Oct 10, 2009Our company has setup several remote devices that link to a switch Whenever there are problems on the device, some technicans will replace it using a new one We have a vb program that can automatically update the device setup in our server when technicans replace devices. So we do not need to login and update the setting manually However, our program cannot handle the case that there are more than 1 device that need replacement Therefore, our idea is to retrieve the ip and port of the router/switch that links to remote device using VB.net.

Jul 22, 2011Trying to begin rewriting a VB6 application using .NET (as a Windows Forms app.) to get some practical coding experience.First hurdle is the best way to connect from VB.NET to typically various stored procedures in a SQL Server DB... I'm of course struggling a little along the way as well w/the difference in syntax and so forth, too.Anyone out there have an example you can point me to as far as typical blocks of code you use in calling to establish connectivity to SQL Server databases, populate SQLDataAdapter objects, etc?My assumption is that I need to create a connection object class and have everything in there and just call various methods of that connection object class whenever I need to connect to the database, retrieve data from stored procedures to populate fields on various screens of my app., close the connection to the database, etc.

The same code will work when run directly on the Windows 2008 Server or when using an XP client. If a Sleep 10000 is placed after the close, the program will work. What is the problem here? Checking State Of DNS Server
Dec 6, 2009My ISP's DNS server goes down all of a sudden sometimes. This is very annoying while surfing the internet. So, I'm trying to make an application which has the following characteristics :
Runs in system tray
Pings the server periodically
Notifies when the server becomes unreachable/active
Now, I know that the existing workarounds are to use OpenDNS or ping <IP Address> -t in command prompt. I don't want to use them... the reason being that the former gives much higher pings than my DNS & for the latter, I'll have to switch windows.

I want to check on the server for the existence of an image, then if it does exist, display the image wrapped in other code. E.g.
if "/images/name.jpg" exists then

else
Do nothing.
Seems really simple to me but NOTHING I have tried has worked (compilation errors). I've tried examples using system.io, DIM stuff with 'FileInfo', Set fs. FileInfo examples produce 'not defined' errors, 'Set' says it's outdated and not used anymore and so on.

Access Remote Sql Server Using .NET?
Apr 16, 2009I've found a few examples of using vb.net to access an sql database, so far none of them have worked . They all involve using DataReaders. Maybe its the fact that the sql db is not on the same machine as the application.I was just wondering if anyone had a more comprehensive example of using VB.NET to access a remote sql server.
EDIT:I've received a few helpful comments an replies already. So far my connection string looks like:
"server=sqlblah.myhost.com;uid=myuser;pwd=pass;database=testdb"
Probably also good to mention their is no editing of the tables a this point, just reading.

Read a value from a registry key and then display the results in a text box. It will also connect and search for a specific log file on a server. I understand how to read the files. I'm just not sure how to connect to a machine remotely if I have valid credentials. There seems to be sever ways to accomplish this. I want the most efficient way using vb2008.

My question is does anyone of a sql database ( or any other type of database ) which can be openly accessed by the general public. Does anyone know if a web hosting service would allow me to remotely connect to a sql database ? May 11, 2012Scenario: I want to develop an application.The application should be able to connect to my remote server and download data to the local disk , while downloading it should check for new files and only download the new ones simultaneously creating the required(new) folders. What am i doing?: The app first checks for internet connection , if available pings the server to check if the server is active.Then it has to download the new files.
Problem: I have no idea how to compare the files in the server with the ones in the local disk.How to download only the new files from the server to the local disk? What am thinking?: If i can create the exact folder structure(hierarchy) in the local disk as it is in the server...than i can download the new files accordingly to folders by maintaining some index file in both server and local disk.
