View 1 RepliesI have a VB.net app (which I will turn into a webform soon), my app generates a datatable of values (3 columns and on average about 1000-3000 rows).What is the best way to get this data table into an SQL Server? I can create a table on SQL Server no problem but I've found simply looping through the datatable and doing 1000-3000 insert statements is slow (a few seconds). I'd like to make this as streamlined as possible so was wondering is there is a native way to insert all records in a batch via ADO.net or something.
View 2 RepliesI'm trying to insert data onto a SQL server database. The Database connects up fine and retrieves data but I'm having difficulty inserting new data. [code] The query works if I run it through the table in database explorer and value of dim h shows 1 (rows affected). However, nothing gets updated.

View 2 RepliesI have a VB.NET application that creates a dataview from sql table and exports it as an excel file. Now, the data is inserted value by value. Instead, I want to insert the data from the dataview as a bulk insert on to the excel file. The data insert should happen from the third row, as I need to use the first two rows for column insert and data formating (which is done later in the program using excel macro.).Heres the code I wish to upgrade :
Dim strConn As String = "Data Source = LV-SQL2; Initial Catalog = TC_MASTER; user id = SQL2JOB; password = ******** "
Dim strSql1 As String = "Select Customer_id_1, file_name from customer_list_DA order by customer_id_1"
Dim da1 As New SqlDataAdapter(strSql1, strConn)

I am trying to do something fairly simple.. allow my user to import thier data from Excel into SQL Server, where it can be used by the application.To do this, I'm using the fairly simple code that is common everywhere I look:
strFilePath = "Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0;Data Source=" + fdlgFileOpen.FileName + ";Extended Properties=Excel 8.0"
connExcel = New OleDbConnection(strFilePath)
connExcel.Open()
[Code]...
Now, on my development computer this code works perfectly. The data imports, and I can go on my merry way.
On the TEST computer, this code throws the error: "ODBC -- Connection to {SQL Server} servernamesqlservername failed." This seems very odd to me, because I'm using exactly the same SQL Server and database to interact with the application, and all the other screens in the application work perfectly. The test computer CAN connect to this SQL Server, but it keeps throwing this error whenever I try import data from Excel.I've tried everything I can think of - using the server's IP address instead of the server name, sending the SQL Server administrator data along with the request, taking out the Trusted_Connection=Yes... nothing works. What is going on here? How can this code work fine on my computer, and hiccup on another?

View 8 Repliesconnect my vb.net application to a remote sql server database, so every one who installs the application would be able to connect to the same remote database. the application would obviously require the internet to run.i also want the option to add more databases in the future, preferably one for each business who would use my software.i am wondering the best way to set up this server that could hold multiple databases. i would think i have two options:
1) set up the server myself on a dedicated computer
2) pay for some type of service that host sql server dataases
so how would i go about executing these options? i dont know the first thing. which option is better?i do however know how to connect to a remote database so thats not what i am asking.

View 2 RepliesRight now, inside the access file, the mssql tables are set up as linked tables so queries can be written using tables from both databases. (e.g. "select * db1.table1 where db1.table1.somevalue not in db2.table1", or select into tables like that one)These queries need to be moved into a VB.NET project, but still be linked to the access file.ng loops or something?
