Reference A Form Created From A Template?

Mar 17, 2010

I have a VB.NET App that creates forms from a template.I am having problems getting them to communicate with each other.Is it possible to send data from one textbox in the first instance to the same textbox in another instance.EG

Names By Letter.
Dim NewNameWindow As New FormNameWindow()
NewNameWindow .Text = "Starts With *"
NewNameWindow .Show()

Where * would be the letter you click on.Lets say i put the name in the wrong window by mistake - is it possible to send that text to the correct form.

How To Reference Form From Class That Was Created In New Thread

Feb 14, 2006

I have an app (vb.net) that sues multi threading and have tow problems.

1. The program is used for trading currency markets and mointers prices all day. When a signal is generated it wil place a trade in a new thread. In the new thread it checks to see if a trade is on already and if so it will not place another trade.The problem is it can be too fast and place another trade before the server has processed the first trade. So trade count returns 0. As the system watches 6 accounts I can not just pause the other thread to make sure it has finished before trying ot place another trade.How to i check to make sure the first thread is finished so when i check for trade count it retuns 1?

2.The new thread is inside a class and has a logging class as well. The problem is writing to the text box on the main thread. As the logging thread is created in the new thread it has no access to the textbox. I have tried using invoke but it still does not write to text box as it does not exist in the new thread.How do i reference a form from a class that was created in a new thread?

Created Using A SharpDevelop Template "Misc>>Empty Resource File?

Feb 6, 2012

Is there a way to directly access a string in a .resx? I have several different projects, and the .resx was created using a SharpDevelop template "Misc>>Empty resource file."

I've tried most of the methods online, such as:

= new ResourceManager ("ProjectEtc.resxFileName",
Assembly.GetExecutingAssembly)

but I receive the same error:Could not find any resources appropriate for the specified culture or neutral culture. Make sure "ProjectEtc.resxFileName.resources" was correctly embedded or linked into assembly "Project calling" at compile time...

It would appear that I need to convert my .resx too a .resource file, which I would rather not do.

Am I missing out on some steps by using a #develop template?

Wait a second... is this even the best way to store constant strings in .NET?

IDE :: ".." Folder Created By A T4 Template Led To Near-deletion Of All Code?

Jan 28, 2012

I was toying with a T4 template's FileManager object, when I seemed to create a ".." folder in my solution. I was puzzled, as this shouldn't really be a valid user-creatable folder,and obviously, no ".." folder was created in the file system. So, I deleted it from within the VS Solution Explorer.I watched for four minutes as the entire contents of my solution's parent directory got deleted.

Created A Data Reference To One Of Its Tables?

Sep 16, 2009

I have an application that I have in VB Express Edition 2008. I have an MS Access database (Access 2003) that I have created a data reference to one of its tables. The table contains 3 fields ID (Counter), Name and Price (text and double). When my form loads I simply want to read each record in the table and create a variable with the same name as the product name and assign it a value the same as the price in the table. So, record 1 in my table has Prod1 in the name field and 2.59 in the price field. I would like these variables to be created when the form loads and be available until the user exits the form.

It seems simple but I cannot find reference to a similar situation anywhere I have looked.

In the Form_Load routine the following line was generated via the designer:

Me.PricerTableAdapter.Fill(Me.PTODataSet.Pricer) assist if possible.

Reference Dynamically Created Control In Asp.net 3.5 With VB?

Mar 20, 2011

I'm writing a program that inserts controls onto a webform dynamically. Depending on a variable, I add either a textbox, a set of radio buttons, or a set of checkboxes. Later, after a user clicks a submit button I need to use the controls to determine if the user is submitting the correct answer, but when I try to reference the id of a control, I get "txtAnser is not declared. It may be inaccessible due to it's protections level. Here is the .aspx page (it's the standard content page of a master page):

Reference TabPage Created At RunTime

Jan 16, 2012

Been searching a trying examples for a couple of days and always fall back to the "null reference" error on this one. I have a set of instructions coming from a SQL database and the number of instructions is a variable. Therefore, I have a TabControl which I add TabPages to at RunTime depending on the number of instructions there are. The TabPages are then created with the names; Step1, Step2, Step3, etc.Each TabPage is made with the same controls and all of the controls are named the same from page to page (e.g. "instr" is the name of a TextBox control that exists on every TabPage).I can successfully create a GetControl method that will return the correct TabPage, but I cannot reference any controls on that TabPage.I can only change properties of the TabPage.If I try to reference a specific control on that TabPage, like the "instr" TextBox control, I get the null reference error.[code]

C# - Using Types In A T4 Template That Exist In The Same Project As The Template?

Aug 4, 2010

I'm working on my first T4 code generation tool to add some Stored Procedure helper code to my project. I've created custom types (e.g. StoredProcedure and StoredProcedureParameter to help with my code generation and have included the assembly and namespace references in my code:

<#@ template debug="false" hostspecific="false" language="VB" #>
<#@ output extension=".generated.vb" #>
<#@ assembly name="$(TargetPath)" #>
<#@ import namespace="StoredProcCodeGenerator" #>

This allows me to use my custom types in my T4 template code. However, because my custom types exist in the same project as the T4 template code, I can't recompile my project once I run the template code without restarting Visual Studio. This isn't very much fun.

I read a great article that addresses this exact issue by using the T4 Toolbox, but it's not working. Either I'm implementing the VolatileAssembly directive wrong or the T4 toolbox simply didn't get installed. I'm not sure that the toolbox got installed correctly (I'm using VS 2010 on Win XP).

Declaring A Object - Instance Of An Object To Be Created When A Form Loads Or Another Class Is Created

Oct 5, 2009

If you want a instance of an object to be created when a form loads or another class is created, you have two options:

Public class example

private IAmAObject As IAmAObject

public sub new()

[CODE]...

Or like this:

public class example

private IAmAObject as new IAmAObject

public sub new()

[CODE]...

I always use the first one. It's more type work but I think it's neater. How about you people and is there any real difference between the two?

Create A Template Of Data That Will Later Be Loaded Into Another Form?

Mar 10, 2009

I am designing a form that will create a template of data that will later be loaded into another form.From a menu command "Create New Template" I will need to ask how many Fields will be needed for the new template in an input box. If the user would input say 10, then I need to generate 10 labels, 10 text boxes, & 10 combo boxes. Each group (label, Text Box & Combo Box) on its own row on the form.I also want create the data mapping for each of them at this time.Once I have achieved this then I will add a form that will lookup the template name, and row count given from the above form via the database and load the required rows of items for further data entry.

Since I will have a MAX row limit I thought about designing a form using a Table Layout panel with 25 Rows and 5 columns then doing some sort of .visible true/false for the layout panel row after the user input of row/field quantities.Another question is resizing the form around only the visible rows.

VS 2010 Creating A Windows Form Template/library?

Feb 12, 2011

I have a project that will need several forms with a similar structure - a Data Grid View control, a few buttons and some textboxes. They are not similar enough to use just one form and change things programatically so I would like to create a "template" and add several copies of it into my project. My first attempts have failed miserably, ending up with lots of "conflicts" and "duplicate items".

So, how should I save a form from my existing project in such a way that I can then load in multiple copies (giving them suitably different names) without having name conflicts?

Access A Component In Form From A Thread Created In A Different Form?

Jun 18, 2011

I have 2 forms main_frm and copying_frm. In main_frm, there is a list view that is populated with file names. The user then clicks save and all the files in the list are copied to a folder that they choose using a folder browser dialog. When this happens, I do copying_frm.ShowDialog() to display the copying_frm. The copying_frm contains a progress bar and a cancel button. I can get the progress bar to indicate how much has been copied. But that freezes up the application. To get around this, I create a new thread (called copyingThread) that copies the files. When that thread runs though, it can't access the waitingList_lvw in main_frm. For example, in the function that the copyingThread executes, if I have this line of code: MsgBox(main_frm.waitingList_lvw.Items.Count.ToString()) the result is 0. Also, I don't get any errors and no files are copied. How do I access waitingList_lvw in main_frm from a thread called copyThread that was created in copying_frm?

VS 2010 Can't Seem To Get A Reference To Main Form From Sub Form

Jan 28, 2012

My app has a main form (it's the startup form). It includes a number of menu items which typically open modal sub forms. However there are 2 menu items which just need to open an Outlook Explorer calendar for the user to manipulate appointments. My VB6 version used hidden sub forms to do this and handle the subsequent interaction between the user and the Outlook objects in the Calendar. I need to stop the user interacting with the main form while the Outlook Explorer is open, ie as if the Explorer window were a modal sub-form to the main form. So I manually disable the main form while the Outlook activity is going on, then (try to) enable it when the user closes the Outlook Explorer window. Problem is I can't seem to get a reference to the main form from the sub form to do this, nor pick up an event in the main form which I could use to trigger the enabling of the main form.An alternative might be to delete the hidden sub forms & put all the code in the main form, but this would be quite ugly; I think I would need to maintain two parallel sets of Outlook objects at the top level in the main form for each of the two functions (a number of the Outlook objects are declared With Events). I would have to have for example mobjOutlookExplorerFunction1 and mobjOutlookExplorerFunction2.
