Mar 15, 2012I am making a booking app in vb.net and I am using sql server as my database. I am confused about table creation. I have increment of 1 in customerid which is primary key in customer table. Suppose if a customer books a room and according to the increment id"1" is assign to the 1st customer. Now after some days same customer again comes to the hotel and books for a room. Now this time a different id would be assign to the customer according the the increment may be id"125".
What to do if I want to search the customer for how many booking has he done so far. Because there would be different id's assigned to the same customer as every time he walks in to book a room different id would be assign to him. And suppose if I make surname as my primary key than may be other people will have the same surname. How to solve this search problem for a specific customer for all bookings he has done so far. And if i give a unique id to customer my self suppose "cust1" than every time customer walks in he has to remember his id.
Build A Search Tool For An Application?
Apr 14, 2009I'm trying to build a search tool for my application... I have a form with a bunch of criteria which the user may or may not fill in. The tool is looking up against one table in the database (OLEDB) so I wanted to pull in all the data from the table into a dataset (when the form loads) and perform the search on it. I'm not sure how to search through datasets... this is the code I have now:

Dim dsLookup As DataSet
Dim cbLookup As OleDbCommandBuilder

but I get an error on the foundrows = line ("Value of type 1-dimensional array of system.data.datarow cannot be converted to system.data.datarow").... is there a better way for me to search the dataset?

Working In Visual Studio 2008, VB File IO Creation/Opening
Apr 26, 2011I'm trying to search for a file in VB. If it exists I'd like to read it in. If it doesn't not exist I'd like to create it. I'm working in Visual Studio 2008. I was using a Streamreader before, but when I did that I was never getting any sort of error if the file wasn't there, which isn't what I want.

Feb 23, 2010I reported a bug with VS 2010 here: [URL]
They said they could not reproduce the error and wanted me to download the "Visual Studio 2010 Diagnostic Tool ". They just say download the tool and provide them with a trace file which i'm assuming the mean an ETW file. They give me no information on how to accomplish creating a file. I'm using you have to accomplish this with xperf but even if i'm right it has many options that i have no idea what they mean.
I have no idea how to run this thing and i shouldn't have to scour MSDN documentation for the tool trying to figure out what they want.. I did provide them with additional information on how to get the crash to open "have VS 2008 open" but unless i get instructions on what they want then unfortunately i'm not going to be able to help them.

Feb 5, 2012I'm using Visual Basic/Studio 2010 Express to run my VB program using MS Access database. I'm going to convert the Access database to a SQL Server Server Express data base so I downloaded SQL Server 2008 R2 Express onto my pc with Windows 7. The installation went fine and I actually converted my Access database to SQL server. I did not change anything in my VB program.My problem: When I run my normal program with the Access database (no changes), I now get an error when it executes the following code:

I get the error System.Data.OleDb.OleDbException was unhandled;
ErrorCode=-2147467259; Message=ODBC--connection to 'SQL ServerBilotta-pcsqlexpress' failed.

It appears the ODBC is looking for the SQL server eventhough the program is pointing to the MS Access db. How do I get it to NOT look for the SQL db? Is there a default setting for the

Aug 11, 2011I hope I got all that in this question title. Let me explain. We are starting on small desktop app that will snowball into a big app with many forms. The database is SQL Server. It will have classic stored procs/functions performing classic CRUD functions. Given a table or stored proc in SQL Server what is the quickest way to create a form with all the hooks to maintain a table.
For e.g. lets assume I have table like this (most code below is pseudo code)
Table Employee
{
Name varchar(30)
DOB Datetime
Address varchar(100)
}
From this as source I want to create my Target which is form with 3 labels and 3 textboxes with add delete modify buttons (or OK button to add if not exists or modify if exists)

The code generation tool or technique that will be used should generate the correct db hooks (create SQL parameters, SqlCommand, execute sql.. basic try catch etc. Is there any open source tool to do this ? Some trick or templated approach via VS 2010 ? Worst case any third party tool ?

Start A Working Search Form In Visual Basic Express Using An Access DB?
Apr 1, 2011I'm working on my first Visual basic program and I've hit a snag. I want to make a working search form that pulls data from an access database that i already have linked into my visual basic program.
Basically when they click search, i wan't it to check the textbox (lets say firstName.text box for now) for there name, then find all the entries in my database that have those names and display them in a grid.

I am trying to do this in DllMain, but I don't see how to get DllMain to execute when the DLL is loaded. I don't see anywhere that the DllEntryPoint can be set in a VB .NET DLL.
