My program writes text to a multiline textbox. After the input is finished, the cursor is at the end of the text. I want the program to position the cursor at the start of the text so that I can see it.
MSDN suggests:-
tbPositionCursor.Select(0, 0)
I believe the cursor is now repositioned, but I cannot see the start of the text. How do I scroll back automatically, refresh or whatever so that I can see the start of the text?

I have MDI form and child forms in my app.[code]...
now if i try to refresh the items of combo box of Register form from Desig form, then it is not refreshing. i.e. i can't see my new items in that combo box on Register form.
Now when i try to start my app directly from Register form then the same code works perfectly but same code is not running when i try to start the app from MDI form.[code]...
wen i open mdi through the login form, the forms inside the mdi child forms dont seem to execute.
View 2 RepliesI have a program that uses two forms. The program opens to the Main form, and the user can navigate to the other form from the Main form through use of a button. Here's the way I've currently written it: When the Main form loads, it declares and instantiates the other form during the load procedure. When the user presses a button, the second form is displayed by means of the ShowDialog method. On the second form, there is a Return to Main Screen button which closes the second form, bringing the user back to the Main form.
So, here's the structure of the code:
Code:
Public Class frmMainForm
Dim frmSecondForm As New SecondForm
Private Sub btnSecondForm_Click(blah, blah, blah) Handles blah, blah, blah
[CODE]...
Here's my reasoning: Originally, I wrote the code so that a new instance of the second form was created every time the button was pressed. The problem was that whatever data was displayed on the second form, previously, was lost when the user returned to it a second time. Since the user would be switching back and forth between these forms, frequently, I needed that data to persist.
What is the best practice for accomplishing this:
1) Declare and instantiate the second form on program start, as I have done, and use the button simply to show the form?
2) Declare and instantiate the second form each time the button is pressed but maintain the variables on the Main form and pass them ByRef to a custom constructor for the second form? Is this even possible?
3) Something else?

View 6 RepliesIn your opinion what API use Spy++ to get the "Rectangle" and "Restored Rect" data of a child control of an external window?I don't think it uses GetWindowPlacement because if I use this API for the main window I obtain the same values of Spy++, but if I use the GetWindowPlacement API to find the position of a control of the window itself, known it Hwnd, I obtain different results as to Spy++ (that are ALWAYS the same results also if I shift the Main window... so I think that are relative data and not absolute data... but they are wrong )
One example:
Spy++ : (620, 473)-(792, 505)
GetWindowPlacement: (615, 450)-(787, 482)
same dimensions... but different pos... and the right pos is the Spy++ pos.
I have an issue when I place a label box in the MDI Parent form and then open a child form the label box highlighted in child form?
View 6 RepliesHow to set winform start position at top right? I mean when user click (start) my winform application the winform will appear at the top right of the screen?
View 2 RepliesWell I'm not sure how to describe it so i uploaded an image that has 2 different control box positions.
[URL]
The one on top is set up as Render Mode=System while the other image is set up as Render Mode= ManagerRenderMode
Both applications were developed in VB using VS2005.
Each one has its MDI container and their MainMenuStrip set up..
What property/reason would be causing this? I just created a test program simulating the same case (MDI container with child forms) and everytime i maximized the control boxes appear in the correct position.
In a MDI WinForm I want to save each child window position and state, per application user, that is different by the logged in Windows user. My application has its own users; so I won't use the user settings like my.Settings... etc.One option is to read/write directly to the database, but I don't like the idea to access the database for something so trivial as the windows positions. The plus is that I could store that information independently by the machine where the user works, wherever she logs in, her preferences will be remembered.Another option, that I'd like to follow, is to use Xml to store that information in a file locally on the user's computer. The structure could be something like:
<form name="form name">
<Top>120</Top>
<Left>100</Left>[code]....
how this could be done; maybe using Linq to Xml? I've found I can write something as simple as
Dim formPos As XElement = _
<User><%= My.Application.connectedUser.id %>
<form1>[code].....
2) How to write the XElement when finished building it. Should I use an XmlWriter.Create? Hot to pass it the XElement?
3) What happens when in the Xml file there's already a node with the same name, I want to overwrite the previous user settings if they are already there, but not append to the file, nor rewrite the entire file, of course.
i have a program that change the look of the taskbar. But i have a problem, i want to set the start button position to the middle of the taskbar but can't find any code to do this. I know that its possible because there are some programs that do this.

View 3 RepliesI have a MenuStrip with File > New, Open, Save, Exit located in a parent form, and a RichTextBox located in a child form. The problem I'm running into is concerned with the destination of the file elected from "Open" and the save. When a user selects their file from "Open", I need it to open the child form and put the text into the RichTextBox.I also need the program to be able to "Save" from a child form, whether it's been brought up via "New" or "Open".
View 3 RepliesI have created a maskedtextbox to do a simmple validation >L99999. My problem is when the user clicks on the empty box the cursor stays where they clicked it, not at the beginning of the box as it would with a normal textbox. I have found some suggestions but these all seem to affect the way the cursor moves within the box rather than just changing the start position. As far as the end user is concerned the box should behave just as any other textbox but with validation.

I know that to start a program at startup, we should add this subkey
"C:Program Files<myprogram's path><nameoftheprog>.exe"
to
HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionRun
Alright!
But the problem is when my program has to delete a certain file in C:/ at startup, it just can't because it's not ran as administrator!
