Create A Generic ListView User Control That Can Be Used Over And Over Again In Different Projects?
Jul 9, 2009
I'm trying to create a generic ListView user control that can be used over and over again in different projects. I've got all the basics done but I want to be able to act on click events in the from not the user control. In other words if someone right clicks on the listview, for example, I want the form to know it and be able to act on it.

I am trying to create a ListView control at run-time and populate it with data from a SQL Query, I can create and execute the SQL query returning my desired data, I can create the listview control, but I can not get the list view to Populate data from the ListviewGroup I am creating from the SQL query. Code Snippet Follows.
Dim ItemGroupSQL As New ListViewGroup
' Create three items and three sets of subitems for each item.
a = 0
[Code].....
This will create a ListView Box and populate the data in a very odd way, every row will have 5 columns with the same data repeated in each column. I have verified (using the commented out msgbox statements you see) that the ItemGroupSQL variable is being populated correctly. but Listview1.items.addrange(itemgroupSQL.items()) does no add the data to the listview correctly
Am I using incorrect syntax for Items.Addrange?

I am trying to populate a a listview control with items and subitems that a user enters into a group of textboxes on a form. It looks as if some of the code to do this has changed since VB6 and I am confused again. Here is the current code I am using without success:
lvSurgProcedure is the name of my listview control
Private Sub btnAddSurgeProcedure(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles btnAddSurgProcedure.Click
Dim lvItem As New ListViewItem
[code].....

When I try to create an Inherited User Control everything goes fine until I specify the base control and press "Add" in the Inheritance dialog. The code in the newly created Control should have a "Inherited From" statement, but it doesn't and nothing works after that. I even tried following the ctlClocklib project and the same thing happened. ctlAlarmClock.vb was created but the "Inherited From" statement was missing.

I want to create a User-Control that inherits the functionality of a TabContol.
I begin by starting a new project of the type Windows Form Control Library. Next I place a TabControl on the UserControl designer surface and Dock the TabContol to Fill the UserControl.
I go to the code editor for the UserControl and enter the following line of code.
Inherits System.Windows.Form.TabControl
Then I run the program and get an error. Intellisence recommends that I use one of two recomendation. When I accept the recommendation I and try to run the program the problems esculate.
The design-surface is no longer accessable.
I try to comment out the problem lines of code in the UserControl1.Designer.VB file but that doesn't help.
How can I create a UserControl that Inherits the Properties of the TabControl so that the properties of the TabControl are visable in the Properties Window?

I am working on a user control. Embedded in my user control is another user control. All of a sudden while programming some simple stuff I get an "out of memory error message". I can no longer load my project (after reboots etc.). I start a new project, copy the control.vb files into a new project folder.. add then add the control to the new project. Ican view the design and the code of the control. When I attempt to drag the control onto another control in the same project I get an error message
"Failed to create component... 'system.outofmemoryexception. Out of memory".

Im new to .Net and I wondering if you have to re-create a table server control on every postback. I'm having a problem when a user clicks a button which adds a row to the table. It works fine up to about 50 rows being added then the page is extremely slow. [code]

I've got a VB.Net form application that dynamically loads user controls based on which navigation link the user clicks on. I'd like to make it easier to use at Design time by putting a link of some sort to open the User Control at design time. The link would go onto the form in the space where the User Control will be going. This just saves a little time from having to browse through the files to open the correct file.

Basically I've been using the VS2008 Express editions for the last few years. With the express editions (with the exception of C++), by default when you create a new project, the project files are all stored in a temporary directory. When you select "Save All" for the first time, VS would prompt for a project directory and then you could save the project into your regular project directory. This is behaviour I found exceedingly useful, as many times I create very quick, simple programs to do 1 thing for me before never needing them again.Once I close VS, it prompts me whether I want to save the project, I select "Discard" and everything's all good; my project directory doesn't get cluttered with useless directories for 1-time projects and everybody wins.
However, with VS2010 Ultimate I've noticed that the default behaviour has changed and all new projects are created directly into my Project directory (yes I'm aware I can change the directory when creating the project, but that's a needless waste of time). This has led me to reverting to express editions whenever I want to write a small program, which isn't too bad at home, but at work we only have VS2010 professional. Every time I create a simple project I have to remember to delete the directory later or face having a directory of "WindowsFormsApplication1000232131231".

how can i call a VB function - deleteevent() in usercontrol.ascx.vb from a javascript function in clickhandler(e) in usercontrol.ascx. The call should cause a postback because I need the usercontrol to display the changes.I am currently trying to do it by using a linkbutton with style display:none, and calling its click event from the javascript function. But i dunno how to call the click event.
