View 2 RepliesI have to write an application that consists of mainly one main form, but several different things I wanna display. Pretty standard I guess. So there is a menu, some controls, and the main stuff below (ranging form graphs, tables, dropdown boxes, print preview, etc). I would like to use it like one would use frames in html, design an object that is limited to a box or panel that I define. The literature I have does not give me a clear idea of how to do this (yet). The most obvious seem to be the use of MDI, open a predefined form with no borders, maximize it before showing and remove all minimize/maximize options. But that does not work so well. The form inside the MDI parent does not fit the size that is given for it when it is loaded. e.g.

So my main question is: Is MDI the way to go here at all or are there better/easyer ways to achieve this? If MDI is the way to go, how do I sucessfully restrict a child form inside another object, without giving the user any opportunity to resize (i noticed that I have minnimize/maximize/close buttons, even if I disable them on the child forms themselves)
I would like to know how I can make this happen?
When I double click on a row on a datagrid, a form will appear like the above screenshot.
When I double click on the row which consist of Brian/Kendall, a form will appear and should show Brian in the First Name text box and Kendall should appear in the Last Name textbox.

I am having a problem with the AutoUpgradeEnabled property on OpenFileDialog1 and SaveFileDialog1. When set to True and I call it, it works fine, but it takes 2-5 seconds to return the filename I just selected with the dialog. The Dialog box changes to a larger box than when it's set to False. If I leave the property set to False, everything works normally and the selected filename pops up immediately. What does this AutoUpgradeEnabled property mean and why does it take so long to work? (I experienced this problem with VS2005 and VS2010)

I have this declaration (Public myLanguage As New DataClass.LanguageStrings) where I had intended to keep my working copy of the chosen language strings, so that each Form's Constructor could set the xxx.Text properties using this type of assignment - ... = myLanguage.yyyStrings.xxxString. However, the IDE throws an error at the first occurrence of "myLanguageSet" in the module SetLanguages above, saying that I should use "New" to declare an instance which I can then use, despite the line above that point where I thought I was doing just that. It doesn't seem to matter where I put the declaration of myLanguageSet, I just can't avoid the "New" error being thrown.
I've got a class which consists of a persons name and their height. I then want to sort there height which is in an array, which I can do. However when I want to display both the height in order with there name I can't. The heights are sorted in order but the names just appear in the order they were entered. How do I make the right name appear next to the height?

I am trying to make a program that consists of two list boxes. The first list box contains the names of several employees of a given company, and the second is to display the name, department, ID number, and phone number of the person when the name is double clicked in the first list box. View 3 RepliesI have an application that consists of about 4 screens. Screens can be changed by clicking on buttons or via menu item. I use about 16 to 17 tables in all for all 4 screens. I've publised the application and it works fine except that it takes about 1 1/2 to 2 minutes to launch the application using the setup file that I save onto my PC. If I get lucky, a little over a minute is already fast for me. What can I do to help speed up the launch time?

i have to write a program for my VB class that consists of a resistance checker program. I've searched like a madman to help me through this and I have found nothing >. The program consists of 2 combo boxes, the first one is the nominal resistance drop down list of the numbers :100, 150, 220, 330, 470, 680, 820 and 1000. The second list is of the tolerance numbers; +/- 0.4%, +/-0.6% and +/-0.8%. Now what i want to do is select a number from the first combo box and select the tolerance level of the second combo box and i input the resistor of said value into the text box. when i click the check resistor button it should display a message saying if the resistor is in or out of tolerance. For now I have the form all laid out and the values inputted into both combo boxes and i can go to run the program i am able to select said values. Now my problem is trying to get the right code so that i can check the resistors value.

The following code works perfectly to allow moving a control on a form at run-time. However, when AutoScroll is set to True on Form1, and you drag Button1 past the right and/or bottom bounds of the form, it goes haywire. I really need someway to smoothing control the autoscroll so that as you scroll the control off the form, the scrollbars smoothly appear.

I am still messing around with Cntrl/Copy and Paste from a menustrip. Paste is working fine. The copy is working to a certain extent. It will copy the complete text field from one control to another. how do I determine what is the selected text only. My code below:

View 12 RepliesI've got a Panel on a main Form containing a PictureBox control on Top of a TableLayout control. Both the child controls have their docking properties set to Top. The Picture control has sizemode set to Zoom.
What I'm finding is that the picture doesn't size properly when I start the app. There is a border at the top and bottom in the PictureBox control. It's only when I resize the overall form that it's correct.
So at the moment I've got this ugly bit of startup code, just to fix the problem Me.WindowState = FormWindowState.Normal Me.WindowState = FormWindowState.Maximized
What am I missing?

View 2 RepliesI have a user control which contains some textboxes,buttons ,labels and comboboxes . I used that control in a form and inside a split contaier.Splitter can be moved by the user. User control is docked as fill.
Now when user move the splitter the user control size is changes as it is dock fill but the inner controls used in that user control looks like fixed in a single place .It are not moving nor resizing .How to do this .Is there any property to perform thisI already know about anchor property but sometimes it causes overlapping of controls so I can not use it.

I have a basic Windows form with one Crystal Reports form veiwer control on it. When ran on the development machine it displays the report fine.After build and publish the application is now installed on a user PC. I am getting an error that the Crystal Decisions. Windows. Form version 12.0.2000.0 can not be found. All the Crystal dll's are in the install directory but none of them are being installed in the install machines GAC.Am I setting my publish output up wrong, may references wrong, or is the local GAC files the problem. The message is so criptic, it doesnt really point me in the right direction.

I've created the beginnings of my new web application, but I am often coming up against the issue that ASP.NET renames elements IDs or in the case of form fields, their names.I have a form which is basically a sales system. It is essentially made up of two User Controls, one is a form for Customer Details (name, address etc) and the second is a form for the customer's purchases, it consists of a number lines dynamically created by Javascript created as you list the items the customer is purchasing. Both these sections are User Controls because they are to be used for other areas of the system where this data will need to be recalled/re-entered.When the USer Control is loaded, the field which contains the Customers' Name is renamed "m$mainContent$customerForm$name" I understand where this comes from, "m" is the ID of my Master Page, "mainContent" is the main Content Placeholder and "customerForm" is the name of the User Control.

I have another question (and anticipate that I will have about two more before I'm done with my class project). Here is my issue (and I'll copy and paste my code for clarification). I need to link up the control from the form on either side of the current form that I'm working on so that if I click on the buttons that I'm titling previous and next that I can click on the proper button and either go directly to the previous form or the next form. I was successful in doing this for two earlier forms on this project (with some direction from a couple of helpful people on this forum before), but for some reason, no matter what I details I use the controls do not connect to the previous and next forms.
