I am writing a VB.NET program and I'm trying to accomplish the following:
Read and loop through a text file line by line
Show the event of the loop on a textbox or label until a button is pressed
The loop will then stop on any number that happened to be at the loop event and when a button is pressed again the loop will continue.
Code
Imports System.IO
Public Class Form1
'Dim nFileNum As Integer = FreeFile() ' Get a free file number
Dim strFileName As String = "C:scb.txt"
[Code] .....
I'm able to read the text file but my label will only loop if I hit the start button. It goes to the next line, but I want it to continue to loop through the entire file until I hit a button telling it to stop.
I have a folder that contains about 100 txt files with information in each file.I'm trying to figure out how to loop through each file in the folder, and add the text to a string.I've pulled this off MSDN's site, but it doesn't seem to read "each" file but just one.
Dim path As String = "c: empMyTest.txt" ' This text is added only once to the file. If File.Exists(path) = False Then
I have a txt file that I need to read into a listview, but I need to read from a specific line in that file. Below is a sample of the txt file to read,
I have one combobox, two buttons (Add and View) and listbox. When I click button Add text from combobox is added to text file. This is code for Add button:
In a loop, I need to read a list of URLs from a text file, download the web page, and search for a bit of text using a regex. I used the following code, which triggers the error "WebClient does not support concurrent I/O operations.":
In a loop, I need to read a list of URLs from a text file, download the web page, and search for a bit of text using a regex.
I used the following code, with DownloadStringAsync() to avoid freezing the UI, but it triggers the error "WebClient does not support concurrent I/O operations.":
Private Sub AlertStringDownloaded(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As DownloadStringCompletedEventArgs) If e.Cancelled = False AndAlso e.Error Is Nothing Then
I want If A.Text = (detline(0)) the program show a msgbox (OK this) and after the msgbox to cl;ose the file and exit from soubroutine When the pointer reach the FileClose(ReadFile) i receive in Catch When an Err.Number 13 WHY??
I'm using VB.Net's Excel component to read Excel file, but the performance is totally slow, since it has to loop through cells to get values. Reading a file containing one sheet with 1162 rows and 105 columns (which is small size compared to my general requirement) already costs more than 5 minutes.1. I want to ask if any of you have suggestion on reading such an Excel file with better performance, except OleDB, cuz most compies here have vesion problem?2. Is it normal that it tooks a long time for Excel component to read Excel file, or is it that I implement the code in a wrong way?
I need to check the test result with the data from database, to find out which test result is failed. If there is a fail test result, I will show an alert to the operator and stop the checking process. Until the operator close the alert, then the checking process will continue from the last read point.
I'm trying to make a program that can read .mp3 data (Such as Artist, Album, Year, Track number, etc), but I need to be able to do two things that I have no clue how to do:
1. Read starting from a specified string (E.G, On one line it states: [code]
2. Read until a specified string (E.G, On the previously stated line,I need to read starting from what I said, up until.
Ok so I have a combo box that lists a set of names. What I want to do is match a selected name to a text file and read from it. The text file contains the same name and has grades listed below:
i have 5 textboxes in a form. I have a streamwriter that writes all of their text to on text file like this:
Code: Dim xfile As String = Application.StartupPath & "/Set.txt" If File.Exists(xfile) = True Then Dim writex As StreamWriter = New StreamWriter(xfile)
[code]....
I was wondering how to get the text under the each number and place it in the corresponding textbox.
i am working on read line by line . At each line that my app read , i added a event . How do i read a text file till the end and Stop it? there is how it work :
I sometimes use text files to save application data to as I have just found it easy and I just use streamreader/writer to read/write values like so[code]...
I am trying to read a text file into a text box, and show the progress bar loading. Sometimes if the text file is big, i don't know when it will finish reading it. This is basically the code i use to read a text file, but i don't know how to show the progress bar.
I have a text file containing 10 pieces of information. I want to read the information from the text file and put it in text boxes on a form, so that the user can view the information and edit if required. What is the best way of approaching this?
how to do this for vb6 however i am using vb 2008 and the code for vb6 does not seem to work.
I have designed a form with a text box on it, and a command button underneath. The idea is to run this as a sort of stiky notes section.
I want the text box to read rich text into the textbox (C:\\stickynotes.rtf")
Then i have a command button underneath which i want to save the content of the rich text box to the rtf file (C:\\stickynotes.rtf). This is so that the user can edit and ammend information.
here is some code i have so far
Dim fileReader As System.IO.StreamReader fileReader = My.Computer.FileSystem.OpenTextFileReader("C:\\stickynotes.rtf")
So far what i have is a button and a text box and when you press the button it my.computer.filesystem.readalltext(from this file as string) but what i want it to do is to read all the text in that file minus whatever is in parenthesis so like lets say the file has saved into it, hi my name is bob but my realname is (jeorge) that when you press the button it reads and shows everything in the file minus jeorge which is in parenthesis
im trying to have the user press a button and a window pops up to select a file. then it reads the file and puts it in a text box. how could i do this?
I've wrote a program designed to loop through a text file containing email addresses and unsubscribe said email addresses in our CRM system. I'm having a problem with the following code...
Do While obj_filereader2.Peek() <> -1 strcuremail = obj_filereader2.ReadLine() Dim dbqCustNo As String = "SQL CODE HERE - SELECT CUSTOMER NUMBER" Dim exeCustNo As New SqlCommand() Dim SQLdr As SqlDataReader exeCustNo.Connection = ConnStr [Code] ......
The program is falling over when trying to execute the update commands during the datareader loop, with the fabled 'There is already an open DataReader associated with this Command...' error. This program has evolved as I've found problems/better ways of working, so it might be a case of myself just not using the DataAdapter right - I'm guessing I should be using a function of the open DataReader rather than the ExecuteNonQuery command.
I a very large text document, I need to read some lines and at the end of each line, insert a text from the header of each page to he preceding lines.I have the following code the reads the file and displays it on a list box.Public Class Dialogs..[code]
I need to implement a routine to read a plain text file, BUT that file has a predefined format. The file format is as follows:
Quote:
<FILE_PROPERTIES> 'The "< >" also appears Propertie1="String" 'It's possible to have spaces after or before the "=" Propertie2="String" Propertie3="String" PropertieN="String"
[code]....
Is there any Windows API Routine to read something like that?Or could you point me an URL where something is implemented?I don't want a procedure to read the file line by line and comparing them with Line Input because blank spaces, empty lines and comments starting with " // " may appear too, and I don't want to take them into account, but also I need to save changes to the file, but only to the modified section, without having to read the whole file, and re-write it completely.
Binary access can't work, because I don't know what's the size of each "section", since the number of elements into it can change. I need something like the "ReadINI" Windows API Procedure, but allowing me to read the "[XXX]" sections headers, and also the "<XXX>" file title header.
Before I begin I would like to mention that I am not a noob in VB, it's just I've never had to do anything this complex before. Basically what I want is to have a program that you can load a txt file in, have it copy key words, and paste it in a textbox so I can use it later on. So in this text file, there is a bunch of info, but I am only needing a certain part. Here is an example of a text file (actually a .dat file, but is easily read):
i would like to ask is there anyway to read a txt file with UTF-8 encoding using streamreader or filestream. the txt file is contain some extended ASCII that makes me cannot read the characters properly. I hav tried Encoding.ASCII.GetString(Encoding.UTF8.GetBytes()) but still it return wrong character when it's reading extended ASCII code.
