The Program's Form Could Start From Down To Up?

View 2 RepliesI have a program that uses two forms. The program opens to the Main form, and the user can navigate to the other form from the Main form through use of a button. Here's the way I've currently written it: When the Main form loads, it declares and instantiates the other form during the load procedure. When the user presses a button, the second form is displayed by means of the ShowDialog method. On the second form, there is a Return to Main Screen button which closes the second form, bringing the user back to the Main form.
So, here's the structure of the code:
Code:
Public Class frmMainForm
Dim frmSecondForm As New SecondForm
Private Sub btnSecondForm_Click(blah, blah, blah) Handles blah, blah, blah
[CODE]...
Here's my reasoning: Originally, I wrote the code so that a new instance of the second form was created every time the button was pressed. The problem was that whatever data was displayed on the second form, previously, was lost when the user returned to it a second time. Since the user would be switching back and forth between these forms, frequently, I needed that data to persist.
What is the best practice for accomplishing this:
1) Declare and instantiate the second form on program start, as I have done, and use the button simply to show the form?
2) Declare and instantiate the second form each time the button is pressed but maintain the variables on the Main form and pass them ByRef to a custom constructor for the second form? Is this even possible?
3) Something else?

"C:Program Files<myprogram's path><nameoftheprog>.exe"
to

Alright!
But the problem is when my program has to delete a certain file in C:/ at startup, it just can't because it's not ran as administrator!

View 4 RepliesHow can I get my application to load the Sub Main at the start rather than loading a form on start up.
I have tried declaring 'Public Sub Main' on my forms and in some modules, yet in my project properties, it is not one of the options.
Had this matter on Xp machine and visual studio 2010 ultimate after windows update between december and january: even the simplest windows form program crash on start when starting for debug (inside Ide, F5) unless putting breakpoints on each line of the autogenerated (and marked as "debugger step thorugh") code.(see: [URL]) I was wondering if this matter affects only Xp machines, or if someone with Seven or Vista had same matter.
View 2 RepliesI have a procedure at the end of my console application that ask the user to either hit enter to end the program, or type s to perform another search. The issue I'm having is no matter what the user types in the program end. What I would like to happen is if the user types s, then the program starts over and lets the user perform another search. The program is procedural and I need to find a way to start back off at the top of the program which ask the user to type a name to search.

View 3 RepliesI have made my application to start automaticly when windows start (registry ../currentversion/run/appname + path). In this mode the application start minimized and an little icon appear in the notification icon area. With this icon you can maximize the app or exit it.If you exit the app and start it again using the Menu (Start/programs etc) than the application start in minimized mode (and in this case I would like to have it in normal mode) because the setting autostart is still true.Is there a way you can detect when the application start when windows startup using the above registry or when people click on an icon in the programs menu (or desktop)?

Can someone look at my code and see what the pause button needs to do to pause the program? I am using VB 2005. Here is my code.

I am trying to launch a program using System.Diagnostics.Process.Start("C:Program FilesFrets on FireFretsOnFire.exe") but the program always fails - the program generates an error log - so its obviously trying to start - ive included the log text but i doubt it will be useful.

View 4 RepliesI'm not sure what is the best approach. Here is what I'm trying to do. I have installed sql express 2005 and sql express manger as pre-req before my program is installed. Now I would need to attach a DB to my new sql express instance. I'll be using windows login for this. I pretty much can not touch sql express, and run it as it was installed. No changing settings. Now I can run the SP_AttachDB from sql, but how would I automate that? I have tried the connection string, with the attach database option, but it's not working.

View 12 RepliesI need the cursor to appear in my text box when the program is started so you don't have to click on the box to start the input. I have been trying tons of different things, including the .focus() command and "selstart" and no matter where I put them, they don't put the cursor there when the program is started. So I guess my question is what code do I use and where do I put it so that the cursor starts in the textbox for input.
