View 6 RepliesI'm new to VB and I'm doing a calculations program for test scores. I got everything setup for my clear and exit buttons but not sure what I have to put in the calculate button code for it to calculate. Here is what I have so far.

I have to take information that is entered in a text box such as name, test score then send it to a list box then from there I have to split the test score and calculate the grade. I have been trying to find information on how to separate the test score to do the calculation.

I'm not sure where I'm going wrong with this. it's supposed to let the user add scores to the list, then calculate the total, average, and count. However, it doesn't let me add more values to the list. Any help whatsoever would be awesome! Keep in mind, I am new to VB and programming languages, and was just playing around with code hoping for any sort of positive result, and therefore some of the code may not be necessary, or make sense. My objective is to find the lowest test score in the array and display it in the associated label using a DoLoop. However, I don't think I was to use the ForNext stmt.Could I have used the DoLoop without the ForNext? ' displays the lowest test score stored in an array

I am writing a noughts and crosses game and I want to be able to keep score everytime each character wins a game, I have written a sub routine to handle this but it seems to count up in 5's and 10's??I have used a global variable like this Dim i As Integer = 1 then declaired that variable in my sub like this i += 1 (I thaught that this would just add 1 everytime X won a game)then used the variable i to add the score to the label control that keeps the score for the character X.My question is, am I using the correct syntax (+=) for the variable.

View 7 RepliesI am new to working with SQL databases (and databases in general) so I do not have a lot of experience with how queries work and how I can practice them. When I was first learning xml and XPath, I found XPath Visualizer incredibly helpful after someone on stack overflow mentioned it to me.Due to this, I am wondering if a similar tool exists for SQL databases?Basically a tool that will allow me to connect to a database,enter queries and see somehow what the results would be like.
I have looked online a bit, however I have found relatively few options in terms of any utility that would do what I want, and that looks reliable.I will ultimately be writing an application to interact with an SQL 2008 server in vb.net, however for now I am just experimenting so I will know what I am doing when I actually want to create my application.So far I have managed to connect to the database using an OLE DB connection, but I am now looking for a way to experiement with queries without just querying and figuring out a way to interpret the results in my program. Basically I want to be able to remove the programming aspect of things so I can experiment with queries without needing to question anything in my code that is unrelated to the specific query.
I work with a database, the db is on the <project_folder>database folder.
If want to open the database, Application.StartupPath returns[code]...
So I have to compile the project to an .exe to make tests.

1) Does anything need to be added to my project e.g. code to allow this functionality. 2) Is there a way that I can easily check to see if my application can work with Unicode? 3) Advise on how other people test for this? I'd like to create a simple application to determine the writing speed. In this application I want to view a line of text (may be more than one line) to the user to write it. And I want to select (higlight) the character the user pressed in my line and to move like a cursor to the next character (or to put underline under the current charater). How can I do that? and what is the object or component i must use to insert the text. Finally, if I want to make it multiple lines how to determine the enter key pressed by the user and how to move the cursor to the next line?

View 2 RepliesThis is for vb.net I've been working to develop a system which involves computation.What I've been trying to develop in my program is, I have a textbox where user will enter a numeric value,there is a button and a label below and in the first place the label should be set to zero. Everytime you enter a numeric value in the textbox and click the button it should add the value in the label and should save the value in the label so even if you exit the program whatever the last value displayed in the label should remain the same when run the program again,I believe it requires a database to save the value.Basically its like with payment system which saves the total amount of all payments made.
This is how should it works,say for example,if you will enter 1,2,3 it should save the sum value which is 6 in the label even if you close the program and when you run it again and enter another value it should add to the current value which is 6.
I am having some trouble with my program that I am doing. I am supposed to code the application so that it creates a report which I have done. Now the problem that I am having is I have to use an accumulator for the total sales amount in the access file. I am stuck on how to have it say "Total Sales:" and then have the accumulator with the ammount of $32000 next to it becuase I have to use the accumulator to total the sales.

Lately our network is having some speed issues at certain times of day, so what I'd like to do is make a little app that will test the network speed at certain intervals, like once an hour between certain servers etc and then write the results to a text file. Is VB 2008 cable of doing something like this? I thought of maybe copying a 500mb file from 1 place to another and somehow record the average transfer rate of that file, but I am not exactly sure about how to record the transfer speed.

Okay my assignment is to change a code up using two functions instead of a subprocedure to calculate total rainfall and avedrage rainfall and then to add a startover button to the application which not only clears all the labels but also clears the counter and accumulator. This is what I have gotten so far my functions do not work and I can get the labels cleared. I just can't get the counter and accumulator to reset back to zero
