Standard Practice For Accessing Back End Data Which Logon To Use
Feb 8, 2012
What is the standard method for accessing back end data, which logon should you use? For example we have applications that require the user to login but then use an admin account to access the data from the backend. But there are also applications that require the user to login and use those credentials to access the backend data.We are in the process of creating an application that will require the user to login and would like to implement the more common method(standard practice) of accessing data.If there are alternatives those are also welcome. This will be made in ASP.Net 3.5 or higher and may include Windows Applications(VB.Net) as well.I dont want to have two sets of credentials. What I am asking is which credentials are normally used to access the Database. For example one one application may access 2 or more database's. Now would you use the same credentials they used to login to the application or would you use the admin account to access the data?Maybe this should be a seperate question but if I ended up using integrated security to access the database would the user be able to simply connect to the database using his AD account? Either through an ODBC connection and MS Access or equiv.
I have pretty large file names that follow a standard naming practice and I am attempting to write a RegEx to match them. When you are reading the file name it follows the convention: p_d(set of 8 numeric)_t(set of 8numeric)images.ext(any# of alphanumeric)
For example: p_d12345678_t12345678_images.ext_0
The few I attempted brought back unrecognized escape sequence OR no matches found. For example this one brings back no matches: fileInfo = value 'that changes depending on what file I'm looking for RegEx("p_dd*_t" & fileInfo & "d*_images\.ext_w*")
I am wanting to create a logon similar to the Windows Live logon, so in other words. user has frmLogon and is located in Australia. The user enters his/her details and then the program connects to a server in the United States and checks the Username and Password to make sure it is correct if it is correct it allows the user to logon and move to the next stage, if it is wrong it will give him an error message. I am wondering if anyone has a tutorial or source code laying around that I can rip apart and see how it works. I want to put the database on my server and connect to it from my desktop using the logon form.
I am in the processing of migrating from web services to WCF, and rather than trying to make old code work in WCF, I am just going to rebuild the services. As a part of this process, I have not figured out the best design to provide easy to consume services and also support future changes.
I have the following function, Dim results() As Object = Me.Invoke("webdirect", New Object() {Company, LocationCode, CustomerNumber, OrderNumber, OrderRef, OrderDate, WebLines}) o_Company = CType(results(1),System.Nullable(Of Integer)) o_LocationCode = CType(results(2),String) o_CustomerNumber = CType(results(3),String) [Code] .....
So the return type of this function is a string, but I would like to get it back to its original form so I can access the individual sections i.e. o_LocationCode,o_CustomerNumber, etc how can I do that ?
Entire functions looks like this Public Function webdirect(<System.Xml.Serialization.XmlElementAttribute(IsNullable:=true)> ByVal Company As System.Nullable(Of Integer), <System.Xml.Serialization.XmlElementAttribute(IsNullable:=true)> ByVal LocationCode As String, <System.Xml.Serialization.XmlElementAttribute(IsNullable:=true)> ByVal CustomerNumber As String, [Code] .....
Called like this Dim returnArray As String returnArray = client.webdirect(10, "123", "123", "123", "147", "2011-11-1", webLinesArray, 10, "", "", "", "", "", webRespArray) No errors on run time but the string seems to be just blank, thats why i was wondering how I convert the string back to the array so I can access the individual elements.
I recall being told by a professor the following is bad practice. But it makes stepping through code a lot less tedious. I'm just solicting comments on pros and cons:
Friend Class MyClass Private isEmpty As Boolean Public Property IsEmpty() As Boolean
say you have a database that you want to store 100 different recipes in. Out of that 100 recipes 20 have 5 ingredients, 30 have 7 ingredients, 30 have 4 ingredients and 20 have 6 ingredients. So what's the best practice for storing an unknown number of items in a database?
Currently what I am doing in these situations is storing them in a single field in a database separated by a comma. Then when I have to retrieve them I split them by the comma into an array. This doesn't seem right to me but I haven't noticed an impact on speed or efficiency, so what would be the best practice to handle this situation?
How do I handle user submitted data to ensure best practice programming? I would like to know what are the best practice programming tasks in relation to users submitting data through a web form to a website. I am particularly interested in any C# or VB.NET commands that should be used through out the process from the moment the user hits the submit button until the data hits the database. I have been reading about reasons why you may want to take precautions such as SQL injections etc.
I build program to launch application(launch application can as local profile or can as network credentials) using Advapi32 "Create Process WithLogonW".but I got the problem, I can't capture message of standard output(Stdout) and Standard Error(stderr).could everyone help me how to capture message and the code?
I usually use standard button and do the settings like causevalidation etc if required.
i decided to use toolstrip and inserted some buttons but end up that it doesn't do the validation for control and also doesn't call leave event of textbox control.
so my question is, anyway to use regular button functionality for toolstripbutton or there is a way to add regular button on toolstrip.
Now, I want to extract each of the <td>...</td> group. How shoud I do this?I tried to use xml to do this. However, since xml doesn't support < and & in the content area and I can't guarantee there is no such two characters.
I'm new but will most certainly be hanging around and maybe even answer some posts in other sections. I have the following issue: I have a vb.net web page that places data into an access database. If I leave one of the fieldS blank, (even though Access has a default value of '0' instead of null) when I click to view the results in another page, the page fails with an error.
"System.InvalidOperationException: The provider could not determine the String value. For example, the row was just created, the default for the String column was not available, and the consumer had not yet set a new String value. etc etc" IF I put any figure in the blank field, even if it's 0, the page functions and works. Baffling. So, the data input page really needs to check, 'if nothing has been entered, automatically append the database with 0. Here's some of the page code: (Standard Record Insertion Wizard within DW cs3, plus Validation)
I haven't done any VB coding since school (15 years ago) but currently have a need to run what "sounds" a fairly simple app at work. I'm hoping some of you might be able to give me some pointers as to whether or not my idea is possible, and if it is, how best to approach it.
I work for a company where we send a number of standard emails to potential clients asking them to contribute to our magazine . if no response we then send a number of follow up emails. each and every time I send a new email to a new prospect I'm editing one of our template emails, putting their name and email address into outlook and manually sending emails. Then for every reminder I'm going back into outlook, clicking reply all and then c&p'ing our second or third reminder emails in each and every time. needless to say at least 2-3 hours of my day are spent editing and resending the same emails on outlook.
I have two issues I am trying to correct...First am trying to get my listbox1 to be the selected Comport used to do the send data and get data back.
My second issue is its requiring me to send two times to get my read data back as complete data and has odd shapes with the data I get back in front of and after the regular txt.
Beware, I am very new at this so please take it easy on me... Most help I did find was for older versions I only have the 2010 Visual studio Professional...
A function of my app is to encrypt a file with TripleDES. The problem is that when the app reads the data, encrypts it, and writes it back, the new data is appended. I need it to overwrite the original contents. Here is the code:
Dim DES As New System.Security.Cryptography.TripleDESCryptoServiceProvider[code]............
I have a situation where I serialized data from a dataset to an xml file as a method of backup.I am trying to get the data deserialized back to the dataset. But for some reason, I cannot get the data to persist back to the DB.I don't receive any error messages either. The first chunk of code is the serialization code and the second chunk is the deserialization code.I can show that the deserialization back to the dataset is complete because this code in the 2nd block DataGridView2.DataSource = Movie_dbDataSet.movie_tb - displays the data in correct form all it is all there in the datagridview2.I call the update method but it does not get persisted back to the db.[code]
i m preparing a project in vs 2008 i m unable to add new row to my database. i have created database in Microsoft SQL Server Compact 3.5 (.NET Framework Data Provider for Microsoft SQL Server Compact 3.5)my problem is the data is updated in dataset but database is not updated.please help me out as i have to submit my project on 20 of aug 2009.
I've an application that's uploading data to a server. Occasionally the server returns a 403 response from a call to HttpWebRequest.GetRequestStream(). The response contains more data than simply the response code, but I can't figure out how to access it. Is there a way to do this?
So I'm a little rusty on my VB.NET skills, but I decided to take up a project to get me working in it again. Problem is I've hit a slight road block and I was hoping someone here might be able to point me in the right direction.I have a spreadsheet (or 3, but they could be combined if that makes it easier) that contain interest rates. I need my program to use user-input to select which interest rate it needs and then calculate and output the grand total, without the end user ever seeing or even being aware of the interest rate table.
It's all fine, accessing files and directories by using a dynamic link library (DLL), but is it possible to do online?Suppose I want to parse a file, which would normally be simple in visual basic; is it possible to call functions from a DLL using a server-side language, say PHP?
I have placed a button on data repeater (called datarepeater1) so that it is repeated with other controls. When I click this button, How do I access/reference the text value of a textbox control called TxtAnimalID on the same row? (This would be something like the current row I am on).
Is it possible to add, edit, view and delete records using a file only (instead of a database) and .Net 2005 (VB.Net/C#)? The concept is that a file that'll work more-or-less like a database. One can add, edit, view, delete and query data to and from the file. The file, either cannot be opened directly or data inside the file should be in some encrypted form so that even if the file is opened no one can comprehend it. Data inside the file can only be manipulated by a front end application i.e. .Net 2005.
I am using Ms-Access 2007 with vb.net. My problem is that I have a table with column name strval which has following values: 2, 3, 43, 5, 6 etc., in each row. Now I want to search for that row which contains e.g 2 in column strval. I use SELECT * FROM tbl where tbl.strval IN( '2' ) but this doesn't work.
Does anyone out there have any experience programatically retreiving the lat/long from a GPS attached to a mobile PC?team I'm on is currently looking at hardware options--as the programmer who will eventually have to live with whatever is selected I was wondering if anyone out there has had experience writing .Net programs that interface with a GPS?
This shows no errors initially, but complains about not being able to convert "string()" to "string" once I run it. I'm assuming this is because the data I want is a line of string entries, but I can't find a solution.FYI, this is a project I'm working on to heal a Conficker attack at work. Our third party support has stopped the spread and healed the servers, but has now left me with the job of doing a 3 minute registry fix on each of our 400 computers, hence the attempt to automate it!
I'm populating a DataGridView from a file with the following
Dim fnum As Short = FreeFile() Dim inputLine As String Dim i As Short = 0 Dim strAuditDate As String Dim strAuditTime As String Dim msg As String
[Code]...
When I do this, the MessageBox.Show shows the contents of a row, which is tab delimited. How do I get the data that I read to display in columns of the Gridview?
I am having some trouble accessing the data in a listview. The data in my listview is popluated from the database which works fine. What I want is the user to be able to click on the entry in the listview and it show them a messagebox with all the data from the listview. I have 1 main item and 2 subitems in the listview.
