I thought you could use a structure as a container. I have line_1 with a line of data read in from a file. I only want to Look in position 1 of the line and position 8 for 9 and position 31 for 11. If I create a line_2 with the parts broken out for pieces that I want to look at then I could use a with statement right?

I've had a bit of a look around the net and on the forums but I've yet to find an answer to my question. I've got Visual Basic 2008 Express and I'm trying to write some registry entries, I can write strings fine just using

Trying to read a registry key that has a name and a value associated with it. However, the value name doesn't have a name, per say, but it does have a name of (Default).
Anyway, the following lines of code return a value of Nothing.
Dim ReadValue As Object = My.Computer.Registry.GetValue _
("RegKeyName", "(Default)", Nothing)
'Try to use "(Default)" for the name.
However, if I pass empty quotes, as the ValueName, it returns the correct value for the value name. I spent quite alot of time before even thinking of trying it with empty quotes.
Dim ReadValue As Object = My.Computer.Registry.GetValue _
("RegKeyName", "", Nothing)
'Passing empty quotes for the name.
Is passing the empty quotes the correct way of getting the values from the (Default) value names? I don't want to assume this is going to work in all occasions only to get tripped up later.
I'm creating a registry key in my installation project for the install path. This works great... except that I need my string value name to be the default in the registry. So, if I look in my registry, I have (default) with no value and Path with my value. How do I fill in that (default)?

View 1 RepliesBasically the problem i have is i have made a program that creates and installs a registry key which changes default drive icons etc.
But registry key directories need double backward slashes in the directories, e.g.
What i recieve;
C:exampleicon.ico
What i need;
C:\example\icon.ico
I was thinking sending the directory i recieve to another textbox and replacing '' with '\'. Is this possible?
I need to change a value which is stored under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREAPP_NAME. It is not possible to use .NET's registry functions, since they have drastic restrictions. [Code] Unfortunately, I get a NullReferenceExeption when I try to set the value. What should I do? I have imported Microsoft.Win32 and RegistryKey doesn't accept any constructor.

The MaskedEditExtender control that I am using is set up for a MaskType="DateTime" and the AcceptAMPM="true" but I need to know how a user can change the am/pm without having to type in A for AM and P for PM? Is there a way I can add arrows or something to this control so that it is more user-friendly when changing from AM to PM? My users aren't going to know that they need to type out the value for it to change.

We have a VBScript that launches an Access app that connects via ODBC to SQL Server - wouldn't you know the server name is changing.
Is it possible to use VBScript to modify the ODBC information in the registry to point to the new server? Basically changing one specific value for one specific key. Am I better off deleteing the ODBC key and readding it from scratch?

View 6 RepliesI am working on a app that will monitor the registry for changes to [ProviderOrder] in [SYSTEMCurrentControlSetControlNetworkProviderOrder].
I have it 90% done with this
Imports System.Management
Imports Microsoft.Win32
Module Module1
Dim Watcher As ManagementEventWatcher
Dim Hive As RegistryKey = Registry.LocalMachine
[Code] .....
If I change [ProviderOrder.test] the app tells me the value was changed and corrects it. But it does the correction twice (because of UpdateProviderOrder changing the value). I thought that using RemoveHandler and AddHandler would take of that.

I have Excel 2003 and 2007 loaded on my computer. When I open an Excel file, it is defaulting to 2003. How do I check to see what the default program is for opening xls files and change this to 2007 in my code? I have already done the following manually:
1-Open My Computer
2-Go to Tools --Folder options
3-Click the File Types tab

I'm developing an application and when the application is open, I need to handle the mailto protocol. I'm thinking the best way is have the app change the HKEY_CLASSES_ROOTmailtoshellopencommand registry key when it opens and change it back when it closes.
