I have a client that has the basic database on a server(sql server 2005 express database) and wants to work on his laptop from his home, so i guess that i can install the software on his laptop but how will the 2 databases be synchronized, having same data. the synchronization will be made once a day in the morning when he returns to his office. How can this be accomplished?
View 2 RepliesI need to sync the data of a ms-sql 2005 & 2008 server to my development server (mssql 2005 & 2008). The problem is I can't create .bak files, no permissions (to access the network share where the backup is saved). The problem is not that I may not view the data (I have complete read access to the production server). I can also backup data to csv files and read them in on my system, but that's rather painful (encoding, foreign key reference constraints, having to do it for every table, etc...). The problem is that the admin has no time to set me the necessary permissions (he has larger problems...).
How can I still sync the data to my development server ? I need some kind of syncing to a file, then transport anyhow (manual by FTP if necessary), and then update my development database. I've already tried backing up to a back file on a network share, but that doesn't work either. I don't mind if I have to code a bit in my free time, but I really don't want to do all the low level stuff myself, like resolving constraint dependencies.

am working on a project and am using sql server 2005 express as my database server, the problem is i can;t connect to the sql server from any machine on my local network (windows).

View 1 RepliesI have been reading through lots of sample code and explainations regaurding the uses of Sync lock in multithreaded programs but still am a little fuzzy on this.
Am I correct in assuming that if I have two or more threads running the same procedure which has a sync lock on a shared resource that the first thread to call the lock will complete its update of the resource and any of the other threads to try and lock this object would just wait in line until it is released by the first object?
I am also a bit fuzzy on what is actually locked by the sync lock.
Lets say I have code that uses sync lock and the object specified is the current thread. Does that also lock the shared resources that are referenced within the sync lock block or would I need to use another method to do this?
What if my shared resourses were all in another class and I issue a sync lock on that class before I try to modify the resources would that be the proper way to go about it?
And last but not least is there any need to use sync lock when the shared resource is in effect read only [meaning the program will read the value but will not change it during runtime]
connect my vb.net application to a remote sql server database, so every one who installs the application would be able to connect to the same remote database. the application would obviously require the internet to run.i also want the option to add more databases in the future, preferably one for each business who would use my software.i am wondering the best way to set up this server that could hold multiple databases. i would think i have two options:
1) set up the server myself on a dedicated computer
2) pay for some type of service that host sql server dataases
so how would i go about executing these options? i dont know the first thing. which option is better?i do however know how to connect to a remote database so thats not what i am asking.
