I want to display a dialog that has 2 dropdown combo's. The first combo display a list of the available SqlServer servers. The second combo displays the list of available database once the user has selected a server. how to populate the combo's?
I don't really know how to code but am pretty good at tweaking. I'm trying to set up a script that I can run to delete a single file, multiple files, a folder or multiple folders on a list of servers.I was thinking that the script could read the files to be deleted from a .txt file and apply the deletion to a list of servers in another .txt file.Example:
FilesToBeDeleted.txt: \(insert_server_name_from_list)c$Program FilesBINexample_file.rpt or
connect my vb.net application to a remote sql server database, so every one who installs the application would be able to connect to the same remote database. the application would obviously require the internet to run.i also want the option to add more databases in the future, preferably one for each business who would use my software.i am wondering the best way to set up this server that could hold multiple databases. i would think i have two options:
1) set up the server myself on a dedicated computer
2) pay for some type of service that host sql server dataases
so how would i go about executing these options? i dont know the first thing. which option is better?i do however know how to connect to a remote database so thats not what i am asking.
Right now, inside the access file, the mssql tables are set up as linked tables so queries can be written using tables from both databases. (e.g. "select * db1.table1 where db1.table1.somevalue not in db2.table1", or select into tables like that one)These queries need to be moved into a VB.NET project, but still be linked to the access file.ng loops or something?
I have a client that has the basic database on a server(sql server 2005 express database) and wants to work on his laptop from his home, so i guess that i can install the software on his laptop but how will the 2 databases be synchronized, having same data. the synchronization will be made once a day in the morning when he returns to his office. How can this be accomplished?
I am trying to Connect my VB.net Window Application to IBM_DB2 Database.I have used the same method to connect to previous other databases such as SQL Server, Oracle. But getting an error in DB2.
Dim cn As New OdbcConnection("dsn=Sample;uid=db2admin;pwd=password") 'Sample is DSN
cn.Open()
Dim da As New OdbcDataAdapter("Select * from Employee", cn)[code]......
Every time I execute my application and the app try to access the database I received an error message telling me that the user cannot login into the database. This is because the VS Server Explorer have the connection opened. What I need is that every time I debug (F5) my app the Server Explorer close the connection with the database so I do not have to stop the execution and manually close the connection. Is this is possible? Is there any way I can setup the debug or the Server Explorer to do this?
I'm using the TcpClient and TcpListener classes to read/write to the network when a request comes in on port 25. All I'm trying to do at the moment is make it so that my server program can receive SMTP messages from other SMTP servers. I've tested in Telnet - if I connect to my own IP on port 25 and type EHLO, MAIL FROM, RCPT TO, DATA etc then all works as it should and the details I entered are logged by the program (it doesnt do anything about delivering these details/email yet).all looks good... but then when I try and just send an email to my domain from my work account I can see that a connection is made to my program and the string "EHLO workdomain.com " is received by my program - my program responds to the remote SMTP server with "250-mydomain.com Hello" and then a CrLF and then "250-OK". After that point however, my app does not receive anything further at all from the server at work. I'm guessing I am doing something wrong with the data I'm returning when it sends EHLO but can anyone point me in the correct direction?
I was using telnet to test with, it seems that I have made it work only with telnet.In telnet each time I type a key the data is passed to the server, however with a real SMTP server it just sends each entire command in one go. So after altering my server a little I can now get it to respond with the 250-OK which I thought it already was doing.. but it still doesnt work. The remote server just sends EHLO and then thats it nothing more.Something interesting, at the moment I am ending all of my responses to the remote server with VbLf - if I change this to VbCrLf (which is what I believe it is meant to be according to the SMTP standard) then I get an infinite amount of empty strings sent to my program (or perhaps some other character that just shows as an empty string in intellisense when stepping through the code). Changing it back to just vbLf or ControlChars.Lf makes it go back to just sending EHLO and then nothing else..
I am trying to verify connectivity from my application to various servers - For now I am only concerned with mail servers... (later SQL etc)Before anyone gets all upset and thinking this is for SPAM - wrong - these are to confirm connectivity from the application for sending logs OR to ensure the SQL conneciton is working appropriately - Those that want to SPAM can do this simply by getting LINUX and doing it for free with ANY mail client (I add this ONLY because MOST SMTP threads go unanswered... which is silly... there are MANY good reasons to work with mail within an application.....)So what I have tried is opening a telnet session, grabbing the output, and going from there...But it is not working.... the output contains nothing specific to the telnet session I initiate - and.... of course from the command prompt manually i DO get the proper responses
[code]...
I get the command prompt header, I see the commands... I see the prompts... but after the telnet command there is nothing I am assuming there is an issue redirecting telnet info and the telnet session terminates the second I try to read the data
Error Message: "This server version is not supported. Only servers up to Microsoft SQL 2005 are supported VB.NET" I am using VB.NET 2008 and attempting to connect to SQL Server 2008 with XP as the operating system. I have service pack 1 installed in Visual Studio but this error message presists. The articles I have read on this error said to install sp1 as a solution but I have done that and the error persists. FYI, the error does not occur when I am using code to connect to SQL Server but when I attempt to connect using one of the designer wizards this error occure.
Ok i have a script that i have been working on for quite awhile and well its not working right i can't figure out how i would use Server.Mappath to show me all the file names from a URI. I have tried using a simple Directory Info but i get a Error "URI not supported" so i saw i can use Server.Mappath but how would i use this?
I need to download an .exe from the web/ftp server and execute it. (it's a setup program)The application would use the WebClient (probably) class to downlad the files, and presumably would display progress to the user as it goes.

I have a simple tcp server listening for clients. I use a mud client to test if it's working. The mud client says that it's connected to 127.0.0.1, but the server doesn't show the msgbox that a client has connected.[code]
I'm using the details on connecting to a server from a client here: [URL]
It's quite out dated but I just need it for a quick project. I need the client to auto-connect. This program will be running on the LAN only, is there a way to find on what computer the server is running on (i.e. all computers hosting the specific server on port x). I've seen it on a couple of games that run on LAN. Without access to the internet, they manage to display all available games on the local LAN. I'm doing this with VB.net.
I am using the following code to get the Disk I/O on various servers. For now I am just retrieving the DiskReadsPerSec to get a feel for it. The return data gives a uint32 for each drive on the server and a total. My questions is what is the time frame that this represents? Is this at the second that my code polls the drive or is this over the last few seconds or do I need to do multiple runs to get an average.
My intention is to build a graph for each drive so I wonder how often I need to poll the drive to get a acurate value.

i am trying to connect to 10 mysql servers and get aprox. 5000 rows. If i make the test from local network it works but if i take the test using mysql servers (same version) from different city it shows me the error "Timeout expired. The timeout period elapsed prior to completion of the operation or the server is not responding".[code]
I designed an app that basically gets paths to servers I have admin rights to, I am doing such things such as checking available space on the servers etc., the problem I am having is my app only works if I manually login via something like (start, run, \server) and supply my admin username and password just to store that authentication.How do I code this so it prompts the user in my program ONE time for all 5 servers (they all use the same username and password)
A little background, the client that I am working with has an enterprise AD that is a mess. They have no containers for servers or any organization what-so-ever. They also shutdown servers and did not remove them properly from AD. So I needed to come up with a program that would find all the windows server, identify them by OS, and then check to see if they would actually respond to a ping. (I am aware that this is not a perfect method if they are refusing ICMP's but its good enough for my purposes). The completion of the program will display all the information and then allow the user to save the excel workbook in a location that they choose.

As the title describes I am looking for a way to query for the UTC time from NTP/SNTP Servers from 'VB.NET'The only libraries I have found for VB.NET to such tasks appear require a fairly large sum of different forms of currency.
The title of this thread perhaps does not explain my problem correctly.Actually i am developing a financial software for a company.The software is similar to a banking system. The software is being developed using VB 2008 and SQL Server 2008.The company has its branches located at different locations. They are having a centralized SQL Server at their Head Office.The branches are connected to Head Office using a VPN.Now what we are worried about is when the VPN gets disconnected.For that we will be having a SQL server installed at each of the branches.When VPN is connected the the details entered will be directly at the Head Office database,Meanwhile a program will be executed which will get details from the Head Office database at each of the branches in a XML file.When a branch gets disconnected from the VPN another program will get the XML details into the Sql Server installed at the branch. When the branch is connected again Another application will create a xml file from the local server and insert its details into the HO server.The sizes of the XML are reaching upto around 150 to 200 mb. I am using Dataset.WriteXML and Dataset.ReadXMl. I have tested this on my local machine it is taking upto 30-40 secs.I dont know how much it will take when the actual application is installed. How can i speed things up ? Does anyone have any idea on how i can do the whole process more smoothly and faster?
I have the following code which connects to my webservice online:
Dim c As New com.*********.checkLicense() c.CookieContainer = New System.Net.CookieContainer() c.setApplicationGuid("e3b59b3d-4150-4cb0-adda-f5db004f362f")
[code]....
Now what I need to know is, if a user has proxy settings configured in IE, will this code automatically use the proxy?Also what happens when said proxy needs authentication?Anyone know how this can be adapted. I know about the System.Net.WebProxy class, however I would really need this to pick up the settings from IE by default and then if required (and only if required) pop up for proxy authentication.
