View 6 Replieswhen I am using the following code. the kill all batch file internally calls a vbs cript like this when a batch file is called using CreateProcess() which internaly calls a vbs script like this cscript //e:vbscript xyz.vbs which intends stops and starts a service in remote PC as follows. But the service is stopping but it is not starting event though it start command is used what could be the reason...
sCommandLine = "SC \"&strMachineName&" stop xyzService"
WScript.Echo(sCommandLine)
Set poProcess = WSHShell.Exec(sCommandLine)

I'm trying to execute a 3rd party application, called from a .cmd batch file, called from a self-hosted WCF service. Like this:
WCF --> .cmd --> 3rd party app
For whatever reason, using the Shell command doesn't work fully. It will call the .cmd file, but the 3rd party app won't kick off (I know the .cmd is firing because I have before/after ECHO statements populating a log file). If I double-click the .cmd file from explorer, the 3rd party app will start just fine. So, I figured, maybe try something besides the Shell command from my WCF service.
So I tried the following code, but it won't kick off the .cmd file at all (echo statements not firing). What am I missing here?
Dim psi As New ProcessStartInfo("cmd.exe", "/C " & System.Configuration.ConfigurationManager.AppSettings("ExStream_CMD_File_Path"))
Dim proc As New Process()
proc.StartInfo = psi
proc.Start()
proc.WaitForExit()
The path in the app.config file is valid (just double-checked). Is there anything wrong with the above code?
I've made a windows service for the purpose of creating backup's of certain files and directories automatically each day. The service is installed as automatic (so it starts after win startup) and i have an application which monitors the service through a system tray icon (so right-click on it you can start/stop/pause the service, change settings, etc).

This is simple to explain, i need to track the process id from the files I execute. So lets look at the code.For this example just create 2 files in the C: and call it 1.xlsx and 2.xlsxNow open the firts file ...
Dim objFileExecute As New System.Diagnostics.Process
objFileExecute = Process.Start("C:1.xlsx")
MsgBox(objFileExecute.Id)

I recently installed Visual Studio 2010 which caused the same error, every time i try to start the program i get this message. i am using windows 7 professional 64bit i only have one user account, and i am the computer administartor. every other program works fine but visual studio programs.
View 2 RepliesI have a user interface with pushbuttons, each starting a different process. Can I manage these pushbuttons via usb numpad? i.e. if 1 is pressed at numpad, pushbutton 1 will be clicked (so process 1 will start); if 2 is pressed at numpad pushbutton is 2 will be clicked and so on.
View 1 RepliesI am just starting to get back into VB programming, and I'm looking for a more elegant solution to an application I'm developing for a production line.I have a series of labels with manufacturing steps. The background color of the steps needs to change to green as the process steps through. Right now it is working as it should, it just seems a little too much like brute force programming.
Right now I'm using a Select statement to change the color of EACH label. The first portion of the Select statement is below. With this method I have to do this same thing for each case.

I want to make a very small program where the user inputs a starting time and an ending time that is in "clock time (?)" and the program converts it to total minutes in one box and a decimal total in a second box. I have 4 textboxes, 2 are masked text boxes (military time) for input and two are not, for output and the math is coming out weird.
If I put a start time of 0925 and an end time of 1015, the results I'm expecting would be 50 total minutes and .83333 total as a decimal. I don't think I'm converting the textbox input correctly as I'm not getting anything near that. I am using a button to calculate and another to clear the boxes, just FYI. Also, I'm not sure what to do about any times that span the noon hour except to use an absolute value.
Public Function Time()
Dim StartTime As Double
Dim Endtime As Double
StartTime = txtStart.Text
Endtime = txtEnd.Text
txtDecimal.Text = (Endtime - StartTime) / 60
txtMinutes.Text = Endtime - StartTime
End Function
Whats happening is I run the code below and get the following error "The system cannot find the file specified". I've read that with UseShellExecute set to false that you can't use WorkingDirectory.
Dim Password As String = "password"
Dim SecureStringPassword As New System.Security.SecureString
For Each c As Char In Password

Had this matter on Xp machine and visual studio 2010 ultimate after windows update between december and january: even the simplest windows form program crash on start when starting for debug (inside Ide, F5) unless putting breakpoints on each line of the autogenerated (and marked as "debugger step thorugh") code.(see: [URL]) I was wondering if this matter affects only Xp machines, or if someone with Seven or Vista had same matter.
View 2 RepliesI'm working on a website where we'll be getting a lot of videos to be uploaded. To keep things simple and secure, I'm just writing VB.net windows app to suck all the files in a directory in, allow you to set some options, and start the encode by spawning a new FFMpeg process.

I have made my application to start automaticly when windows start (registry ../currentversion/run/appname + path). In this mode the application start minimized and an little icon appear in the notification icon area. With this icon you can maximize the app or exit it.If you exit the app and start it again using the Menu (Start/programs etc) than the application start in minimized mode (and in this case I would like to have it in normal mode) because the setting autostart is still true.Is there a way you can detect when the application start when windows startup using the above registry or when people click on an icon in the programs menu (or desktop)?

and as you can see, I am showing users the next available date open to them is determined with the value dteReturnValue.ToShortDateString .. but what I'd like to do is show the user both the start date and the end date, which will always be +7 days from the field in my database.
I am having a bit similar task, which I am not able to get thru. I'll explain..I have two apps A and B, B is kind of a reminder application which runs in the background..but that is not important here, thing is when App B is open, it has a button which takes user to App A, I am doing that using Process.Start("A.exe") all good so far. Problem is I need to make sure that if any other instance of App A is running then I need to jump to that instance. I am able to check for the instance running using Process.GetProcesses() but I am not able to set focus to that running instance.

I need to be able to change the start up forms background image and i am lost on how to do it. Below is what I have tried. Can anyone tell me how this can be done.
Code:
'1 try
Dim f1 As frmMain
f1.BackGroundImage = Image.FromFile(Application.StartupPath & "" & "MyBitmap.bmp")
'2nd try
Me.BackGroundImage = ImageList1.Images(0)
I want it when I type anything, it will start at the third character of the textbox. Ex. I have this amount textbox that has .00 on it, whenever I type numbers it will start after the period. So if I type 300 then it will show 300.00

View 1 RepliesI am trying to start CMD and pass a command to it and then monitor it in the app I am writing. The user enters the information that makes the commandline and when they click Go it does start CMD but straight away it says it can't find the file.Is there any way I can view what is being sent to the CMD prompt to double check that this is correct? Do I need to specify the path to the file I want it to run, i.e. cscript c: estMigrate.wsf?
View 6 RepliesI'm very new to Visual Basic, and have just installed VB Express 2008 from a Sams book titled, "Teach Yourself Visual Basic 2008 in 24 Hours", by James Foxall. I've managed to make it through most of the book, which was very helpful in getting a quick jump start, but I find that I am still "not quite getting it" yet.
I've written a program that has a "Start" and "Stop" button which are suppose to control the logging of data through a serial port. When I click the Start button, the serial port gets initialized, opened, and then I go into a Do-Loop-Until loop to process the incoming data stream, and that is suppose to stop when the Stop button is pressed. However, I haven't figured out how to implement that.

I'm creating an app, with a splashscreen, loginform (just enter a name) and a mainform.With I use my.settings. Now here comes the issue I run into.The splashscreen should check (onload) if the my.settings.user contains any info, if it does, the mainform should be shown, if not the loginform should be shown. On my app settings I have splashscreen set to the splashscreen and the first form is set to login form.

My first post! im quite new to programming but loving every minute of it.Basically i want to open another exe file from vb.net 2010. i can do it normally using
system.Diagnostics.Process.Start _ ("c:winamp.exe") if winamp for example is installed on another pc in another location i want to run it from my program but i want there to be sort of like a settings.txt file where you can edit the path to winamp and my program should first read the path set in the settings file and then open accordingly. how do i go about doing this?
btw it would be great if you could point me in the right direction for making a windows form where one can edit the settings file within my program without editing the settings file in notepad
I have a System.Windows.Forms.Timer named "DialogBoxTimer" set up on a form. When the form loads, it has a command to stop the timer. I have a routine [SPDataRecd(...)] that handles SerialPort1.DataReceived from a serial port (modem). When it is activated by a modem event, I want it to start the timer [DialogBoxTimer.Start()], but it doesn't work.If the timer is running, SPDataRecd can *stop* the timer [DialogBoxTimer.Stop()], but it can't start a stopped timer.

View 2 RepliesImagine that I have a System.Windows.Forms.Timer with 1000 ms interval. If I call Timer.Start() method and after 500 ms I call again Timer.Start() what happens? The second Start call will reset the interval or not? Are there any side effects?
