"SORT" Properties .NET Not Working?

Sep 29, 2009

As new to VB.Net, I am having an issue related to combo box searching functionality. In VB.NET, the multiple character typing searching is not happening in ComboBox when its style is "DropdownList" type. But in VB 6.0 it is working fine if we set "SORT" properties is "True"

I need full typing option activate for the combo box. say for I type India then it shoud select India..not the item starts with a as its the last character.

Using Sort Properties In Combobox?

Jul 16, 2011

I have a ComboBox with several items from C1 --> C999. And I would like to ascend the combobox to be easy to manage, so I set True for Sorted Properties. However, the problem comes after that is for example, it shows C11 --> C110 --> C12, etc. I believe because it counts from left to right. So how can I solve this problem.

List.Sort Not Quite Working With Strings?

Feb 13, 2011

This is my first time posting here although I have been lurking for quite some time. I'm stuck with a problem I have seen before and never solved: I have a long list (~23,000) of alphanumeric strings that I'm reading into a List(of String) from a text file, and then sorting. When I iterate through the list after sorting, it appears to be correctly sorted EXCEPT that the element that was originally at the beginning of the list is now at the end (and it should be somewhere in the middle after the sort)Here is a sample input:

PRE1-PRE2_00015648
PRE1-PRE2_00015649
PRE1-PRE2_00015650

Sorting - List.sort Not Working?

Apr 3, 2009

I have a slightly odd problem that I think is most likely due to an act of foolishness on my part, but for the life of me I (and other members of my team) can't see it.I have an object that contains a generic list property which I would like to sort. I have written a comparer class to do this for me and I am calling it in the following way:baseObject.ListOfThings.Sort(new ThingComparer()I have debugged into my compare function and it is returning the right values. However After the sort call, the list remains unchanged. Have I missed something obvious, or is there something else I need to do.EDIT: Yes I was being a fool, and the property returning a list was recreating it from scratch each time it was accessed

Way To Sort A Table But Couldn't Get Code Working

Jun 13, 2011

I've tried google a way to sort a table but couldn't get my code working. My program lets the user input enter information such as first name and last name in textboxes, once done they click on update button(so far everything works). On the top right of the form it has a Combobox and it displays a list of all the names of poeple the User inputed... but it shows it in the order the user inputed.I want to have a sort button so that way when the user clicks on "sort" it will alphabetically sort the msql table by last name and reupdate that on the Combobox (most importantly save msql with the new order of names)

VS 2005 Datagridview Sort Not Working / Wrong Filling Cells?

Nov 8, 2011

I'm working with datagridview.I found an example on the web about creating a datagridview: firs I make my array containing data, then I make a datatable from array, then I make datagridview from datatable.I don't know if it's the correct way but it seems work.In a column I make random numbers for test: for example I have on column "Time" these values: 1155, 1725, 584, 996, 1352.Then I try to sort with code when I press pushbutton: it doesn't work because I have the values:1155, 1352, 1725, 1758 (until now it seems to work correctly), but then I have 584 and 996 values: wrong!Ok, let's try with the manual sorting: same result.I filled cells with "integer" values, let's try using strings, then I used "value.tostring" same result.I also tryed to fill strings with blankspaces to obtain same length, but nothing changed. "1155", "1352", "1725", "1758", " 584", " 996".Then I tryed to fill with "0" values:"1155", "1352", "1725", "1758", "0584", "0996".The same. How can I fill cells values?

Working With Properties In Custom Controls?

Feb 1, 2011

I am trying to learn how to create Windows Forms custom controls in VB.Net by creating a .Net version of an old control I created in VB6. On this control, I have a UserControl with a Label (lblCaption), and several of the properties I add to the control should be passed to the label. This is the code I tried for the ForeColor property:

Code:
Protected mcolForeColor As Color = Color.FromKnownColor(KnownColor.ButtonHighlight)
Public Overrides Property ForeColor() As Color
Get

[code]....

When I change the ForeColor on the control in my test project, lblCaption does change to the color I selected; however, when I run the application, the label changes back to the default (button highlight) color, and the value of the property is also reverted back when I return to the form designer. What would be the proper way to implement the ForeColor property on a custom control?

.net - A Null Refrence Exception While Working With Properties

At the line If facilityForm.IsOnPrimaryView Then, I get a NullReferenceException. Do you know the reason?

Also, I cannot create a new instance of the facilityForm, since I need to work with its singleton, although when I add a new instance of frmFacility, the IsOnPrimaryMode is set to false while it should be set to true in the gotoday sub from frmFacility.

Working With Form Tansparancy And BackColor Properties?

May 22, 2009

I am in thinking about building a small app. Its indended to be a screen grabber with a difference. The window form is see through by setting the Transparancy and BG properties to equivalant values. The TopMost property of the form is set to true. The concept is that the form is placed over the area of the screen that you would like to capture. As the form is see-through you can adjust the form around the area you would like to capture.Once you have done that, its just a matter of click a toolbar button eigther save it to file or copy to the clipbaord and placed in an image array.

Tipicaly it should have some of the functioning of a digital camera which at your lesure allows to view images seperatly in the array and deside wether to keep them or delete them. What would be the best control to use as the capture control? ie. The form itself or an Picturebox that is also seethrough? If the image carn't be crabbed that way, then it should be possible to read the coordinates of the PictureBox (top, left, width and heigh) relative to the underlying image on the underlying app. Than once the coordinates are known it should be possible to copy that rectangle of the screen?

User Control Properties - Finalize My Design Time Properties Grid

Apr 27, 2011

I'm making a control and I am trying to finalize my design time properties grid. I have several List(of Class) items as public properties and when I click on the design time menu (while testing the control) there is the word "Collection" and a button with an ellipsis (...) that brings up a neat pop up with the buttons Add/remove and all of the public properties of the collection's class on the right hand side. Basically for a non-collection instance of a class (with public properties) I'd like a similar button to show up. I know I could put all of the properties in the main control class and group them, but I like the pop up box feature. Anyway to duplicate this? (think font grid item etc.)

VS 2010 Express - PictureBox Design Properties Box Shows Properties That Cannot Be Accessed?

Mar 5, 2012

In the form design I set up a TableLayoutPanel, 20x20 cells and in cell (1,1) a PictureBox (called Target) containing the image of a small target. The properties box for Target shows some very promising properties, Column and Row - and if you overwrite the values in the properties box, the PictureBox obligingly shifts to the corresponding cell position in th design. However in VB it is not possible to refer to Me.Target.Row or .Column - neither appears during coding in the menu of properties, and deliberately coding either of them produces an error like

Error 1 'row' is not a member of 'System.Windows.Forms.PictureBox'.

1. Why does the properties box show properties that cannot be altered programmatically?

2. How can my program move Target around in the TableLayoutPanel?

Array.Sort(array) - Specify A Numeral Sort Based On The First Character In The String?

Jan 29, 2009

Here I am creating a temp single dimensional array, merging my 2d array into it, and then attempting to sort it by Rolls(N,1), which is a integer 1-6, Everything seems to be working right with the exception of this.

RollsCC.Sort(RollsCC, 0, 1)

How would one specify a numeral sort based on the first character in the string? im aware that I am switching Rolls(n,1) and Rolls(n,0) information during the sort.

Set The Transparent Property Via Label Properties Properties Not Via Code?

Jan 16, 2009

I'm working on a Hazardous Materials label printing program. One of the options is to do an "NFPA" label. Since there are 4 values required with 4 or 6 options, the ratings are entered via radio buttons in a group box. That's working okay. I display values in the NFPA diamond as they're entered: left quadrant blue, top quadrant red, left yellow, bottom red. I'm having trouble with the label in which the rating will be displayed on top of a jpg diamond for the white. In this quadrant the text can be up to 4 characters. I can accept the text going into an adjacent block a little, but the corners of the label overlap into another quadrant/color. I reduced the font size which solved the overlap problem but the font is then too small and looks terrible. I tried to make the background of the label transparent to let the color come through correctly but that's not a valid value for label.background. I'm figuring that the transparent background is the best solution. What can I use that will accept a transparent background so the color shows through?

I'm trying to set the transparent property via label properties properties, not via code. Here's the code if it makes any difference:

Public Class NFPA
Private Sub Button1_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button1.Click
Close()
End Sub
