VS 2010 Dataset Created A New Process In Order To Run An Exe And Pass
Jul 20, 2010I am writing an application that is doing a file conversion.I created a new process in order to run an exe and pass it some arguments in order to do the file conversion. I ran this in the Submit button click event.I added an event handler for when the Process had exited and then continued my code, since I had to wait for the file conversion to complete before continuing.
Everything is running fine now up until the point where I am trying to call a FillBy for one of my datasets. My fill by is accepting a parameter UserID and filling it based on the user id, which is selected in a combo box in the program itself.I keep getting exceptions and it immediately exits the program whenever I try and use this fillby method, if I take it out it completes successfully; however, the new row I just inserted was not added.
I tried adding a tryparse for the value selected from the UserID combobox but I get this cross-thread exception, so I have a feeling the 2 are related.

May 20, 2009I am working in VB2008. I don't know what process is started when a user double clicks on a folder to display its contents. I am working on an application where I store paths to various folders in a database that is displayed in a treeview. I would like to be able to select a node in my tree and then pass the path to the associated folder to the application which can display the contents of the folder. I need to know the name of the application or process that I am trying to startup to display my folder contents.

Jun 4, 2009I have written a windows service that is meant to launch a notepad when a specific action happens. The problem i have is that even though the service launches notepad, the actual notepad it self is NOT visible. I know that it has been launced because i can see the process in the task manager. By the way the process is listed as a SYSTEM process rather than a process under my user name (i believe that is because my process is a "LocalSystem" one).

1 - User enters invalid current password
2 - New passwords do not match
3 - User's account is locked
4 - User cannot authenticate because password is expired
It's case 4 that I'm struggling with, because their is no way for me to take the password the user entered and verify it against active directory without getting an error.

Jun 1, 2011I am implementing a system where the user can Reset their password if they have forgotten it.Once it is reset I want to give them the option of changing the password so that it will be something more memorable to them.The password is hashed and if i enter in the correct old password and new password the password does change.If I enter in the wrong old password and new password the password doesnt change.Is there a way to match the old password with the old password field in code behind so I can throw up an error to the user to tell them what is wrong? I can change the PasswordChar property to an asterisk no problem and even copying and pasting symbols inserted into Word seemed to work - just couldn't find a symbol that looked like a bullet point!
Can this actually be achieved for a standalone exe, or is it something unique to web forms? Surely copying and pasting symbols from Word isn't actually the answer?

Pass Data To Dialog - Manipulate And Pass Back?
Jan 15, 2010Just started VB programming this week and have found a wealth of information about what I'm trying to do. Problem is, some of it is more complete than others.Here's what I'm trying to do:In Form1 (my main form), I want to instantiate a class that contains a couple of properties (speed setpoint and position setpoint). When I click a button, I want to pass this data to Form2 and populate two textboxes on Form2 with the properties of this object. I want to manipulate the property values on Form2 and click an OK button which closes the dialog and returns the manipulated data, updating the property values of the object. Here's the algorithm I'm following:1) On Form1, instantiate the class2) On Form1's "Pass Data" button click event handler, instantiate a Form2 object and invoke the ShowDialog method, passing the object as a parameter.
3) On Form2, overload the ShowDialog method to accept the object as a parameter and modify the method so that it returns the manipulated class data.4) On Form2, in the ShowDialog method, populate the textboxes with the class data that was passed in.Here's where I get stuck. If I press the OK button on Form2 (DialogResult.OK), it returns me to Form1, but what hook do I have in Form1 to receive the manipulated class data that the ShowDialog method is returning?Here's an example of what I'm thinking about:
