Stopwatch Function - User Break Time Length

Jan 18, 2012

I'm currently trying to code a program which basically uses the stopwatch function to time the length of the users break. Basically when I work at home I want to allow my self 4% of my shift length in personal breaks.

So far I have
Public Class Form1
Dim elpsTmr As New Stopwatch
Dim ts As TimeSpan = elpsTmr.Elapsed
Private Sub txtshiftlength_TextChanged(ByVal sender _
As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles txtshiftlength.TextChanged
[Code] .....

The only fields I don't have working are hard ones. I'm trying to figure out how to subtract the length of the last break used from the minutes allowed to take and display it in a text box to display how many minutes you have left to take. And also to work out how many minutes have been used since the program has been opened or reset.

Using The Stopwatch To Record The Length Of A Thread.sleep Event?

Nov 10, 2011

I have a control thread that starts up a secondary thread and when the secondary thread finishes, the control thread restarts the secondary thread. On this secondary thread, I use a stopwatch to record a thread.sleep event. Is there any reason, under any circumstance, why the stopwatch elapsed millisecond value (499) would be 1ms less than the sleep time (500 ms)This doesn't happen all the time or even a lot, I'm just curious if there is any physical reason for this to happen.

Stopwatch With Split Time In OOP?

Oct 23, 2007

I designing a stopwatch type OO program and am stuck on trying to figure out the split time function of a stop watch. I want to list the split times in a list box as the user presses the split button and also display the final split time when the user presses the stop button. I feel I'm real close but just can't get over the hump, especially trying to code in OOP. The rest of my program works fine (start, stop, elapsed time). I am programming in VB 2005 and will display my relative code from both the class and form areas.

C# - Diagnostics.StopWatch Time Lag In XP But Not Win7

Sep 25, 2011

ETA: Using Environment.TickCount does not present the same problem. ETA2: I should add that I don't actually use the Forms.Timer in my app - as this would negate the use of a high frequency timer. I've used it here to simplify the code. ETA3: I've published a workaround as an answer below. I'm having problems with the StopWatch class that I'm observing on a laptop with XP but not a different laptop with Win7. Here's the test code:

Allows A User To Select A Program To Run At A Certain Time For A Specific Amount Of Time All Choosen By The User

Jul 1, 2010

I have a program that allows a user to select a program to run at a certain time for a specific amount of time all choosen by the user. Everything works with the exception of if my program has launched the other program, my program become non-responsive. Meaning I am not able to look at that window again. Not that one really needs too, because when time is up my program closes the program it opened, then closes itself. I just want to be able to see my program when the other program is running. how to do this and perhaps drop me some links, that would be wonderful. This is what I have coded, but like I stated there are no code errors.

Stopwatch Ticks - Trigger An Event For Each Tick Of The Stopwatch Without Missing Any Ticks?

Oct 5, 2011

So a timer's maximum interval is 1 which is a thousand ticks a second. A Stopwatch's frequency is 2238906 ticks a second on my pc...

I am wondering if there is a reliable way to trigger an event for each tick of the stopwatch without missing any ticks...

If I can somehow get a Tick event for the stopwatch, I believe I can increase the resolution of my input recorder....

C# - Convert A Date And Time To UTC Time Based On The Time Zone Of The User?

Sep 6, 2009

I have an ASP.NET application with a SQL Server back end. I am storing all my dates in UTC format and doing the appropriate conversions to the local time zone of the browser viewing it. One of the pages asks for a start date and end date (no times).

I am taking the start date and setting the time to 00:00:00 hours (midnight) and I'm taking the End time and adding a time of 23:59:59, so that the date range covers the whole day. Now what I'm trying to do is do a SQL query to do a search for records in this date range. The problem is, the data in SQL is in UTC time and the user is typing their dates and times in their local date and times. My quickest solution was to convert the date and time to UTC, then search the records. However, by doing this, I am to believe ASP.NET converts the given time and date to UTC based on the server time zone. How can I convert a date and time to UTC time based on the time zone of the user?

C# - .Net Equivalent Of The Old Vb Left(string, Length) Function?

May 9, 2009

As a non .net programmer I'm looking for the .net equivalent of the old vb function left(string, length). It was lazy in that it worked for any length string. As expected, left("foobar", 3) = "foo" while, most helpfully, left("f", 3) = "f".

In .net string.Substring(index, length) throws exceptions for everything out of range. In Java I always had the Apache-Commons lang.StringUtils handy. In Google I don't get very far searching for string functions.

Edit:@Noldorin - My first encounter, although it took me several seconds to do the same in c#:

[Code]...

Note the static class and method as well as the this keyword. Yes, they are as simple to invoke as "foobar".Left(3). See also c# extensions on msdn.

(The number entered will be unique too). For example, if the number entered is 000000000000000000001, the result should be something like 2s5As5A62s. I looked at the typical, like MD5, SHA-1, etc., but they give high length results.

Get Ctrl+Break On Laptop Without A Break Key?

Nov 12, 2009

-new Dell laptop without a Break key.

-VB6 and VS2008 IDEs use Ctrl+Break to pause execution for debugging.

-I need a way to map another key combination to trigger a Ctrl+Break

My setup may make this easier or harder but to be clear I am running Kubuntu 9.10 (latest stable) and WinXP in a VirtualBox VM. Obviously all VB6/VS2008 dev is taking place in the virtual machine. So maybe it's possible to have the linux host send through Ctrl+Break based on a key mapping, or maybe it's possible to remap directly in WinXP. I'd settle for any solution as atm I need to use the XP On-Screen keyboard to send a Ctrl+Break.

DB Synchronisation Behavior - Can A User Read The Entry While Other User Is Updating That On Exact Same Time

Now my question: Can Person A read the entry "test1" while Person B is updating/deleting the entry at the exact same time? What happens in the worst case? An old match/empty match or can it cause any kind of exception/error(e.g. "TableLocked-Exception")?
