Stuck Saving Lots Of Strings To Read Later On In VB Project?
Sep 11, 2010
i am working on a project where i select from a list box what entry i want to change (out of a set of 27)and then i have to select the entry, enter the details in the text box, hit ok and then i was trying to make it store the string it made under a deceleration.
I have a lots of strings. So I will need to do some statistics. The problem is some strings are the same. So,I will need to know the numbers of the same strings. How to do this.Shold I hold the strings in a Array of a List?
Silverlight project with tabcontrol hosting canvas objects. I want to wrap my entire tabcontrol with a scrollviewer so that on a short display you can scroll vertically to see the whole area on my canvas. When I run my project my scrollviewer vertical bar is always showing even when there's more room vertically than needed for a scrollbar.
All I am trying to accomplish here is a min resolution of 1280x768 to be scrollable and anything bigger than that have the scrollbars hide. My laptop is only 768 tall, but my canvases were developed with 1280x1024 in mind. So I would like a way to set this up so that everyone can scroll or just see the canvas all at once depending on their resolution.
Anyone have any ideas why it is always visible? I've tried setting canvas width and height. I tried setting stretch on alignments on the outer grid. Saw both those tips while searching other issues similar to mine.
....lots of child canvas items in my "Main Floor" canvas. Child canvas objects contain lots of path objects. None which are taller or wider than the main floor canvas width/height.
I am creating a programme, where I type a sentence into a textbox, then send to an XML file to be stored, which works fine. However when I go to write a 'new' sentence in the textbox and save it to that xml file, and it overwrites the original sentence.I am using what is called a serializable data class to save to my XML file.
I am working on saving some simple strings (from InputBoxes) to an Xml file.I am also at the same time displaying these file entries in a Data GridView. My problem seems to be that as soon as the XmlDocument ("doc") is saved, a dialog box is displayed as follows: This file has been edited outside of the source editor I am getting the dialog, and 2) why I cannot run the routine again (without exiting the application first!). [code]
I'm trying to create a VB.net application which reads each line from an XML-file (or ini file, doesn't matter) which dictates what the name of a string should be.
I',m using a method in a COM component. The method looks like this [code] 'What to do now to read the different strings returned? Next i've worked with simpler types but not **BSTR.
Does Anyone know How to read multi-line strings? I am using XmlWriter to write a Multi-Line Textbox to an Xml Document. The Trouble Is I can't figure out how to get the reader to read that multi-line element. I know the writer is writing it in multi-line, but the read just squashes the lines together. Does anyone know how to read that multi-line element properly?
I want to make something to read the text/strings sent to a server and maybe detect if the server is crashed or not and something to and some thing to send text/strings to a server maybe using winsock P.S. I also want to make something to crash my server.
Ok, so say the string is: <a href "[URL]">abc</a> And I just want to get the text "abc" from between the <a href "[URL]"> and the </a>. How would I do so? I dont think I can use the split function, can I?
I need to read strings by stream! Is this possible? I've been searching for quite a while now, without results. So what i have is an application which gets song lyrics. The lyrics come in a string and i need to separate the string into multiple lines. Just to make that clear, lets say that im getting this text and put it into a string:
Bla bla bla.. Na nana na
And in string format = "Bla bla bla... Na nana na" but what i need to do is separate them into its original, line by line.I created an for each loop which looked for upper chars and when found, create a new line. But that didn't work out so well since the lyrics are written in proper english, using the upper "I" everywhere. So i created a new loop which ignored "I":es if they were followed by a space/blank " ". That didn't work either, it skipped some sentences.
Say I have a List(Of Tag) with Tag being an object. One member of Tag, Tag.Description, is a string, and I want to make a comma-separated concatenation of the Description members. Is there an easier way to do this than to read the Description members into a List(Of String) and then use the Join function?
I have a situation where I have a vb.net program that uses two connection strings. This program will be used on multiple web servers on multiple domains and the only difference for any of them is the two connection strings. What would be the best solution to read in these connection strings from a file separate from my actual .vb code?
Ideally I want to be able to drop the .vb and the connection string file into its own folder on any number of asp.net websites and not update anything else (for example add any connections to the web.config or anything) than the external file containing the connection strings, I assume something like xml would suffice?
I'll start off by saying I am using Visual Studio 2008 Standard. I am creating a program that will open installed programs using short code. For instance, if a user types in 'npp' then Notepad++ opens. I have it working just fine to respond to the predefined commands, but I would like to expand it so that the user can define their own settings simply by typing the program directory and the custom short code they want: Example: If I am an end user and would like to say define a short code for Windows Media Player, I would simply type the following: (Assuming Excel or likewise is used to open the csv file).
I'm having problem reading Binary file that has two types of data in it; Strings and numeric data in decimal format.[code]...
1. The loop doesn't stop, and it gives me "Unable to read beyond the end of the stream" Error..
2. The output isn't accurate, apart from a few random correct strings and numbers..
3. After the loop is fixed, how can i save the data to an Array or write it to a text file?. Can the be saved line by line so that the output file has the same number of lines?
4. As you can see in the code, I've tried writing data in a file, but it doesn't work.. Messagebox does show some data (even though it's not accurate), the file however doesn't contain any data..
Is there a way to prevent the VB .NET editor from saving the project whenever IT LIKES TO ? It very annoying ; it so stupid that it saves things that I don't want to and that I didn't ask it to do .If I add a form and then close the editor , when I open the project again , that form is still there though I DIDN'T save it !If I change a declaration from Friend to Public and close the editor without saving , then when I open again the project , my modified code remains modified , though I DID NOT save it !Today I realized that if I delete some controls of a form and then close the Editor , then when I reopen it , the controls are missing for good ! It saved that modification by itself !
the question im asking is how do i save my project WITHIN my project. For example, say i completed my program, made the forms, gave them their perspective design and gave names to all the objects and got the template how i want to look. Now the project im working on is being developed in visual studio 2008 (Visual Basic) Now the question im asking is how do i essentialy save a project that can be made with in the program i am building with the ToolStripMenuItem given the name as "Save Project As" In my program i am working on, what would be the code to save my project "as" with in my piece of software i am working on?
I want to extract a line and take the Name and separately and the ints separately. Then I want to print the name and the average of the numbers like this in a label:
I have the following text file (ExamMarks.txt) John, 85, 95, 90 Micheal, 60, 75, 75
I want to extract a line and take the Name and separately and the ints separately. Then I want to print the name and the average of the numbers like this in a label: John's average is 90 Micheal's average is 70
So far I can only display what is in the text file in a label (see below):Dim FILE_NAME As String = "C:ExamMarks.txt"Dim TextLine As String If System.IO.File.Exists(FILE_NAME) = True Then
When I click on "New Project", under the "Name" textbox, I get no "browse" button to save the project somewhere else other than the default Document and Settings folder. But, my friend see that "browse" button under the "Name" textbox.
How can I save the project somewhere else other than the default Document and Settings folder ?
MySQL databases exists for saving values as strings (text only). Is there any way that i could store files with the same speed as a mysql command ? I know that it depends on the file size but lets say that the file is "Avatar.jpg" 50KB... I ve tried FTP but this is not what im looking for. e.g. You want your users been able to upload a file like the [Add This Attachment] button does in dreamincode.net and you dont have any background on PHP/HTML/Javascript/ASP.NET just VB.NET and the basics of MySQL plus you dont want to use it for a website. How do you accomplish this? Something silly that ive tried was opening an image as text then update the mysql server with that text but it didnt work backwards after i wrote the text on the file and oppened it ...it said that the image was corrupted.
exit VB2008 without saving the current project?Or to revert to the previous saved version? After trying a few changes in my program I decided that is was not the way to go. So I wanted to discard my changes and start again with the program the way it was.
Is there a way I can open and read a text file within a .NET project? I know I can use the System.IO.StreamReader class to do it for a Windows text file.I'd like to store some SQL scripts for upgrading my database in text files within my project. Since I'm writing this in VB I can't just paste the scripts directly into my code due to line continuations, where I could if it were C#. These are very long scripts.
I have a re sizable panel which i am adding over 100 buttons to. to do it i have a timer which detects any change in the height or width. then clears the panel and re draws all 100 buttons on. however i am encountering issues with flashing (where the buttons are gone for a split second before being repainted) and also speed issues. it seems to be slowing down the users ability to re size the window.
i was thinking by adding the buttons through its own thread it might combat the main (speed) issue.
The data is loaded from a xml file (which the code parse the xml, and create datagridview cell dynamically). and the user is allowed to change the data, when the program exists, it will write back to the xml file to save the change. It works fine when there are not many rows. when it has too many rows, say, 10K rows, the program loads slowly. I searched, found some suggestions, but it seems they do not work very well.1) when load the data, not create the rows directly. instead, create a datatable, then add the table to the datagridview's data source. it still takes time for the dgv to show the data.
2) then, I guess maybe I should paging the dgv. then it comes 2 questions:2.a) I only have a manually created table, how can I get a dataadapter/dataset from it? do I have to put data in a database table first (i.e. sql express), then load it to data adapter? is it possible to manually create a data adapter/dataset?2.b) if I paging the dgv, does it mean I still need manually update the dataset/datatable to keep the possible change when the user navigate through the dgv? or, I can simply use an update method?
I want to show lots of text in my form but i'm not sure how to do this efficiently.
The text is just instructions to the games Pong and Match so it isn't very long, but long enough to not be practical to type into a textbox's text control. The instructions will have paragraphs, but no other formatting.
I have a form with lots of labels on it, and a reset button to reset them to a default text. This reset sub has lots of lines of code to get this done, but I think it cen be done in just a few. I thought of something like:
For Each Label In Me.Controls Text = "0" Next
but this doesn't work, or anything else that I've tried. how to do get this done? And what if I want half of the labels set to 0 and the other half to 1? Would that be possible without setting them all seperately?
