Save Rich Text Formatting As String?
Apr 5, 2010
I have a rich text box in my form, and formatting will be applied to the text.
I need it to save the text with its formatting as a string (to be entered into a database)
My problem is, my current code only takes the text unformatted, so when the form reloads, the text is plain

I have a number of text boxs that gather data and put it in a combined string in a rich text box that displays all of the collected data. Some of the text boxes require data pasted from other sources however when that data is then copied from the rich text box to the clipboard through a routine, it loses its formatting. home to maintain the original formating?

I have some WORD files, which are formatted using bold, italic and colors etc. I want to copy entire content of word file into SQL Server table using Visual Basic.NET.I have a RichTextBox on my form and used datatype nvarchar(max) to store Unicode Hindi data. Everything is working fine... data insert and retrieve is OK, but formatting is GONE.
Below is the code to insert.
cmd.CommandText = "Update tbl_Camps SET CampName = '" & StrConv(Trim(txtCampName.Text), VbStrConv.ProperCase) & "', CampVenue = '" & StrConv(Trim(txtCampVenue.Text), VbStrConv.ProperCase) & "', CityID = '" & cboCity.SelectedValue & "', FromDate = '" & Format(dtpFromDate.Value.Date, "dd-MMM-yyyy") & "', ToDate = '" & Format(dtpToDate.Value.Date, "dd-MMM-yyyy") & "', LiveDVpkt = '" & txtDVpkt.Text & "', <strong>CampNotes = N'" & rtbCampNotes.Text & "'</strong> Where CampID = '" & frmMain.lblCampID.Text & "'"

I'm reading in values from an array of arbitrary size into a text box. Easy enough. However, in my application, certain values of the data are unusable and I'd like to give a visual warning to the user when this occurs. Whenever the data
is either negative or greater than 10, I'd like to display that value in red. How can I do this with a RTB?

Are there standard controls for formatting, which I can add to the form or the toolbar? I mean font selector, text size selector, bold button, and so on. OR do I have to create them myself. If they are standard,l how do I add them? I can't find any such thing in the toolbox.

I have created an instance of a Rich Text Box:
Dim RichText As New RichTextBox()
I was able to write to it using:
RichText.AppendText("Text")
I was able to save the document to a file:
RichText.SaveFile("C:TempRTDoc1.rtf")
What I cannot find is how to set the font, and font size. IntelliSense doesn't help. Everything is "read only", meaning retrieve a current value.

I have some VB .NET software that interfaces to a load of old (but sound) COM objects. The VB provides a GUI for the COM objects, part of which consists of setting various options on the COM objects - several of which relate to string formatting.I have a simple pair of VB .NET functions that convert basic %f, %d, %g formats to/from .NET equivalents using a large select case covering specific common strings, but they don't cover all formats.[code]Before I start diving in and making it more versatile with some parsing, does anyone know of a class (eg VB or C# .NET) that provides a decent ready-made implementation? Or perhaps some regexp wizadry could be used?

I'm Making a Simple syntax highlighter and I'm Doing the highlighting in the text Changed event of a RTB and for obvious reasons I can't re highlight the whole document each time someone presses a key so i highlight one line each time the text changes. But this creates a Problem. If someone pastes code into the RichTextBox It only highlights the last Line. So is there a way to get if the user typed the text in with his keyboard or pasted it from the clipboard in the text Changed event?

know if XMLDocument.Save method can save a XML file without any formatting (unindented and without CRLFs)?
The reason for that is that XML files I work with are about 300Mb in size and indentation eats quite a lot of disk memory.
