I am creating a programme, where I type a sentence into a textbox, then send to an XML file to be stored, which works fine.However when I go to write a 'new' sentence in the textbox and save it to that xml file, and it overwrites the original sentence.I am using what is called a serializable data class to save to my XML file.

I am working on saving some simple strings (from InputBoxes) to an Xml file.I am also at the same time displaying these file entries in a Data GridView. My problem seems to be that as soon as the XmlDocument ("doc") is saved, a dialog box is displayed as follows: This file has been edited outside of the source editor I am getting the dialog, and 2) why I cannot run the routine again (without exiting the application first!). View 39 RepliesI am creating a shell for a FORTRAN application which reads a tab delimited text file.Because I am using Excel to manipulate data, is it possible to use the Excel Automation features to "save as" a tab delimited text file?The only method available seems to be a unicode text format, which does not work. Or is there another format that mimics tab delimited so that the FORTRAN application will read such a file without difficulty?
View 1 RepliesI have an asp page with vb.net code that will query a database and present the user with the number of records that exist that need to be exported along with a button to export them. After you push the export button, it will prompt for a location and filename. But after that, it will not refresh the page with the new counts that now exist. Or in this case update the count to zero for the button they clicked.

So how can I tell the page to refresh with the new counts. It almost seems like I need to tell the process to wait until after the user has finished finding the location and saving the file but I don't want to add a generic threading.thread.sleep in, I want it to only wait until they are done and then refresh the page.

I want to read the whole file, and split the colums so each set of numbers is put into an array to be used as an input for later. If the text file only contains one line of numbers like 00100 25690 21586, I have written a code to seperate those and put them into an array which is attached. If the text file contains more than one row of numbers I can read the whole file in line by line but I can't get the strings seperated.

I am coding this app on my home pc, but when complete it will be run on individual pc(s) (each pc has it oun HD) on a local network. I have a world of questions but right now how do I set the path to my database? is there a way to set a default if its not found.Database(s) that the app use's are stored in a folder on the server. i.e.: P:MyServerNameDeptFolderData for example.OLEDB or TableAdapters which would be the better choice.I understand that MS Access DB is rather resticting.

FileOpen(1, "File location", OpenMode.Output) code, but even this would be best removed as it would open the text file containing all usernames and passwords within the file.I need the system to search for a specific string within a file ( Usernames___Passwords.txt (159bytes)Number of downloads: 134), and with that string find the password associated with it (in my attached example the letters/words after the apostrophe) but stopping at the end of the line.

I have a situation where I have a vb.net program that uses two connection strings. This program will be used on multiple web servers on multiple domains and the only difference for any of them is the two connection strings.What would be the best solution to read in these connection strings from a file separate from my actual .vb code?
Ideally I want to be able to drop the .vb and the connection string file into its own folder on any number of asp.net websites and not update anything else (for example add any connections to the web.config or anything) than the external file containing the connection strings, I assume something like xml would suffice?
Imagine there is a very large html file with of course lots of html tags. I cannot load the entire file into memory. My intention is to extract all indexes for this <p> and this </p> strings. How should I achieve it?

As you can see this class get the .html text and copy to one .txt file. Then it reads the .txt file. Now I just need to compare the string it read with one string from another form... How do I do it? Do I need to change the code?
I have a list of strings. For each string in that list, I want to prepend another string. I wrote a method to do it, but I was wondering if there was something already in .NET I could use to do this. It seems like something that could be built in, but I was not able to find anything.
Here is the method I wrote:

Is list of arrays better for this purpose? If I use a list - Is it empty when it firstly defined? How can I check it it's empty?

i just found a new error problem on my app.. i have a save button that saves text1. as the file name and text2. as the content.. i recently tried to save this file name on my app: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESoftwareC07ft5Y as a file name, and due to the in the file name, it made my app error and close without being able to save my file.. my question is, how to bring a msgbox saying "invalid characters in file name" instead of causing it to error and shut down. (just found out that registry entry is for SafeDisc-enabled products, although, i'm not fully sure..)
