My objective:
To save the following things...
1. 3 different strings of data, and be able to easily read them later.
Does anyone have a VB 2008 code example to save a bitmap in 256 color (8 bits/pixel) PNG format, using the default Web palette? (I keep getting 32 bits/pixel).Note, this is not for icon use, but for images.
Dim bm As New Bitmap(1024, 1024)
...
bm.Save("test.PNG", ImageFormat.Png) seems to save with 32 bits/pixel
I have tried a few different libraries and had no luck at all was wondering if anyone has ever gotten .tga to save with vb.net 2010 if so could you please help me out with this.

Const WM_CAP_START = &H400S
Const WM_CAP_EDIT_COPY = WM_CAP_START + 30
'The first step is to recognize that the video captured by the web cam can be saved as individual images. By displaying a series of continuous images on the client, it is similar to watching a video stream. To capture an image, I have defined the following subroutine:
'---save the video data into the Image global variable---
Public Sub CaptureImage()
Dim data As IDataObject
Dim bmap As Image
Dim ms As New IO.MemoryStream()
'---copy the image to the clipboard---
[Code] .....
The problem is the code fail to retrieve the image from clipboard? What I'm trying to do is connect to a webcam, then save the video stream file on this webcam as bitmap file before transfer to the client side as an array of bytes.

View 3 RepliesI work in an engineering design house and programming is not my actual profession. And I am relatively new to VB .net (previous i had worked in vb 6)
I am working on an in house application. I am coding a simple application in vb .net. This applications takes a few inputs from user and calculates a result. Now I want to implement a simple functionality that user should be able to save the input and results just like most of the windows programs can in a new file format. And user should be able to open the save file when desired.
I have a problem with saving images in Access. OK the problem is: I saving for first a picture without problems, but then I want to change it for instance "I don't like this image and I want to change another one". Access doesn't want to save second image... and I don't understand way! Code is OK I think because it saved one image. I can change the previous image only if I closing the program and I start it again.[code]...

I'm currently working on a VB 2008 course of Michael Halverson, and I'm stuck at an assignment where I'll have to expand a previous wood order program so customers can add woodcuts to their orderIn the newer program a customer can define 4 coordinates (x & y for startpoint and x & y for endingpoint), after clicking on the button 'Next cut' a line will be drawn on screen (in PanelCuts) with a maximum of ten lines. After finishing, the coordinates must be saved in the order.txt, and when the client re-select the order in the main order program, they can review and adjust / remove the already specified cuts.Right now I'm at the point that the you can enter the coordinates, and the line will be drawn.
- What's the best way to store the submitted cuts, in a Label? array? or something else?
- When the form reloads, how to displays all previous made cuts? Can i count the numer of cuts and with For i = 1 to combined with SelectedItem. Split() ? [code]
I am trying to read a 16bit binary file (tif image) and pixel values of the image ranges from 1200 to 4500. I tried to use BinaryReader using ReadUInt16 but I get EndOfStreamException Unhandled error. ReadByte method works fine with an 8bit tif file. I do not know how to read a 16bit image file using binaryReader. Shouldn't I use ReadUInt16 since values of pixels range from 1200 to 4500?

I want to store data in binary format in VB. Are there any disadvantages to use the functions fileopen, fileput, and fileclose instead of serialization using binaryformatter object. Using these functions seems to be easier and more compact.

I realize the code listed below, whose serial port using string formatting which I inherited is complicated. It formats a Date obtained from a DatePicker control into a "yyyy-MM-dd HH:mm:ss" string format to send to a hardware device to be stored via Serial Port retrieves the date from the device and displays to user What I'm trying to do is port the code for use in a Socket rather than Serial Port which wants a Byte Arrray of the same Date Time string variable. I can't figure out how to encode and convert to Bytes the string value used in the Serial Port version. The evolution of the process is listed from top to bottom.

There is a lot more to the file reading code, but it's proprietary and this is the part that keeps crashing. It runs fine loading the first two files, but when I try to open a third file, it crashes with EXC_BAD_ACCESS at the input.read((char*)names, numStringBytes); line. I don't see any reason that this should crash. I'm writing the binary files in VB.NET using the below code:
Dim myFS As New FileStream(savePath, FileMode.Create)
Dim encoding As New System.Text.UTF8Encoding()
Dim stringBytes() As Byte = encoding.GetBytes("++string")

I created a new cursor (it works properly, I tried it in windows 7) but is not working for me in the program.I took the Windows cursor (aero_helpsel_xl, from C:WindowsCursors) and it appears to me the same error.i use with this code:
Me.Cursor = New Cursor("Patch..")
The problem say:: "{"Image format is not valid. Image file may be corrupted.
Parameter name: stream "}"
edit: I realized what the problem ... It can read only cur files with 24-bit color and lower - but it shows only two colors: black and white.

I'm trying to save a binary file stored in a SQL database with a SaveDialog, the function RetrieveFile retrieves the specified file from the database as a Byte array, here's what I have so far:
Private Shared Function RetrieveFile(ByVal filename As String) As Byte()
Dim connection As New SqlConnection("Data Source=SERVERSQL2008;Initial Catalog=NorthPole;Integrated Security=True")
Dim command As New SqlCommand("SELECT pcfFile FROM Items WHERE pcfFileName=@Filename", connection)
command.Parameters.AddWithValue("@Filename", filename)
connection.Open()
[Code] .....
Files are saved as "SqlDbType.VarBinary" within the database.
I get: "Index was outside the bounds of the array." on:
Dim retrievedBytes As Long = reader.GetBytes(1, startIndex, buffer, 0, ChunkSize)
The MemoryStream appears to not be retrieving the data yet the SQL syntax is correct.

How to save binary file to database. Ineed to save files into database. I cant find why it is not working...

I need to add some information to a PDF (Trim Box proporties, actually replace Media Box proporties with Media Box and Trim Box proporties), and I dont have the support in my PDF-motor. So I found out that I can use Notepad++ to open the PDF as a text file and simply add the Trim Box properties as a string and save it. Now I want to do it automatically with vb.net. When I use Stream Reader/Writer the PDF gets destroyed and loses information (Stream Reader dont read all the NUL, SOH, STX etc. I guess). I tried to read the PDF using ReadAllBytes/WriteAllBytes and then it works good, but then I don't know how to replace "Media Box ..." with "Media Box.Trim Box.". I try to use IndexOf but I can only search for single Byte not the whole string. I'm not good in binary and thats perhaps the problem :-). Does anyone have a better way doing it or how do I search for my string "Media Box" in binary?

I have created in Visual Studio 2008 a Form with two buttons, a PictureBox and a TextBox. I've made the first button to load an image from my hard disk and I want to make the second button to convert the image into binary code and show the string in the TextBox. Image format is Jpeg. Here's the code for the first button:
