I am new to the forum and would like some guidance on how I can achieve the following. I would like to read data from a text file after which I want to do a simple calculation that totals one of the columns.
I have already been able to read the text file into a text box but firstly I'm not quite sure if this method of using the text box is appropriate and secondly how do I sum a column of data?
i have a text file which contains lines like this:

The red colour column is X and green colour column is Y I wanted to replace Column X values with X1....Xn and Column Y values with Y1.
I have two text files, the first text file has two columns separated by a space (" ") and the second text file only has one column.
The column 1 in text file 1 and text file 2 match albeit in different order, what I'm trying to achieve is for every field in column 1 text file 2 I want to search for column 1 in text file 1 and display the matching column 2 field in column 2 text file 2.

He's very happy to be safe and.sound at home, with his wife. With that data, i need to print the length of each word in the file and the total number of words in the file. This code places the numbers in the data array when there is not any text in the file, i.e. when there are no headers. I would like to place the headers in another array, and then have the numbers in the array as in the code above.

I have a text document that contains a bunch of data sets. However before each data set there is a number surrounded by brackets. I need to go instance by instance of brackets and pull the number between the brackets and the lines after the brackets until the next bracket. Here is an example of the text file that contains the data. I know how to read from a text document, do substring, do contain function, etc... I just am extremely stumped on how to do this. Notice how different sections have a different amount of lines therefore a reading a fixed number of lines is not an option.

Some of the columns contain date information, which are read in fine (usually as a string "2/20/2011" or so), but the headers of those columns are read in as a blank "". The headers for all the other columns read in fine, but not for the date containing columns.
