Random Variable Generation, And Accumulator?
Jun 6, 2011
i am trying to teach myself vb (im only 14), and i'm not having a easy time. What im trying to do, i need a user to define a upper and lower bound of a range. From there i need to generate random numbers, a certan number of times, with in that range...this is my first problem.And then, i need to make counters to store/test all of these variables as even, odd, positive, negative and zero's ...that i need to append to a richtextbox to show how many of each. Im not even sure if rtb is the right object to use...you know, instead of textbox, or label?the last thing was to do with Private function as boolean. do I need this to test these variable?

I've actually gotten this program running on paper, BUT, when I try to write a code for it, it doesn't work . . . somewhat . . . When the user clicks the compute button, the total value of inventory is computed by multiplying the cost per item times the quantity of the item and then adds the result to the value in an accumulator variable.
So far this is what I've come up with:
CODE:
The quantity and cost per item is suppose to multiply each row, but it only multiplies the first row.

If I have say 5 numbers: 1, 29, 53, 95, 103 What would be the VB.net code for randomly selecting a number of those 5.
i.e) The random number has to be 1, 29, 53, 95, or 103 and has to be randomly generated.
I've tried using the Int(Rnd() * 104), but I do not know how to make it choose only these 5 numbers!

I'm working on a project that produces quite a few pdf's through Crystal Reports. The problem I'm facing is quite random. Users are reporting that reports sometimes get generated too small (report scaled down to 70% or so and printed upon the pdf) and also that some reports are being printed in landscape while they were designed in portrait and vice versa.
what could cause these random changes in generation? and maybe a solution?

For Username: when you click to random Username Button it will auto generate Username from firstname, lastname, string, number like this
Username = firstname+number+lastname+string
For Password:
Password = random string + random number

I am making a simple console game. If you have ever heard of the board game code breaker you will understand better.
In my version of the game you will have to figure out a four number combination. The only numbers it can be is 1, 2, 3, or 4.
I need to generate four random numbers and put each on into its own variable. This allows me to call back each number.
How do I do this? I have been doing some research on random numbers and I use this code to generate four random numbers
Dim rnd As New Random()
Console.WriteLine("20 random integers from -100 to 100:")
For ctr As Integer = 1 To 20
Console.Write("{0,6}", rnd.Next(-100, 101))
If ctr Mod 5 = 0 Then Console.WriteLine()
Next
Console.WriteLine()
But I can't figure out to put each number into a variable so I can call the same numbers back.

am running VB express (2008 edition). I have a class that holds 2 arrays (1 array represents the digits of the integer side of a number the other holds the decimal digits) I have overloaded all the operators to work with these numbers as if they were one. Each operator has the following format:
[Code].....
whats happening is that the sign of the b variable (and only the b variable) randomly changes. Almost allways at the statement bb=b (bb is in place so when I reach that point I know what the variable had before the calculation). I can watch it change as I step through the code (stepping over the operators) I can watch it change almost allways at the bb=b, but sometimes in other odd places (such as the d=a*yparam statement). I can change the values back to their original and step through the code(stepping into the operator this time) and it will not do it. It NEVER does it when stepping into the operator, only when I dont, and only sometimes. I have spent the last two days working on debugging this one problem, with every other variable in the function it works like it should and I am not sure what to look at next. I know it does you no good without seeing the code but didnt think pasting 8,000 lines of code would go over too well so I would be willing to send the source to anyone

End Sub

I know that there is a way in which you can generate any random number between any range using the random variable. But my question is that is there any way to do the same thing but with letters?

This is for vb.net I've been working to develop a system which involves computation.What I've been trying to develop in my program is, I have a textbox where user will enter a numeric value,there is a button and a label below and in the first place the label should be set to zero. Everytime you enter a numeric value in the textbox and click the button it should add the value in the label and should save the value in the label so even if you exit the program whatever the last value displayed in the label should remain the same when run the program again,I believe it requires a database to save the value.Basically its like with payment system which saves the total amount of all payments made.
This is how should it works,say for example,if you will enter 1,2,3 it should save the sum value which is 6 in the label even if you close the program and when you run it again and enter another value it should add to the current value which is 6.

Okay my assignment is to change a code up using two functions instead of a subprocedure to calculate total rainfall and avedrage rainfall and then to add a startover button to the application which not only clears all the labels but also clears the counter and accumulator. This is what I have gotten so far my functions do not work and I can get the labels cleared. I just can't get the counter and accumulator to reset back to zero

I am trying to maintain a total for multiple collection objects in a class. When I create a new object, it resets the total to zero, only adding the current value being passed to the function. I have tried to use a static variable, create a second variable to hold the old total while adding the new value. The base class holds the total value, while the sub class creates the new object that holds information. I am passing the new value to a function in the base class adding the new value to the total when each new record is created.

I've read numerous posts and threads about random number generation, but I havent' run across this.If I generate a bunch of random numbers, the results are radically different if I create a new Random generator for each number than if I use on Random generator for all the numbers. The results are much more consistent and evenly distributed if I use the same Random generator.I would have thought the opposite,because creating a new Random generator each time should reduce the number of random repetitions, if a different time slice is used to create the random number.[code]......

The class Random is out right defective. It always produces the same random numbers in the same sequence. Things I have tried so far is every kind of seed you can think of as well as Randomize. The result is that I always get the same random numbers in exactly the same sequence.

I am practicing using the drawing commands, and have gotten a grass background and black happy face that moves around the background.It's a 10x10 grid of 50 pixels.I want (at the moment, when i press enter) it to generate a random number of trees (15 ~ 25) at random locations on the background. The program doesn't freak out about anything, and the variables seem to be right (using stop commands) but it's not drawing anything. Here is the code for the "GenerateTrees" command I have for when I press enter.
Private Sub GenerateTrees()
NumberOfTrees = Int(Rnd() * 10) + 15

What resources I need to look for, to generate one png image out of three? Since there are sprite generators out there, that do not do what I want, I wanted to try by myself. The user interface should not be the problem, but i have no experience of generating bitmaps, especially those with transparent backgrounds. I will do that in .net. Letīs say I have 6 png files. I want to put them into one image, where there will be two rows of images in it, so 3 in row, 2 in height, 3*2. Every image might have a little different sizes, so i would need to fill up the space with, um, nothing..
