Session State Lost After HttpWebRequest Within AJAX Post?
Dec 21, 2011
I have a bit of strange behaviour in an asp.net web application that involves the session state being lost.
Process A user logs into the application and the session is set. They then fill out 1 field, and the application then does an AJAX POST to a .asmx web service. Within the web service, I am using a HttpWebRequest to grab data from another server.
This data is then output to the browser.A few more fields are then filled in, and the data is then again Post to the same web service via an AJAX POST.
If my sessions time out I want to re-direct the page to another URL: Say the home page. On my page I make use of a GridView that uses Session variables. If the session variable time expire(currently at 60min) and the user click on a row in the GridView I want to re-direct him/her to the home page of my site.
I've got a problem losing session variables in an ASP/VB.NET application. The application allows searching for an item or it can show an item if provided with a unique link (in the browser). It holds information about the item in session variables. In the webpage showing an Item a user can click a button which opens a window with additional information about the item - obtained from a session variable. When I search for the item using the search engine and click the button - it works OK.
When I copy the link to a browser: the item is shown, however clicking the button returns a 'null exception' - the session variables with information about the item are lost. Moreover when I provide the link for the second time the button works, the variables are there!
I am developing an application which has a WebBrowser control, and it navigates to a tal.ki forum. Now tal.ki allows users to sign in using existing accounts in google or facebook, and opens a new window for the same. Now when i click log in, a new IE window opens up, which asks me to log in, i provide the information, the window closes, but the user is not logged into the forum.I have heard that session plays some part here, but i don't know anything i can do for this. I tried WebKitBrowser but that not even opens a window to log in.
I'm trying to use proxies with HTTPWebRequets and it works just fine until I try and post data. It keeps timing out for some reason. Attached is the class I use for webrequests.
Imports System.IO Imports System.Net Public Class EasyHttp Public Enum HTTPMethod As Short
i have a site that i would like to login using httpwebrequest.I have this code and added the correct part to post
Private Sub Button1_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button1.Click Dim postData As String = "u_name=" & TextBox1.Text & "&p_word=" & TextBox2.Text & "&login=Login" Dim tempCookies As New CookieContainer Dim encoding As New UTF8Encoding
[code].....
If i enter the wrong login info it says bad login, but if i add the correct login info, it does not login, all it does is displays the login page again?
I'm trying to send some data onto a server. The data is an XML in form of string and and image encoded to base64.The problem is that the server says '404 Not Found', just as if I had an incorrect URL, but my URL is 100% correct. I can get data from the server using GET, but when I try to POST it doesn't work.I checked it in Fiddler and it first gets z 401 error (not logged in) and then the 404 error, which results in an exception. Can anybody please have a look at the below code and tell me if there is something I'm doing wrong?
vb Private Sub Button5_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button5.Click
I am using jquery so using ajax to post data, but for some reason when i click on submit, the page doesnt go from aspx to aspx.vb on the back side.here's my code -
new_class is my webmethod in the vb.net side. Now if i put an alert in the btnsave onclick function, i see the firstname value in the alert. But the page does not call the new_class function after that.
I'm looking for some smart ideas on how to quickly find all usage of session state within an existing asp.net (MVC) application.
The application in question was the subject of outsourced development, and has been running fine in production. But we recently realised that it's using InProc session state rather than (our preferred route) StateServer.
In a small scale test, we switched it over to StateServer, and all worked fine. However, when we deployed to production, we suddenly experienced a large number of errors. I'm not sure if these errors were caused by this change (they were actually complaining about database level problems), but removing the change allowed the application to function once again (this may have just been because it caused a recycle to occur).
So before I try switching it again, I'd like to perform a thorough audit of all objects being placed in the session (I'd previously taken a quick look at a couple of controllers, and they seemed fine). If I had full control over the code, this is the kind of place where I'd just comment out the class (to compile and find the various ways of reaching the session class), then comment out the accessors, hit compile, and visit each error. But I can't do that with built in .NET framework types.
I decided to try using Reflector. I've analyzed the "Used By" for each of the following:
I'm creating an app that edit a post in a ipforum with httpwebrequest and httpwebresponse in vb.net.I use fiddler2 to get the post forms.I successfully create the code to connect to the site the authentication works well and i don't found problems. But to edit a post i don't find how to do it this is the request of the site taken from fiddler:
I can grab info from a website uing httpwebrequest but i don't know how to post to a form :/Ive always used a webbrowser for this but its a tad slow. Here is what i use with a webbrowser:
Dim DBSplit() As String = Split(TextBox5.Text, "/") WebBrowser1.Document.GetElementById("email").SetAttribute("value", TextBox1.Text) WebBrowser1.Document.GetElementById("Pwd").SetAttribute("value", TextBox6.Text)
[code]....
How would i post this data to a form using httpwebrequest?
vbnet Public Class zWrapper #Region " Variable Declaration " Private _AllowRedirects = True, _UseGZIP As Boolean = True
[Code]....
It works fine for GET requests, but when I try a POST, it errors: Quote:
A first chance exception of type 'System.NullReferenceException' occurred in WindowsApplication1.exe Request Error: Object reference not set to an instance of an object.
I have several sessions stored at one time, and i want to count a particular one:
i have session.contents("session1") and session.contents("session2")
but i only want to check if there is anything in session2...
I tried this:
If Session.Contents("session2") = "" Then
as in, if theres nothing in it, then do something. But... it says when there is nothing in session2, that theres no object reference, i want to do something like this:
[code] I'm trying to post data on these two TextBoxes using HttpWebRequest method , Blow is the post data string [code] So when i send this request to the website , It only post the password but not the name , There's something causing conflict with the word name either 'name="name"' this line or something else.
I'm currently working on web application using VB in ASP.NET.Right now I have 1 page with panels that we are using to show/hide depending on the flow. When the user first comes in, he/she is presented with a gridview containing a list of clients. Then the user, clicks a link from a row and is presented a form where he/she can update the clients' info.Originally, I had a HYPERLINKFIELD that put the clientId in the url, then I'd grab the url and do the code appropriately
I have an ASP.NET MVC controller action with the following VB.NET signature:
[Code]...
If I'm trying to send an Ajax POST in jQuery to the ClosestCities action, what should my request look like? When I use the following code to POST to this action, in the debugger window of VS, position.longitiude and position.latitude are equal to 0.0 (0D):
I have an uploadify control working fine in a vb.net web application - however whenever I switch on cookieless session state in web.config (cookieless="true") - it stops working. In my upload IHttpHandler I can see that the data stored by uploadify is nothing:
[Code]...
I'm guessing that the flash isn't honoring the session id in my url? how to keep uploadify working when I turn on cookieless session state?
I have a Dynamic Data application to which I have added a class for extending EDM. Everything works great, but now I am trying to set an entity property value equal to a value in session state - and its not recognizing the Session command. I'm trying to do something like this:
audit.action_by = CStr(Session("person_name"))
I think this is because I do not have the class Inheriting Page, but if I do add Inherits Page it breaks other stuff. How can I have the class include the ability to utilize sessions directly without inheriting Page?
I'm trying to track down a problem on our test environment. Previously it was set to use InProc Session State Type, but I've added in the SQLServer type for one specific Web App. I did this because we use the SQLServer type in our production environment and I want our test env to match as closely as possible.
However, after changing it to SQLServer I do not get any errors when trying to store unserializable data in session like I would expect. It works just fine, even though I would think it shouldn't. I'm a relative newbie when it comes to configuring this, but from the various tutorials I googled, I thought I covered all the bases.I was wondering if there's any code snippets to verify which session state type an application is actively using.
I configured session state in web.config.<sessionState cookieless="AutoDetect" timeout="5" sqlConnectionString="....."/>Now, I want to know timeout and sqlConnectionString from code-behind.
i am still new to using session state, i want to convert page name into and integer according to a database table a function then compares "X" and "Y" to check if a user have the right to view this page..i know this is not the best way of managing website security, but it is like "training on how to use the session".[code]
i have just started learning about httpwebrequest and response to open webpages and get/post info. Anyways i have a working project that connects to a webbrowsewr useing a proxy but this does not workj for httpwebrequest. Im guessing its totally different for httpwebrequest but i have no idea how to work this :/
