I'm trying to "convert" an Access DB to a stand alone application. I have under estimated the differences between VBA and VB. Although I have many questions, I'll focus on this topic first.
The Access DB collects and maintains SNMP traps from a radio station. I import CSV files from a remote Unix server via FTP, parse the text line-by-line, and add to a table as a new record. So far, I can parse the text and add to a dataset but I want to write directly to the data source. I also need error handling that will trap errors for duplicate records. There is a Reconcile function that ensures that all lines in the CSV files are added to the table before the files are permanently deleted. Here's what I have so far:
Public Class clsRnm
Private msTrapTable As String
Private moTrap As clsRnmTrap
how i read data from Sql server and write that in .csv file with vb.net , after that saving the .csv file with my own name and path? what must i do? for information data in sql like this one:
I would like to write a code to read data from .gpx file, but I get stucked with classes: I have a problem with creating working array of objects in object and setting or getting data from it.
I wrote this:
Module Module1 Sub Main() Dim i As Integer
[code]....
but I get always the latest values of points for all slots of array... Lets say we got 3 points as an input: 1. lon: 5, lat: 1; 2. lon: 2, lat: 3; 3. lon: 4, lat:9. I always get the same values for i = 0 to 2... lon: 4, lat: 9.
what I am trying to do is i have a table with four records and I want to write it to a txt file. I am running sql server 2000.I am able to connect to my database and I am able to right data to a txt file my only problem is it always returns the 1st row of data.
Dim FILE_NAME As String = "C: emp est2.txt" Dim conn As New SqlClient.SqlConnection Dim da As New SqlClient.SqlDataAdapter
Is it possible to write a binary file directly to the clipboard in .NET? (Rather than write it to a file and then copy it?) the file is not an executable but will be pasted to the desktopfolder for example. [Code]
I have dev.xls file with sheet name as "Electricity". In my vb.net winform application, I want to read all this data and write it into another xls file (Test.xls) with sheet name as "Electricity_Processed". Looking for a way to do this without using other dll's or Interop
I am making trying to make a program that can read the file information directly from a specified file, but I am having a lot of difficulty reading things like file comments. An example of this can be found in windows XP when you alternate / right click on any file and click on properties. You'll get a lot of extra information. Now I have a few questions about this.
1.Can this information even be read in VB.NET 2.If so how 3.If not do I need to create some kind of data file to store the file information
I want to connect data from any folder in my computer. After user click browse button it appear any location for access database folder. After that user click connect button and but i have facing connection problem.
Under Browser Button Using ofd As New OpenFileDialog ofd.Filter = "mdb files |*.mdb"
Reading a .txt file in VB.net. My file path is C:UsersMyLilMulePepeDocumentsVisual Studio 2008Projectscurtain_calls.txt.
This is my line of Dim LoanOptionsFile As String = "C:UsersMyLilMulePepeDocumentsVisual Studio 2008Projectscurtain_calls.txt"
I can read the file when I run the program, but how do I write the file path so that someone else can download my program and file and read the file on their system?
My first question has to do with the opening lines needed in a VB program in order to connect to Excel 2007 and read/write some data from/to it. I know the process only slightly and reading and writing to the cells is not my real concern for the moment. What I need to become familliar with are the lines like this:
CODE:
This is just one of the examples I have read through and to be honest I only follow this slightly. The trouble was that with each new article I read, people did this differently, not the variables on the left mind you, just that some left out lines, which I can see could be done based on circumstances. Still others said the Imports line was not needed....etc...and other loaded up at least 3 or four more Imports lines insisting all were needed.
I'm looking for some straight-forward advice on what is the minimum needed to access an existing Excel spreadhseet and to just read some of it's cells to variables in the code and then writed some data back to certain cells within the spreadsheet and then save and close it.
Also, please note that I am using VB 2010 Express. Why, because I'm a broke developer who spent most of last year out of work. I have a new contract assignment which is so far going well but will go even better if I can master this technique with VB.NET, not VBA. And all the docs I've read said that even though VB 2010 Express is a watered down version of VS, I should be able to do medium level tasks such as this with it.
My assignement is to create a simplistic checkbook organizer. The GUI is built, and the form is needing to call to a transactional class i have created. My problem is I dont know the right commands or syntax. I though I had it, but i'm getting an error.
Error: "Arguement not specified for parameter 'PreviousBalance' of 'Public Sub New (PreviousBalance as Double)'.
Here is my code so far for the form:
Private Sub btnAddTransaction_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles btnAddTransaction.Click 'declare user input variables in this GroupBox2 Dim TransactionAmount As Double
I need to write and read data from a RS232 port. On the RS232 port there is a RFID Card reader-Writer connected. So I need to send hex codes to the device, and have to poll every 1sec if there is a card in the system. If there is a card I need to read the info that is on the card. My biggest problem is I think is that I am not sure how many characters there will be in return after the read command (maybe it is always the same length this I am not sure). What is the right way to read-write to the com port. So I always got the same result and not skipping a code.
I'm having difficulty figuring out how to run different programs with my VB program. Using Excel and other MS office programs is easy enough since I just add in the relevant COMs, but I can't for the life of me find out how to run other programs. I promise I spent many hours searching before bothering you kind folks here! I'd think this is a common issue so maybe I haven't been searching for the right thing.how to write code that will control and read data from applications.I know you can do "Process.Start" to open any application, and it looks like there are ways to determine the controls available on an open application, but I can't figure out how to do it. Is this possible? Or do I have to import a .dll file for every program I want to control? Or are both possible?
I have a .dll file ( MySql.Data.dll ) that I'd like to be able to open, view and possibly edit the database but I can't find any examples or documentation on doing so.
i'm trying to read from a file and copy the text into a 2d array withought the selected item from a list box then rewrite the file from the array into the text file. however it writes a single part of the array times the variable count when i write back to the csv file. within the array everything is correct its only when i rewrite to the file is when the problems occur.
I am struggling with vb.net. I can read from a file but not able to establish a writing object. what I have so far is this. Imports System Imports System.IO Imports System.Text PublicClass EuroConverter PrivateSub Button1_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button1.Click [Code] .....
I have a DB stored on our internal site and I want to read/write this file as it's updated. How do I download the file, then upload it after changes. Here is what I know about the link
Protocol: HyperText Transfer Protocol with Privacy Type: XML Document Address: [URL]
I am writing an app that does part of what another app does (I have no access to the source for the other app other than to see Wireshark output.)
I need to send a broadcast over the LAN and then parse the results. However, the sending of the broadcast seems to be code that is direct to the LAN connection, as in it doesn't seem to write to a standard IP/port combo.
I see apps like Raw Ether that do this at a cost of hundreds of dollars.
Is there some way to not have to buy 3rd party stuff to do this in VS2011 w/ VB.net?
I am working on a program with multiple collections related to one another for a school project. Each collection needs to have its own defined properties and have the objects written (1 per line) to a text file.
I have all of that working.
When reading the comma-separated line from the file, I want to place one of the properties of the object in a listbox (so that all the objects' names will show up in the listbox). I think I have this part figured out...
My problem is that when you click on the name in the listbox, I would like multiple text boxes to be populated with the appropriate, corresponding properties of the particular object in the collection...is there a way for this to be done?
then i need to read in a file into an array on the structure above, and pretend this is the file which has 3 people
george 45 m usa
[code]....
so basically i dont get how to read in a file then put it in the array in that structure then make it into a csv file?and whats the difference between streamreader and streamwriter?
i've download the 101 Visual Basic and C# Code Samples from downloads/details.aspx?familyid=08E3D5F8-033D-420B-A3B1-3074505C03F3&displaylang=en i was going to learn "VB.NET - Data Access - Read and Write Images from a Database" from that 101. the program is written in 2003 the conversion of the problem to 2005 and 2008 failed.
I'm looking at an old web app I wrote and it is taking about an hour to read 4500 records from a DataTable so it can write them to a CSV file.
The DataTable contains... 376 columns
At least, I think that's what Excel's NL column converts to. I just looked up the column count now and had no idea there were so many. Our software vendor hasn't realized the value of dynamic sql statements for this process, so every software "upgrade" just keeps adding more columns rather than only selecting the ones needed. I cannot alter the SQL statement that generates the data Depending on the data type, the data needs to be formatted in a specific format Data does contains special characters, such as commas The slow part is reading the data. Getting the data from the SQL server and writing it to a CSV is fast.
Here's the code. Forgive the mess, I wrote it back when I didn't know what I was doing and when I still was working in VB
Function ReadDataTableForCSV(dt as DataTable) Dim sb = New StringBuilder() Dim dataTypes As New Dictionary(Of String, Integer)
