I open a child form from within a parent form

now the form customer master has values within a listview. when i doubleclick on a value within the listview i want this form to close and pass the value to a textbox within the parent form. what would the code be? I am relatively new to vb.
i have a from child and independent form.. i want to pass value form chilc form to independent form.. how to do it?

I have a custom form that I use instead of msgbox for a number of reasons. The initial reason was to keep the message centered on it's parent rather than the screen. There are many articles about this but I still have not found an elegant way to get access to the Parent's properties from inside the Child without passing them in (by one way or another).
In the child form the me.parent, me.parentform are not instantiated and apparently can not be used.
The point is to have this form be totally encapsulated with the logic being self contained. This is not an MDI child, and I do not want it to be due to the limitations on MDI children.
My current workaround looks like this I use a ShowMsg Function in my MyMsgBox form which looks like this:

View 3 RepliesI have a dictionary object (let's call it _do) I am using to cache some values for use in a multi-threaded program. I have a single controlling parent thread, with a timer function _doTimer() which can kick off child threads with a new instance of class MyThreadObject in each. My parent thread has _do as a property and with each time _doTimer() gets called, it may or may not repopulate _do depending on cacheflag settings. I pass a reference to _do to each instance of MyThreadObject and those threads at some point read the values of _do but DO NOT write to it.
What I want is to ensure that the child threads do not try and read _do whilst the parent thread is writing to it. Same thing but very slightly different -> I also don't want the parent thread to write to _do whilst the child threads are reading from it. However there is no problem with 1 child thread reading the values of _do at the same time as another child thread is reading the values - so ideally I do not want each child thread to completely lock out read access, only locking out Write access.. The code is roughly like this:

I have a parent object Pool that can have 0 to many children Question.
In my Details view of Pool, in addition to the Pool's property, I render his childs using RenderAction on the Question action List, so far, so good.
Inside my List view of Question (which is always rendered inside the Details view), I want a button to start the Create action of the Question object. My problem is, I don't know how to pass the Pool object, which is the model of my Details view, to the Create action so that I can link my Question to the right Pool.
Is there a way to access the "Master" Model inside the "included" view via RenderAction and if not, what's the best way to implement a work around.

What is the best way to pass objects between threads? I would like to create a new thread that creates a new object : Dim myobject as newobject = new newoject Then in my main thread, I would like to use myobject. Ideally I would like to just assign to a global variable but I don't think that is possible. I think I may have to use some form of delegate function (but I think the child thread would need to complete to use a callback). The new thread will not actually end before I need the object reference in the main thread. How should I go about this?

I am in the process of creating a program that needs to pass some information to another program. The program that needs to receive the data is meant as an update program to the first. I send a new copy of the host program over the sockets connection, then I need to pass the file name and location to the update program. After this information is sent the host program will quit so that the update can overwrite the host with the new version. The the update program restarts the host and everything goes on like normal. I have everything all-ready in place, except for passing the file information. I could just save the information in a text file and read form this, but it seems messy and illogical.
View 6 RepliesI'm creating an application that uses an MDI container to create a sort of desktop style for my form with a group of icons docked to the left hand side. The rest of the form is the desktop area that I want all windows to open in.If I use the standard File-New option that is provided by VB as a default for the MDI container this works fine and a child window is loaded.If I use similar code from one of the icons this also works fine.y problem is that one of my child forms is a search panel and when I double click on one of the results I want a window to open, but as an MDI child. However, this doesnt happen. When I open the window it opens as a completely separate window and isn't docked within the MDI parent. It also appears on the task bar as a separate application.

I have figured out, or think to have figured out, that the new way of doing arcs and lines does not require the HDC, so that problem is solved. The problem I am having now is that with the new way, every example I have found created a sub that does the drawings, like:

Is there anyway to pass values to this sub? I have to draw several arcs and lines and the values for them are different everytime. I would like to create a sub that would be used in every spot the old program used the old arc command and pass the needed values through it.

The "DoSomething" and the two parameters are dynamically provided from another script. They are stored in a string object in this script: sAction & sParameters. My question is how can I dynamically pass the "sAction" to the object oMyObject.For example oMyObject.sAction (where sAction should be the value stored in the sAction string). The example will probably not work. Is there a way to do this? The idea behind is to avoid having to write each function hardcoded, like:
