May 27, 2009i am trying to create an app that will do an EMAIL mail merge for me in vb(.net) using excel as the data source and word for the template.
I have the following so far which merges the data and template but I have no idea how to send the result out via email.

Mar 15, 2012What I would like to do is create a command button that launches an email from outlook attaching the current word document to a set email address. I'm not fussed if the word document is saved or not as it is only the email receipent that needs it, likewise I don't mind if the code instructs the email to send of just opens it ready to be sent.I have read through loads of forums and tried loads of codes but cannot get any to work.

Aug 27, 2009I searched on the forum / Internet for the solution how a PropetryInfo object (of a Public property) can reveal if it has a Private Protected Setter ... it was all in vain .... all help I found was about how to "Set" value of a public property having a Private Setter.I would like to know if I have a PropertyInfo object of a public property, how would I know if its Setter is Non Public?
I tried, in a exception handling block, where I did a GetValue of the PropertyInfo object and then called SetValue by setting the same value back... but to my surprise it worked well and didn error out.

Receive An HTML Document In An Email Which Has Some Special Pricing And Products?
Feb 10, 2009We receive an HTML document in an email which has some special pricing and products. I want to be able to parse the data, perform some lookup operations on it, assign some pricing markups, save it to a data source for future referance and do it with VB.net and a web browser. I'd really like to use MSHTML.HTMLDocument, but all the documentation I have is based on HTTP URL's, but since these HTML pages will be opened from an eMail or saved to a fileshare, they won't have the HTTP. I've also tried to read it as a text file and parse with RegEx, but it's not very effecient and to be honest, RegEx is still a fog to me.
Would anyone be kind enough to suggest a way to do this? Is MSHTML able to do it and if so; how do I set up a reference to a non-HTTP URL?

Nov 21, 2011I'm checking If a border's child property is not set to nothing or equal to a given element, but whenever I run the program, it says that it's set to nothing and crashes. Here's my code:

If Me.Child.Equals(value) Then ...
Both gives an error. What should I do to pass these lines? Also in C# it would look like this:
if(this.Child != null) ...
if (this.Child != value) ...
But this time it doesn't give an error.

Mar 27, 2009I need to pass a parameter to the event PrintPage of the PrintDocument relative to my PrintPreviewDialog in some way.I tought to inherit PrintDocument class adding to it a property with the parameter I need, creating MyPrintDocument class. Then, I would like to create MyPrintPreviewDialog class, in which I could override the Document property declaring it of MyPrintDocument type.The problem is that the Document property is not overridable and if I declare it Shadows the PrintPageEvent doesn't raise.

Nov 10, 2009I'm developing a small vb application that will enable a user to select an excel spreadsheet as the source data and a word document as a letter template then create a mailmerge from the two.It's all working fine apart from when the mailmerge runs, a dialog box pops up asking for the sheet to be selected. The list of options is blank until the 'options' button is clicked and 'system tables' is selected. This is a word thing but I'd like to turn this off, if possible selecting the necessary options programatically from within my vb application.

Jun 17, 2009Using Office automation in Word 2007, I view the Document Information Panel, showing me properties of a document that resides in a SharePoint location. Using VS 2008, I interrogate the following in the Immediate Window:

but I don't see a corresponding change to the screen. I do however see that, on Advanced Properties/Custom Tab that a Custom Property by the name of "Process Name" has been recorded with the value "New Value"There seems to be some kind of one way mapping going on between "server" and "custom" properties, but the really strange part is:I can update SOME server properties, others I cannot.I don't know a darn thing about SharePoint, other than as a dumb user. And getting any help from a SharePoint admin in my company is probably a very long shot...I checked all of Word's Built-in Properties and Custom Properties, I decided that none of them can be used to update the "Process Name" "server" property.How can I update this stubborn property? Most of the server properties I can update, a few I cannot.I see some articles referring to using what looks like "SharePoint objects." Do I need to download an SDK just to populate these properties? So far I've used Office automation, because I am running locally on the user's PC and pre-filling documents using the Word object model. All that is left is to finish populating the last couple of server properties after I copied the doc to a Sharepoint folder.

Oct 21, 2011I have a VB.Net app that needs to print a bunch of pages from a secure intranet site; the app was made and was working for a non-secure site but now the app needs to login before accessing the web pages necessary to print. I get the error "Object Reference not set to an instance of an object" when I use my new Sub which follows:

This Sub prints the given page in IE, so I figured I could use the same WebBrowser1 object for the login Sub, as I don't know how to or whether I should declare a separate object for the SiteLogin Sub. Both of these functions are called after the WebBrowser1 object is defined however. I just need to be able to submit a simple login form to a set URL, and this info needs to all be hardcoded (there's no option to set the location or login info nor should there be).

.net - Slow Performance When Utilizing Interop.DSOFile To Search Files By Custom Document Property?
Apr 19, 2010I am new to the world of VB.NET and have been tasked to put together a little program to search a directory of about 2000 Excel spreadsheets and put together a list to display based on the value of a Custom Document Property within that spreadsheet file. Given that I am far from a computer programmer by education or trade, this has been an adventure.
I've gotten it to work, the results are fine. The problem is, it takes well over a minute to run. It is being run over a LAN connection. When I run it locally (using a 'test' directory of about 300 files) it executes in about 4 seconds.I'm not sure even what to expect as a reasonable execution speed, so I thought I would ask here.The code is below, if anyone thinks changes there might be of use in speeding things up.
