Multiple Forms - Declare And Instantiate Second Form On Program Start - Use Button Simply To Show Form?
Jan 14, 2010I have a program that uses two forms. The program opens to the Main form, and the user can navigate to the other form from the Main form through use of a button. Here's the way I've currently written it: When the Main form loads, it declares and instantiates the other form during the load procedure. When the user presses a button, the second form is displayed by means of the ShowDialog method. On the second form, there is a Return to Main Screen button which closes the second form, bringing the user back to the Main form.
So, here's the structure of the code:

Here's my reasoning: Originally, I wrote the code so that a new instance of the second form was created every time the button was pressed. The problem was that whatever data was displayed on the second form, previously, was lost when the user returned to it a second time. Since the user would be switching back and forth between these forms, frequently, I needed that data to persist.
What is the best practice for accomplishing this:
1) Declare and instantiate the second form on program start, as I have done, and use the button simply to show the form?
2) Declare and instantiate the second form each time the button is pressed but maintain the variables on the Main form and pass them ByRef to a custom constructor for the second form? Is this even possible?
3) Something else?

Mar 30, 2011Okay, so I'm doing a card game and I'm trying to set that when picturebox (PictureBox1) is clicked, a random card from 13 cards will come visible. Problem is, that when i start the program and click the picturebox, the same card will always come visible. As you can see i've put a button (Button1) which will hide every card. If I press Button2, then Button1 and then the PictureBox1 it will show differend card, but the cards which come visible are always the same.
e.g i press PictureBox1 (which will make card visible), then Button1 (which will make PictureBox1 non-enabled) and then Button2 (which will hide every card and make PictureBox1 pressable). Lets say i pressed the PictureBox1 four times and i got cards: 9, 6, 7, 3, then I close the program, start it again and press PictureBox1 again 4 times and it will show the same cards (9, 6, 7, 3). How can this be done that it will not show the same cards always?

Jun 20, 2012I am currently working on a program that has several buttons in it lined up. Each button goes to different applications (.exe programs). The program I am making is suppose to be a fullscreen program and won't let you see any of Windows when it's running.
Therefore I want to make a "back" button that always stays on top of any application and when I push it it will take me back to my WindowsForm (startpage of the program).I am also wondering if you can make it so all .exe programs only can run ONCE. So if I press one of the buttons saying "open notepad" I want it to work so it can't open Notepad once again making it two notepads open. Just go back to the first Notepad opened.

The issue I'm having is no matter what the user types in the program end. What I would like to happen is if the user types s, then the program starts over and lets the user perform another search. In this mode the application start minimized and an little icon appear in the notification icon area. I'll explain..I have two apps A and B, B is kind of a reminder application which runs in the background..but that is not important here, thing is when App B is open, it has a button which takes user to App A, I am doing that using Process.Start("A.exe") all good so far. Problem is I need to make sure that if any other instance of App A is running then I need to jump to that instance. I am able to check for the instance running using Process.GetProcesses() but I am not able to set focus to that running instance.
