Oracle Update: SQL Command Not Properly Ended?

May 7, 2012

I have the following code in a VB .NET application. I am trying to update columns in an Oracle table with data with SQL data. When I run the application, I get (ORA-00933: SQL command not properly ended) for the 'or_cmd_3.ExecuteNonQuery()' line.

If I strip out the code and run it in TOAD or SQL Developer, replacing the temp varialve with some bogus data it updates fine. What am I missing?

ElseIf (oracle_summary_temp = ueio_tmpALM_Summary) And (oracle_request_ID_temp = ueio_tmpALM_ID) And added_to_alm = "1" AndAlso ({"Deferred", "Rejected", "Closed"}.Contains(ueio_tmpALM_Status)) Then
Dim update_oracle As String = Nothing

DB/Reporting :: .Net/Oracle Application Best Design When Building Sql Command Parameters

Oct 2, 2009

Currently working on a web-service with Oracle10g as back-end. Here is my problem.

1. The table I need to populate has 100 columns. I have no control over the design of the table.

2. I wanted to use the "deriveparameters" method of OracleCommandBuilder, but found out that this is "costly" in terms of performance. What I initially planned to do was to derive the parameters from an open connection, close the connection, then maybe cache the parameters obtained but I don't know if this is possible.

I am unsure how big of a hit the performance will get if I continue using the "deriveparameters" method WITHOUT caching the parameters driven. The environment is as follows

-intranet
-around 2000 users
-users spread out in different parts of the country

I am not familiar where they will put the web pages of the application, the web service and the database. I don't know if they'll be putting it in different servers or on one server, but that's something we cannot control too, that's why I am looking for the best approach.

I just don't want to hard-code all that parameters and if, for instance, we need to change some properties/parameters, it will be a pain to maintain the code. It would be nice if someone here can point a way to automate the whole thing w/o the performance of the system taking a hit.

Update Changed Values In Datagridview To Oracle DB

Apr 21, 2010

I am using oracle database and i already created a connection and retrieved data from my oracle DB to Datagridview using oledb commands,now my major challenge which has gotten me sick is to update any changes made in the datagridview to the oracle database. I tried using sqlcommandbuilder but failed. This code is what i used to retrieved the data from oracle and place it into the datagridview.

These are my declarations i made at the beginning of the form:

Private myDA As OleDbDataAdapter
Private myDataSet As DataSet

These are the codes inside the search button to load the retrieved data from oracle into the datagridview

Public con As OleDbConnection = New OleDbConnection("Provider=MSDAORA.1;User ID=SYSTEM; Password=simon; database=project")

VS 2008 Oracle DataAdupter Update Method & Constraint Violation?

Jan 7, 2010

I have the following simple Sub to write a dataset back to an Oracle database

[code..]

Checking the logs today I noticed that for some executions I got an ORA-0001 (constraint violation) error. It seems that one of the fields in the oracle table being updated is marked as unique and my dataset contains one or more records that have the same value in that field.

How is this error handled? Does it just not add the violating records? Does it hit the invalid record and quit? Does it rollback?

Update A Database Row With The Update Command?

Feb 11, 2010

is there a way to update a database row with the update command by first defining all parameters and then all values just like you can in the insert command? "insert into table1 (parameter1,parameter2,....) values (value1, value2,....)"something like "set table1 (parameter1, parameter2) values (value1,value 2,...) where ...."?because I only know the syntax to define each parameters value "set table parameter1=value, parameter2=value2... where"

Databound Combobox Doesn't Update Properly Depending On Input Meth

Feb 10, 2011

I've already found evidence of another having this problem. You can see this on this post by someone else:

http:groups.google...096b3fcaa?pli=1

The problem is that when one navigates the combobox via the keyboard, the combobox's information doesn't update. If you click a value with your mouse, though, everything works wonderfully. The link I've mentioned suggests changing the binding from the Text property to the SelectedItem property. I'm very deep into this project and it would be a bit of a nuisance to change the setup so as to allow it to be bound to the SelectedItem property.What I'm wondering is whether or not I can detect the user changing the selected entry in the combobox and tell VB that they "clicked" the value, if that makes any sense.

Loop To Be Ended By Button Click?

Feb 17, 2009

I am writing a simulator program that gets its I/O from external sources with results displayed on a form. I heve composed a form, with graphics that look great, but when I call a loop to actually start the simulation, all my labels on the form go transparent and the 'stop' button I have created does not function.I have tried placing this continuous loop in the form code box and in a separate module but to no avail. Even just putting a clock on the form does not work - it prints to screen initially, but only refreshes when I run the cursor over the stop button.This leads me to believe (remember I am a VB novice)that a form is full of Subs that only run once on form load.So where is the main body of code placed that will run continuously; from where I can check the button status and update the form?

.net - UPDATE Command With NULL?

Apr 27, 2011

I am trying to update a column in my database with the date selected from a control on my ASP.NET web page. I need to ensure that the code is correct because nothing is updating in the column.

Code:

Command = New SqlCommand("UPDATE Parking SET ParkingStartDate = @StartDate1 WHERE Parking_ID = @radio)", myConn)
Command.Parameters.Add("@StartDate1", SqlDbType.Date).Value = StartDate.SelectedDate
Command.Parameters.Add("@radio", SqlDbType.VarChar).Value = radio
Command.ExecuteNonQuery()
myConn.Close()

if the column is already NULL, is it correct to use the update statement?
