View 2 RepliesI'm wondering if anyone knows how to disable a keyboard key. This is because I am working on a space invaders game. In the game I have ammo. So after the ammo = 0 I want to make sure that the player cannot continue to keep shooting (using the keyboard) even though there is no ammo left.
View 1 Replieshow can i disable the Home, End, and the arrow keys Next and Previous?All i need is having all those four keyboard keys disable while my application is running so the app do nothing if one of those is pressed.

View 1 RepliesI have written a windows service that is meant to launch a notepad when a specific action happens. The problem i have is that even though the service launches notepad, the actual notepad it self is NOT visible. I know that it has been launced because i can see the process in the task manager. By the way the process is listed as a SYSTEM process rather than a process under my user name (i believe that is because my process is a "LocalSystem" one).
View 4 RepliesI have created a virtual keyboard like the "Windows onscreen keyboard". So, I have used the method sendkeys.But if I click on the button, it doesn't write nothing.
I think I have a problem with the FOCUS.As you can see, the "Windows onscreen keyboard" is always on top.This doesn't happen to my form. How can I do?
I'm having a problem when i try to disable the windows key in my (VB.Net 2008) App. I tried to use
If e.KeyData = Keys.LWin Then
MsgBox("Incorrect key pressed", MsgBoxStyle.Exclamation)
e.Handled = True
[code].....
My form contains lots and lots regular expression and other things in one button. whch when pressed takes some time to process.. so the form kind of gets stucked while the processing is bieng done.is there any coding for which it diables the entire form until the process is completed? like disabling the entire form and showing a text "please wait ... processing data" so user can not use other buttons or features at the same time or it might get crashed.

im tryin to make a application that could disable 2 services when when i run the application. so it would change it from say running automatically to disable. i have a lot of computers i have to administer, and i dont feel like goin one by one doing. Nd ima need radio buttons because a few machines are w7 and others r xp nd they each got diffrent services that have to be disabled.
I have an application developed in VB.net with 3.5 framework. I have disabled close (X) button on the main form of the application while doing some processing. I have achieve disabling by "Overriding ReadOnly Property CreateParams()" of the form. This is working fine as both control button on form and close option on right click in the taskbar shows disabled. This fulfill my needs on the Windows XP OS but not on Windows 7 OS. As in Windows 7 right click on application icon in taskbar shows a different menu, which has a new "Close window" option.
The close in original menu still shows disabled (this old menu is hidden but can be shown by holding Shift key and right click on the application icon in taskbar). Now I need to disable this "Close window" option as well and only for my application.
Is there a method through which I can do this programmatically.
Just a quick question, I want to stop the end users from being able to resize a GUI that I've created.
$objForm = New-Object System.Windows.Forms.Form
$objForm.Text = "ADX v2.1.2.0"
$objForm.minimumSize = New-Object System.Drawing.Size(965,665)

View 6 RepliesIs there a way to change default Windows keyboard shortcuts like CTRL + C, CTRL + X etc. to my desired shortcuts like CTRL + J, CTRL + Q etc. in .NET ?
I can register the new hotkey easily with RegisterHotkey. I just need to unregister the hotkeys Windows has registered and add their functionality in the new hotkey.
I have done some reasearch on disabling the mouse and keyboard both on Google and on the forum and what ever i find can not get to work. What I'm trying to do is on a click of a button it will disable the mouse and keyboard. It must work in W
View 4 RepliesI have created a Windows service in VS 2005 that monitors a folder for XML files, reads some data elements from the XML using XmlDocument, then copies the files to another location. I find that when I drop 2 or more XML files into the folder simultaneously, it processes them with no problems, but when I drop the same files into the folder one at a time, I will get an error on the second file: "The process cannot access the file <my file> because it is being used by another process." If I stop my service, restart it, and drop the second file into the folder again, it works the second time. I am confident that no other program is accessing this file at the same time as my service. My impression is that the processing of file # 1 is somehow not releasing all of the resources, leading to the processing of file # 2 mistakenly thinking that it can't access that second file.
Dim FileWatcher As New FileSystemWatcher()
It points the watcher to my folder, sets up an event handler, then enables the watching:
FileWatcher.Path = InputFolderPath

I am trying to write a Windows Script that will allow me to monitor the following: That 2 x seperate but specific processes within Component Services "Running Processes" list are currently running and have not reset within the past hour. If I already know the PID, then I can retrieve the CreationDate (I assume which I can use to check for restarts? or is this the actual process creation/installation date) for each specific process, however if a restart occurs the PID will change and my script needs to know what the new PID is without me telling it!

I have developed a Windows Service in VB.Net (VS2010) which is running on Windows7. I am trying to get "MainWindowTitle" for processes thru their process object but it returns empty.

Ok, so I'm writing a basic windows form application in VB.net as you do and need to be able to raise keyboard events based on data received from the serial port. I'm able to receive the characters that I want (lets say a lower case c) and display them. Its also easy enough for me to find the keycode. What I want to do though is tell windows that key "c" has been pressed. The application is paired to a bluetooth terminal, I wanted to have the experience of writing the code behind this myself rather than using another library although it seems I've failed already. How would I go about doing this?
View 1 Repliesi'm making a little app in which i need to enumerate all the windows of a specific process. i managed to do that but through enumerating all the windows in the system and then just test if it is the process i'm talking about or not by using

but this method seem to take a lot of unnecessary time. is there a wind32 function that can allow me to enumerate the windows of a specific process giving its handle.
I'm printing pdf files via the below code in a service. In Windows 7 this works really well, In Windows Vista, nothing happens at all? What am I doing wrong?

Where should I go to leanr to program stuff like getting keystrokes, locking keyvoards, changing desktop backgrounds, opening CD trays, changing IE homepage, etc.... Basically everything windows... I'm using VB.NET right now. Is there an api or something to learn for this kind of stuff?
View 10 RepliesI'm developing a program where I've had to add a keyboard shortcuts system. The problem is it uses a third party OCX for a part of its display, and it is catching some essential WM_KEYDOWN messages when in focus, like Ctrl+C, Ctrl+V, etc. I've tried catching the WM_KEYDOWN message through WndProc, but the message is not propagating, so I guess the keyboard messages go from the inner container to the outer one, don't they?
The WM_KEYUP messages can be caught tho, but I'd prefer to be able to catch some of those messages on the KeyDown event. I'm aware I could make some low-level hook, but I'd like to avoid this workaround. Well, if the WM_KEYDOWN message goes from the OCX to its top level container, I guess I'll have to treat those key combinations in the KeyUp event.
