I need to place some custom elements inside that user can modify in that canvas.
I am looking for a VB control that operates as a more or less transparent or semi-transparent ruler or bar that can be scrolled up and down the form over an invoice or letter, so that the user can see what is under the ruler/bar and thus stop scrolling when he reaches a certain point.
To give a bit more detail of what I am looking for - such a bar is used when someone is setting the focus on a line of a long list of items so that they know where they are all the time. Most people would use a ruler on a paper list to keep track of how far they have progressed down the list. It would be nice though to have the "ruler" or bar as semi-transparent so that the user can see under where he is at on the list or form.
I have an advanced word processor and I need to add a ruler. I have searched the web and cant seem to find just the ruler control in inches.

After scouring the inter-webs for info on printing in vb.net, it seems to me that it's pretty difficult.
My question is, is there a simple way to print something that is in a RichTextBox control?
I am working in vb2008. I understand how to set a richtextbox's selectedstart property to a text block using .find. I would like to know how to tell the richtextbox to scroll to the selected position based upon the find operation and show its position at the top of the window. I would like to pass text blocks into my richtextbox control and have the control automatically scrolll to that position if the text block is found.
View 2 RepliesI was checking out the internet to get some information on VScrollBar control in VB.NET, however I can't find any useful information on what I am trying to do, as I have never worked with VScrollBar before.
What I am trying to do is use a VScrollBar control to handle scrolling of two Richtextboxes (i.e. synchronized scrolling) because each line of richtextbox1 is associated with the corresponding line of richtextbox2.
Here's my situation: I have a control with motion graphics (for the sake of simplicity, a 'video player' control) in my project. Think of a PictureBox with constantly-changing images. In front of this will sit a second control (such as a second PictureBox of the same dimensions). The topmost PictureBox will be drawn to in its Paint event.
I need to draw very few elements, and the bottom control is updated much more frequently than I need for this drawing. So these elements are drawn to the topmost control. Think of a news broadcast, where they have live video in the background, with a news channel logo, news ticker, and sometimes gradient visible in front.
I'm trying to create that 'foreground' control, and the closest I believe I have gotten so far is the following:

The 'Opacity' property in the code above is a sort of "scaling factor." The image drawn to the top control may, in different parts of the image, have any alpha value from full transparent to a full 255. This 'Opacity' property is applied to the entire image being drawn, scaling the alpha values of each pixel.

View 4 RepliesI have read and played with code that streams output to a richtextbox but that is runningit from cmd.exe but I run kix32 programs like anything.kix using commmand line kix32 c:anything.kix and it can be run from a *.cmd file as well.
why havent' experts made a toolbox item/control that is say called console? like they seem to have many others dialogbox - browse box etc...? It has been years since VB.net has been out. why why dont they make one??huh? I have looked all over net and it ant no easy job either.

View 9 RepliesI have just turned to using VB.net and would like to know why when I load an RTF (with tables in a 9x9 cell format) all appears in a 1x9 format...i.e. instead of loading the tables (some are side by side), they load up in series (below each other).
My simple line of code on a button is:

I am using a RichTextBox control and a Socket Class. When I use the AppendText function in Form_load it get's added, but not in the event when text is received.

I am currently working on a code editor program for Linden Scripting Language (Second Life Code) and I am having a lot of trouble using the Syntax Highlighting class which i have found on a website [URL] I dont understand, the Class inherits the System.Windows.Forms.RichTextBox so it should change the color of the text if i type one of the keywords shouldnt it and i should not have to do any codeing for the RTB (or do i?)

... where the left six characters are an offset and each xx represents one character and the string of cs on the right are the actual characters.
I've learned that I have to keep control characters out of that string of cs or the display gets messed up. I've been using this code and it works fine (when it's not commented out). (binbuf is a Byte array)

Instead of 'appearing' in my RichTextBox line by line, it waits until the entire process is completed and then it attachs it to my RTB.

I am now developing a WinForms app with a custom WPF RichTextBox. My whole reason for doing this is to use the out-of-the-box spellchecker. I need my RichTextBox to expand and collapse vertically as the text is changed. The elementhost will also have to resize to allow the whole RTB to display on-screen.

I suspect that the LoadFile method cannot read the TextBoxes in my RTF file, or maybe i'm missing something. Attached is the file i'm working on.
i'am having trouble in making a spell checker for vb.net richtextbox control.I have made a form with richtextbox control and a panel control. I have put a listbox control in the panel control and filled with certain words. What iam able to do is whenever i select a word and click a button the panel appears just below the word (using get position from char) and display the choice. What iam not able to do is:
1) Select each word one-by-one whenever i click a button say F1 - I know keypress event but how do i select the words through keypress. I know they are separated by spaces but iam not familiar as to how to take advantage of it. The major problem being that there can be 2-3 words together sometimes colored as red. Eg: What i want is when i press F1 first time "this" is selected, next time "is" is selected and next time "nice car color" is selected. The two things are spaces and red color but i don't get anything from it.
2) Display the panel correctly within the main form's border. Right now when i select the last word of the sentence some part of panel disappears as it hides behind the main form. Eg - only 1/4th appears and rest hides. I can't find a way to limit it from moving when it has reached the main form size. I want to constrain it between top-bottom and left-right border of main form.
