Process.start Access Denied - Create A User Account And Modify It's Registry Before The User Logs On The First Time
May 31, 2012I thought I postet this yesterday but I can't find my thread so if this is a duplicate please point me at the original one. Background: I need to create a user account and Modify it's registry before the user logs on the first time. Creating the account is done by using the Winnt provider (works great). To create the profile I'm trying to use Process.start to launch a process as the newly created user. With the use of loaduserprofile property the users profile gets created and i can do my regwrites without problem.

Jul 21, 2009i have a timer that counts down from 2 hours, its part of a 2 hour time limit for a computer. but if the application was to fail it would restart from 2 hours again. which isnt good, so it needs to restart where it left of. so far i have got it to save the current time on the countdown timer to a reg key. but i need to put that time back hope that made sense. here is the part of my code

Mar 11, 2011In all the years that I've been coding I have never come accross this issue or error. For the past 3 months I have been working on two separate apps. Initialy I started out with Win Vista and things were going great except for how slow my comp was running. So I reinstalled the Vista OS. Everything was going great until Mar 7th when this error just started occuring within my code.

TornadoApps/Swift Budget are strings created upon App install or first run of App in VB 2008.The User value along with 9 other values were all working fine prior to Mar 7th.Now this line along with many others like it with defferent strings and values were working just fine till this week. So i figured that I'd just upgrade to Win7 hoping that would fix it. IT didn't. So I reformatted and installed fresh Win7 and still have the error. So I have figured out that it isn't my OS. Cuase it was working in Vista then just quit working.

Nov 2, 2009how to read and write random access records in .NET. Now I know random access files are dead and the response on every query I found with google/bing/yahoo searches was don't use random access use Binary serialization but I can not. I have a situation where I need to read and modify 256 byte records in a file that is used by another application.
Now for a bit of background the file is made up of 27 fixed length records of 256 bytes. Each of the records has a separate structure consisting of 30-120 fields. The proplem I am having is I can create the record structures but when using the FileGet method I am receiving an error. Now I have found samples that showed the same format I am using that claim to work.
The error I am getting is Option Strict On disallows narrowing from type 'System.ValueType' to type 'ProgramName.ModuleName.Record' in copying the value of 'ByRef' paramater 'Value' back to the matching argument.
The basic layout (simplified) is as follows:

Now the overloads for FileGet show all of the data types including Object. But I have tried various methods to retreive the 256 byte record but without success. Do I have to actually read each of the several hundred fields of the structure one by one? Or am i overlooking something (I have been known for this in the past)
Or (and I'll kick myself if this is the only way) do I just have to set option strict Off in the module and the code as above will actually work.
I would love to be able to just ditch the random access file but I have to keep it for compatibility with several other applications at this time.

Sep 27, 2011So I am using a user to run the following code that is a member of the "User" group on a Windows 7, x64 machine. I am trying to use impersonation (by logging in as a user that is part of the Administrator group) to allow the current user to read from the registry. For some reason the login happens successfully but even though WindowsIdentity.GetCurrent() is returning the user that is part of the Administrator group I am still getting an error message saying "Requested registry access is not allowed". May 4, 2011I'm trying to write a console application that can modify registry subkeys on remote pc's in the same network. I have it working in my own environment but when I install on the customer machines I'm getting unauthorized access when it hits the OpenRemoteBaseKey. The security settings in the application properties is set to full trust application so I'm not sure why it won't work.
I'm using Visual Studio 2010 and first I just installed it on the customer machine and when it wouldn't work I ran the source code in Visual Studio 2005 which is on the customer machine but got same results.I can run the app directly on the remote machine and it will change the registry subkeys as directed, I just can't do it remotely. RemoteRegistry service is started. Both machines are logged in as administrators.

This occurs in my vb.net application when application is run under an account called OPER in the USERS group. The application :
1/is on my PC's hard drive, its not a web app or on a network share
2/is launched via a desktop click
3/ has a manifest specifying executionlevel "AsInvoker"
It does not occur when the Application is run as an Administrator. It does not occur if I read the value with a non .NET program when logged in as OPER whch makes me think it is a .NET problem not a registry permissions problem. Examining "Effective Permissions" shows that my OPER login has query value permission.I need the application to be able to read the key like the non .NET application while running at USERS level.
VS 2005 Retrieve "Last Write Time" Of A Registry Subkey

Im a bit of a beginner in vb.net but I really have done an exhaustive search and cant find anything I can make any sense of. I can open subkeys and get values using .GetValue("ValueName"), but as last write time isnt a value inside the key, this doesn't here.
I have had a look around and it seems in VB6 RegOpenKeyEx was used (to open the key and get a handle), then RegQueryInfoKey was used to get the last write time (of the subkey via its handle) BUT i cant get this to work. I have tried entering the following

Apr 26, 2010I'm writing a program to search files.The result is saved in a text file.Everything it's working fine, but when I say to look for files/folders in C:* the process takes long time and in task manager it's displayed as "Not Responding", this is not true because I see that CPU and RAM are working with this process.I've disabled in DEBUG OPTIONS the line "ContextSwitchDeadlock" just to prevent the error message "this operation require long time ... bla bla bla".Is there any way to display a progress bar or something like that that shows the program is running and it isn't "hang"?Here's my code (in red the line where the program hangs):

Dec 11, 2011I wrote a program to download and play AVI files the files are large in size and long time wise. I have the files playing as they are being downloaded but i can't see how long the file is or seek reliably. i was reading that the AVI headers are in the last 512kb of the AVI file *why would't they put it at the start* lol so my question is is there a way to download the last 512Kb of the file i'm downloading. i have the Bytes Read and Length of the file while its downlaoding i'm just not sure where to go from there, or how to do it atleast. If i had the length in time of the Avi file i could set the trackbar to be able to seek properly. or if someone has an idea how i could get the time of the video by using fps and some math i could prob do it that way too but idk how i would tell how i can find how many kb are in the fps i'm sure it changes so think that way is't going to be reliable. how to get the last 512kb would be the best option not sure if it can be done even.
