My program needs to create a mailmerge with Word using a specific group of clients from the sql database list. I have a datatable set up in the database that stores the clients information on the individual user's computer.
The code below will automate word to create the mailmerge, but I can't figure out how to pull the following from my client table and use the results as a mailmerge datasource[code]...
is there a possibility to modify the Datasource that is used for a mailmerge in Word VBA? e.g in the MailMergeBeforeRecordMerge- event?I need to delete some unnecessary lines before proceeding with the MailMerge.

I'm developing a small vb application that will enable a user to select an excel spreadsheet as the source data and a word document as a letter template then create a mailmerge from the two.It's all working fine apart from when the mailmerge runs, a dialog box pops up asking for the sheet to be selected. The list of options is blank until the 'options' button is clicked and 'system tables' is selected. This is a word thing but I'd like to turn this off, if possible selecting the necessary options programatically from within my vb application.

I am using VB.net 2010 to generate a letter from a Word 2002 template. The template has MailMerge bookmarks where the database values will be displayed (for example the letter receiving company's address). Currently I have:

If "Address2" value is blank, then don't display the bookmark in the letter output (hence avoid displaying a blank line)

I have 7 company Divisions that sit in an access database.I then use this list to populate two comboboxes in my windows form.However I get a syntax error in my SQL Query if the Division name is more than one word.For example in my access database I have two columns one is a status column and the other is a division column. If for example the Division is called 'Corporate' the status column is called 'Status Corporate' and the division column is called 'Corporate'.The SQL query works fine in this scenario.However if I have a Division that is more than one word, lets say 'Operations Division' I get an error in my SQL Query that says -

i am building a database application in vb.net and i started by adding a data source from the DATA in the toolbar. my connection is good and it shows all my tables in the data source panel.
i also see new classes related to my database, like

and so on.
how do i query and use these ? i googled a lot and i am not able to get this.

I would like to implement a generic Linq query on a DataGridView.DataSource to retreive a row whith an idField. I did search MSDN, StackOverflow, etc... but didn't quite find what I'm looking for. how I could implement it ?

A program that I'm designing for a local jewelry shop to print receipts and what not, there are multiple cashiers. I have written a database in Access with the Cashier ID, First Name, Last Name, PasswordI have added this to my dataset, it shows up as CashierDataSet1. What I need to do is verify the Cashier ID, and the Password match TextBox1, and 2. All the tutorials I have found are for accessing that database on the local hard drive, which would be fine if I could get rid of my UnauthorizedAccessException error. Any ideas or well known tutorials for using a database in a dataset without pulling the text boxes onto the form and creating that navigator ?

View 3 RepliesI know this is a very basic question but it has been awhile since I created a project with a database( been using a lot of XML). I created a database then selected it as a data source added some controls to some forms. Then I realized I needed to adjust some tables and I needed to add a whole new table. I deleted the controls and updated the tables that needed some adjustment. Now I would like another table. Can I disassociate the data source and do my adjustment to the database?
Have I created a problem with the binding object since I just deleted the controls on the form. I have written classes and some logic or else I might just start over. I guess I could copy those files but I am wondering if there is an easy way to fix what I have started. I realize that there are alot of questions here so any resource on how to modify a database that is attached to a VB.Net project.

I am developing a winforms application that will have an offline mode, so that it can access the data if an internet connection (or more accurately, a connection to my WCF service) cannot be established. I have decided to utilize SQL Server Compact edition on the client side of the application & was wondering what the general consensus is on the "best" practice for making the client application (Sql Server Compact) subscribe to the master database (MSSQL 2008).
Management enters information into a web based administration panel that I developed and is stored in a MSSQL 2008 database.After adding / modifying information, they can click a release "datapack" button which will increment a "datapack" version number, which will later be used by the client application to determine if they are in sync or not. When the client application is started, it connects to the internet and determines if the version numbers are in sync. If not, it pulls the information from the server.
That third step is where I'm a bit lost I thought about simply developing a web service that will expose a dataset containing all of the data and just iterating through it doing inserts, but that seems terribly inefficient to me. The full database probably wouldn't amount to much more than 5 MB total, so that led me to think it would be great if when management clicks the release datapack button, it would store the database in a file that could simply be downloaded and would replace the embedded database. Again, I'm a little lost on how that would work. This is my first time working with an embedded database, most of my work has been web/win apps that have real-time access to the data.
So I have an application which uses MSSQL server as datasource. Is there anyways I can avoid using any database server and use a local file as datasource ?

But in tutorials I have seen, I heard that one needs to re-create referential integrity and relationships and constraints and checks and defaults anew in datasources mapped onto databases. If there's a table named solutions and in the table there is a field named description; i need to be able to pull up all records where for example the search word is 'printer' is in the description column. I don't have any code or database structure to show. I first need to know if this can be done. Can someone supply a code snippet example or tell me what SQL keywords will do this, or some pointer?
View 4 RepliesOk, so I've got this Visual Studio 2008 Project I was working with about a year ago perhaps. And this project had a datagrid that was linked to an external database running on a server off the internet. Now, this databinding was all done using Visual Studio 2008's built in features. But how can I now change the binding to a different server, without destroying the project? I've noticed that a lot of the code that Visual Studio creates makes a mess. So manually trying to change the datasource has allways f*cked up the whole project for me.
I'm not all that good with this stuff, that's why I used the built in features of Visual Studio. But I noticed that several things appear, like a binding source, and a dataset. Is it possible to do this? Perhaps even better, making these settings be controlled after the program has been compiled. The way it is now, it's all hard coded after compiling, and that kinda sucks. I remember trying to do this about a year ago, trying to bind these settings to variables stored in settings. But I never got that to work. Just throwing around ideas here
i have a win app in vb2005 but when i want to create a data-source to connect with my database i got this error: The file \CATV-ANTIVIRUSdata|CLINICA_Data.mdf is on a network path that is not supported for database files.

[Code] my issue is that now i need two cases, first i need a query that will return the date created and modified of the table and i also need to know if its possible to query a list of table names in the database ordered by date created but that have a certain thing in their names. for example the database contains the following tables: [Code] and what i need the query to return is the tables that contain "Data", settings and employees are for the other functions of the program. so the query should return the 4 data tables in order of date created. but i have no idea how to go about doing that in the query, does anyone know how this is done?
