Saving Directly From A Datagrid To A Table In A Database?

Basically I have a DataGrid on a form that is used to monitor attendance. I do this by making the data types for the relevant fields boolean so that at runtime, they appear as check boxes that the user can tick. If the user ticks this then the table in MySQL saves this as a 1, or if it is left unticked the table saves it as a 0. I then use those values in a mathematical equation to calculate weekly attendance.
My problem, however, is with saving changes to the table itself. Initially I set a primary key which was fine and allowed me to save. However I needed to turn that primary key to a foreign key and when I do that, I am told that I need a primary key. Now I got round that before when I was entering data into a text box and in my SQL query I'd simply put as my value being " & (name of textbox).Text & " but when I am entering data straight onto the datagrid, I am unsure of what to put in my SQL statement.

My friend from college told me it's probably because there are multiple records in the database and can't distinguish between the two (as perhaps there's no WHERE clause in that UpdateCommand) but I doubt it as it was working perfectly well with multiple records when StudentID was a primary key.
I'm creating an admin application that will allow specific users to manage users login credentials for an application. On a form I have a datagrid that is populated by selecting * from Operator table on the DB. I want the admin users to be able to add, edit and delete records from the datagrid and i have enabled these properties on the grid but any changes need to be confirmed by clicking a 'Saves Changes' button. I have added a new record but when I save these changes I am getting this error: "02/12/2011 11:43:56,frmOperator,btnSave_Click,5,Dynamic SQL generation for the UpdateCommand is not supported against a SelectCommand that does not return any key column information."
ive added a datagrid view to my form and ive also linked it to a database which displays the details i need. but what if i want to delete any rows(records) from the datagrid or edit. i need it to also change in the database. whats the coding? ive tried n tried but cant seem to get the code. its vb.net 2005
I am trying to update a database table from my datagrid using an event handler and ItemCommand. I manage to call the routine and everything is working fine except the text that is inserted into my database is empty. I managed to track this back to the text not being passed from my datagrids footer to the sql parameters. I tried using a string first and then passing that to the parameters but they were also empty. I am accessing the control using the following line.
How can I fit the database table in a datagrid.. Because it is not fit on the database if it has few columns. For example, I have a size(400, 100) datagridview, I want the database table that will display in the datagridview is exact on the datagridview size..
i am creating a system where when a command button is pressed, it adds the data corresponding to that command button to a Table of the screen. And basically im at my wits end at how to do this, i have tried using SQL and databases but all i seem to be able to do is type data into the table and this is not what i want.Basically the table has 3 columns at the moment, which are filled in column at a time, and this need to be done by pressing command buttons. To explain this basically there are 8 buttons, which can be pressed to enter into the first column, once one of these buttons is pressed and second set of buttons appear which correspond to the second column and after one of these buttons is pressed the 3rd set of buttons appears to enter into the third column.Once the last button is pressed that is the first row filled in and the user can again press a button from the first set. Its basically a system for rapidly entering data into this table through the corresponding buttons.I have the buttons appearing and all that working fine, but thats basically just the layout. I need to know how to enter the data into the table.i have to use a SQL database, i only added that as at the end of the session, the entire table of data needs to be added to a master database but i can attempt this at a later date.
The application I'm working on requires that I print out some tables without having a datagrid present.Is there a way to print the tables to a printer using the PrintDocument object or does have to be done another way?
I'm trying to code a button which has a SELECT statement to get information from one table but I want the information displayed in a data grid view.From the data grid view, this data will be stored in a different table within the same database.Previously i had used a list box to display the information but i could not save it in the data base.[code]Is there any way you can display this on a data grid view like i did on the listbox?Im using a datagrid view textboxcolumn column.
I have multiple file upload boxes on a form in my mvc3 application. Request.Files shows 3 files when I put a break point in the below function and look at it.. Problem is other than coding a counter and using a select case I dont see a way to handle saving each file name to the database column it belongs to... Is there away to assign the variable on the fly I guess you could say So that the foreach loop would drop the file in the correct column. Ie handoutFile1, handoutFile2 , handoutFile3, Etc. As it stands the below will overwrite the filename in handoutfile1 every time the loop is gone through. I thought about throwing a counter in the loop and just put a select case on it to assign the db column based on the counter number. Seems like a cheap work around though. [Code]
I have a SQL Data Base. I have created a relation between these tables. Problem is when i drag and drop it on Data grid i get only Parent table columns but i want to sea them both like this.
[Code] my issue is that now i need two cases, first i need a query that will return the date created and modified of the table and i also need to know if its possible to query a list of table names in the database ordered by date created but that have a certain thing in their names. for example the database contains the following tables: [Code] and what i need the query to return is the tables that contain "Data", settings and employees are for the other functions of the program. so the query should return the 4 data tables in order of date created. but i have no idea how to go about doing that in the query, does anyone know how this is done?
I have a WPF app that is currently driven completely from XAML. All fields, datagrids everything are bound from XAML using ObjectDataProviders objects. I have a DataAccessLayer (DAL) imported into the project. The calls to retrieve data using the ODPs are being used to display the data are all working. Is it possibly to perform inserts, updates, deletes using the methods that exist in my DAL directly from the XAML? I am trying to avoid ANY code-behind here at all to keep the UI a separate entity. I cannot find any clear cut examples with insert, update, deletes on this.

I have a form that shows users data from a sql query. What I want to be able to do is when users make a change, they press a save button, the edited/changed data is saved to a new table and then the window is closed. i have been using to save any changes to the datagrid to the database which had the name statically assigned like this [code]I then decided to allow the vb program to access any .mdb file dynamically by using and open file dialog which all works fine except for my save button which again has all of the field name set statically like Record,[code]can anyone suggest a replacement for the code that would solve my problem i have also attached a screenshot with the original database or statically defined database opened can anyone suggest code that will do what the above code does dynamically so it can open many database files.

1. Since the plate number will be stored directly into the database after being converted from the image. However, due to the conversion process of the image into text takes few seconds, it is not able to be stored into the database... May i know is there any code that can solve it? Maybe can delay the process of storing the plate number?
2. Why during running my VB, when i click on the listbox, sometimes it will immediately pop up a dialog box to ask for video source, but sometimes not? How can i solve it?
What I am trying to do basically is open an access query in a datagrid view and then be able to make changes to the datagrid and then save it back to the database.When I try to save:
Using VS2005. The code below saves a datagrid (datagridview1) to XML file and works well. But if newPat is true then I want to save the extra data in the XML file as well. But it doesn't work for some reason. When newPat is true it just saves the XML file as normal but without the extra row.
It seems this code is not working what so ever. I tried replacing dr("patientName") = gridrow.Cells("patientName").Value with dr("patientName") = "test" And it didn't work, it still saved the names that were in the grid.
