View 1 RepliesI currently need to build a Automation Add-in for Excel. This add-in will load a recordset from Database to Excel. I would like to have function A() that I input in Cell as a formular. This function A() call a the add-in to load the data from Database to Excel. The data should be a matrix. So that means I would like to set in Excel worksheet a range of data by just calling single function in a cell. (I am sure there should be some way to implement it)As I know if I develop a shared Add-in by VB(or VB.Net) and in the add-in, I can get an Object of Excel.Application. By this Excel.Application object, I can get full control of Excel inside the Add-in. That means if I define a sub that load datamatrix from database and using the Excel.Application object I can populate the data matrix to the Excel.
I have done much research on internet and I now have built a shared Add-in for excel. I should say this add-in works fine without invoke the Excel.Application Object that I have tested. But when I call the Add-in function that invode Excel.Application Object from Excel I got an error as below:
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
Run-time error '2147467262'(*)
Unable to cast object of type 'System.String' to type Excel.Application

View 4 RepliesI am coming to the end of coding this system in Visual Studios 2008 which I took over from a guy who has worked on it for a year.He is not here anymore. He made 9 projects and put them into one solution(screen shot below).I have only published a .NET website for VB and have never published something like this.P3Data is the only one that the publishing tab comes up with. All the other projects the publishing tab does not come up. Why is P3Data bold? How can I publish the whole solution 'P3Data' as one whole entity?

View 1 RepliesI've ran into an issue with my VS 2005 where that suddenly it hangs whenever I try to open a web site project or create a new website. As soon as I select and existing site or choose to create a new one the IDE stops responding gives only a message that it is busy if I try to click on anything. I have even let it set for up to several minutes but no change. I am forced to kill the process any time I try to do anything with new or existing web site now on this computer.Nothing is wrong with the web site projects, they open fine on my other computers and were working fine on this one until they weren't.

View 3 RepliesIs there a way for me to create multiple projects using different languages under 1 solution in VS 2008? If so, how?
View 3 RepliesBasically I've been using the VS2008 Express editions for the last few years. With the express editions (with the exception of C++), by default when you create a new project, the project files are all stored in a temporary directory. When you select "Save All" for the first time, VS would prompt for a project directory and then you could save the project into your regular project directory. This is behaviour I found exceedingly useful, as many times I create very quick, simple programs to do 1 thing for me before never needing them again.Once I close VS, it prompts me whether I want to save the project, I select "Discard" and everything's all good; my project directory doesn't get cluttered with useless directories for 1-time projects and everybody wins.
However, with VS2010 Ultimate I've noticed that the default behaviour has changed and all new projects are created directly into my Project directory (yes I'm aware I can change the directory when creating the project, but that's a needless waste of time). This has led me to reverting to express editions whenever I want to write a small program, which isn't too bad at home, but at work we only have VS2010 professional. Every time I create a simple project I have to remember to delete the directory later or face having a directory of "WindowsFormsApplication1000232131231".
I have a sulution consisting of aout 30 projects, where 8 of tehm are deployment projects. Currently, when I want to debug the winforms app, I press "start debugging", and wait for about 15 minutes for the solution to be built, and also the deployment projects to be built and packed. The solution itself is built in about 2 minutes, the rest of the time is for the deployment projects. So, my question, is there a way to make the setup in visual studio so that only the code projects are built and the deployment projects to be built manually when needed?
View 2 RepliesIn Visual Studio 2005, I can't seem to get the Intellisense menu to pop up at all when I click CTRL+Space. This seems to be limited to VB.NET files. I have tried creating new Visual C# and C# web projects, and it works fine there. There also doesn't seem to be a problem in things like CSS files in VB.NET projects. But when I create a new VB.NET web site, CTRL+Space does nothing. I have tried resetting all the Import and Export setting. That didn't work either.

I'm trying to create a generic ListView user control that can be used over and over again in different projects. I've got all the basics done but I want to be able to act on click events in the from not the user control. In other words if someone right clicks on the listview, for example, I want the form to know it and be able to act on it.
View 8 RepliesI am trying to migrate from XP & Net 2005 to Windows 7 & Net 2010 My intention was to replicate net 2005 first & get projects working before installing net 2010, as I envisaged all sorts of learning tasks which I could resolve at a snaill pace whilst still being able to operate with net 2005
Stage 1 was to load 2005 on Windows 7, no problems yet.
Stage 2 open the Virtual Cryptainer drive
Stage 3 load a project ( was never a problem with XP)
Stage 4 project errors reported as not being able to access linked modules in another folder
Windows 7 seems to have more folder security/permissions than XP, so I altered as many folders being associated with the project but to no avail.By changing the virtual drive folder permissions are they amended on the drive folders (if so how would this affect going back to XP)
are the folder permissions somehow stored in the registry, which means if I restore an old virtual drive from backup, does W7 now know the permissions & apply them to the back up drive, even though those folders were never accessed in W7?By the way, anybody reading this that does not know about Cryptainer, should look at it very seriously, I now have no data files on drive C, & all my data files in the cryptainer vault are compact & virtually impossible to be opened without a password up to 100 char long!

View 3 RepliesWhen I open Microsoft Visual Basic 2010 Express, the following message comes up:
Quote: Microsoft Visual Basic 2010 Express. The automatically saved settings file 'visual studio 2010settingsvb expressCurrentSettings.vssettings' cannot be found. You can change this file on the 'Import and Export Settings' Tools Options page. The IDE will use your most recent settings for this session.
I click the 'OK' button, and the Start Page loads with the "Recent Projects" list on the left.
When I click on any of the projects to open them, another message comes up saying:

I had made a project in VB.NET 2005 with SQL SERVER 2005 used as database. Now i want to make a setup of this project but i am unable to integrate sqldatabase and .net framework in this setup project. Is there any way to do this. Because it is assumed that the client does not have .NET Framework installed nor he has SQL Server on his system and the worst condition would be he does not have even internet connection from where these two setups can be downloaded if we give the condition for downloading these programs from the net if the client does not have these programs installed on his machine.
