nothing
Using drc As New SqlCommand("Select VendorId From Vendor_T Where SimpleId = @SimpleId", _connection)

[Code]....

"Object reference not set to an instance of an object."
Why is that? I would expect a null value to be returned if the row does not exist.

Also - out of curiosity - how come this can be written two ways?

result = drc.ExecuteScalar().ToString()

or

result = drc.ExecuteScalar.ToString

What's up with those paren's?

Microsoft Excel 14.0 Object Library

Aug 11, 2010

My company is currently in the process of upgrading from Office 2000 to Office 2010. The upgrade won't take place until October, but I am currently testing it on my PC. I have some applications that reference Microsoft Excel 14.0 Object Library VERSION 1.3.0.0 and export DataGridView results to Excel. Since I upgraded my PC to Office 2010, my version of Microsoft Excel 14.0 Object Library was upgraded to 1.7.0.0. Now, Office 2000 users are having issues when trying to export data. They get the following error:"Attempted to read or write protected memory. This is often an indication that other memory is corrupt."I can't debug to find out the issue because I am running Office 2010 and it works perfectly fine for me. Has anyone else encountered this? I think it's happening right around when it starts to save the file.[code]

LINQ Return Single Type Of Object Invalid Cast

Jun 29, 2010

Ok, just needing a 2nd set of eyes looking at this to make sure the error isn't something else other than my LINQ code here. Here's the function class itself:

Public Function GetJacketByPolicyID(ByVal jacketID As Int32) As tblPolicy
Dim db As New DEVDataContext()
Dim j As tblPolicy = db.tblPolicies.Single(Function(p) p.policyNumber = jacketID)
Return j
End Function

and here is the code which calls this class function in the web control form itself:

Dim p As tblPolicy
Dim j As New Jackets()
p = j.GetJacketByPolicyID(3000050)

For some reason it's flagging the 2nd line in the GetJacketByPolicyID function saying the specified cast is not valid. So I'm guessing it's something I'm doing wrong. I'm sure the tblPolicy/tblPolicies class works right since I can create a new instance of a tblPolicy and set a few variables by hand and return it, so that's not it. I've also checked the datarow I'm fetching and there's no null values in the record, so that shouldn't be it either.
