I had one problem when query in VB.net. It fails at first time after SQL server restart, the fail message is "timeout expired". I know that LINQ queries are deferred and only executed when the query is enumerated, but I'm having trouble figuring out exactly when that happens.Certainly in a For Each loop, the query would be enumerated.What's the rule of thumb to follow? I don't want to accidentally enumerate over my query twice if it's a huge result.
For example, does System.Linq.Enumerable.First enumerate over the whole query? I ask for performance reasons. I want to pass a LINQ result set to an ASP.NET MVC view, and I also want to pass the First element separately. Enumerating over the results twice would be painful.It would be great to turn on some kind of flag that alerts me each time a LINQ query is enumerated. That way I could catch scenarios when I accidentally enumerate twice.

I have sql query that will get a jobname where status is equal to 'FOR KE' and I have multiple users that will query that.Now, what if two queries was executed at the same time? Will the two users get the same jobname? How can I avoid that?

I have an untyped dataset returned from my WebService. The user wants to dynamically construct a query referencing tables and columns and specifying values to test for.I have looked at Lambda Expressions and the Expressions.Expression Namespace. I think these provide the answer I'm looking for, but I'm not certain how to go about contructing the linq expressions to extract the datarows I'm looking for.
I plan on limiting the result to one datatable that the query will result in and i"ll provide the joins from the user's constructs.For a simple example I have a DataTable with (n) rows called "Table", and in it there is a computed column called "b_IsActive" that has the expression "Convert(IsActive, 'System.Boolean')". The user wants to retrieve all rows in "Table" where field "b_IsActive" is true.
I've created an SQL Query using the query builder. In the query builder, you can test the query by clicking the button "Execute Query", and entering the desired values in the parameter fields.
My query returns the correct results when I do this, but when I seemingly pass the same values at runtime, I get 0 records returned.The query is designed such that you can pass nulls if you don't wish to filter data by that particular parameter.

In the query builder "Execute Query" dialog, I enter a value I know that the db contains in the "Size" field, "1/1/1900" & "1/1/2199" in Dates A & B, respectively, and nulls for all other fields. This returns 1 record, which is just as I expected. It works correctly.But when I pass the same values into the method created by the designer, I get 0 records returned. I can't figure out where the problem lies. Even if I enter nulls for all fields other than the dates, it returns 0. This tells me that the dates are causing the problem, but I can't figure out why, because I'm passing strings equivalent to what I entered in the query builder.
I have this situation where I have a SqlDatasource control and the select query is like:

The source of @date is a label with the text: 2009-05-29 12:06:00 I get the following error when I run the query:

I tried using convert(datetime, @date), as well as different date/time formatting of the label itself. Everytime I get the error.
However, when I run the query in the management studio like:

I found out that the @date is parsed as 05-29-2009 01:30:00 TT I don't know where the TT is coming from? And I'm sure SQL Server wouldn't be able to handle it?

View 2 RepliesI have an ASP.NET application with a SQL Server back end. I am storing all my dates in UTC format and doing the appropriate conversions to the local time zone of the browser viewing it. One of the pages asks for a start date and end date (no times).
I am taking the start date and setting the time to 00:00:00 hours (midnight) and I'm taking the End time and adding a time of 23:59:59, so that the date range covers the whole day. Now what I'm trying to do is do a SQL query to do a search for records in this date range. The problem is, the data in SQL is in UTC time and the user is typing their dates and times in their local date and times. My quickest solution was to convert the date and time to UTC, then search the records. However, by doing this, I am to believe ASP.NET converts the given time and date to UTC based on the server time zone. How can I convert a date and time to UTC time based on the time zone of the user?
I am connecting to an Access database and using a parameter query with the LIKE operator to return all rows that match query. The string to search for is taken from a Textbox

I am trying to run a query an Access db from VB. The general query which I want to run is

I have to join two main tables, and I need to filter the results by elements in an ASP.NET web form. These filters are created on the fly so I have to use a lot of where extensions to filter the query. I want to execute the query with as optimized SQL as possible.
I am first doing a simple join between TW_Sites and TW_Investigators. Then there are two sub-tables that are involved. TW_InvestigatorToArea and TW_InvestigatorToDisease. While most of the where clauses are working fine, I have found a performance issue that won't be an issue right now, but will be an issue as the table gets bigger.
The arrays DiseaseCategories and DiseaseAreas would be the results of a CheckBoxList result.

View 2 RepliesI've got confused at the moment.I've got one database to developed for MLM (Multi level marketing) company.so, there's one Members database.. each member have unique ID called membercode.. and all members can members under them.. can make 2 members down to 1 member.. all members are added in same table named "tbMembers" and for each member there's a "parentID" where I add member's membercode under whome that member is?.. right?
Now what's the matter is .. I want a SQL Query which can go under and under.. like 'John Doe' having two members under him named 'Suzan' and 'Ellie' and 'Suzan' is also having 2 members under her.. and same for Ellie. and for example.. 'John Doe' having about 300 members in his down line? All members are making transactions.. like they purchase product and Invoices are being generated (invoices tables have 'memberID'). I have 7 company Divisions that sit in an access database.I then use this list to populate two comboboxes in my windows form.However I get a syntax error in my SQL Query if the Division name is more than one word.For example in my access database I have two columns one is a status column and the other is a division column. If for example the Division is called 'Corporate' the status column is called 'Status Corporate' and the division column is called 'Corporate'.The SQL query works fine in this scenario.However if I have a Division that is more than one word, lets say 'Operations Division' I get an error in my SQL Query that says -

I want to query an access database with variable data defined by the user. The "Search" criteria would be in a textbox. I made a query like

and referring to this query as

I was trying to us multiple values in a string like "1, 3, 5" but I can't seem to get that working either so I am trying to use just a single value now. Can anyone help me? "Yes I am new to this"
The idea with this form is to add the futures which is calculated when the button is pushed but I need the list to update every time and show the values each time to which the previous value is added to the new calculation, e.g. of what it should look like in listbox:
