Stripping XML And Writing To ListBox

Aug 12, 2010

I am currently working on a project in where when a Coordinators ID is selected from a combo box, I need to strip an XML file and place the subject code and name in a list box. ("code" - "Name" - "Department number"). The xml file is written as follows. The main problem I am having is the fact the coordinatorsID is after the subect code, I have never dealt with this before.

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" standalone="yes"?>
<start xmlns:xsi="[URL]">
<subject><SubjCode>AV597</SubjCode>
<SubjectName>VEHICLE AERODYNAMICS</SubjectName>

Asp.net - Stripping Domain Name From LoggedInTemplate?

Feb 17, 2011

I have a .Net 4 web app that uses Windows authentication and all works well however there is one trivial bug that is driving me nuts!

Visual Studio puts together the following for displaying who is logged in

<LoggedInTemplate>
Welcome <span class="bold"><asp:LoginName ID="HeadLoginName" runat="server" /></span>!

[Code]....

The problem is though that this is displaying as <domain>/user rather than just the username which I am assuming it is pulling this value from

System.Threading.Thread.CurrentPrincipal.Identity.Name

However I can't see anyway programtically to amend this?

Writing Data From Listbox To .txt Then Reading .txt Into An Array?

May 15, 2012

Im currently working on a school project and I have encountered a problem in my code. When i write the contents of my listbox to a file called stock.txt it seems write an invisible linebreak in-between each data entry, my problem is that when I load my array on the next form those invisible linebreaks causes my array to load the data incorrectly.

I have attached a pic of my stock.txt file

The Code that Edits and writes to stock.txt

Private Sub BtnRemove_Click(sender As System.Object, e As System.EventArgs) Handles BtnRemove.Click

Stripping Variable Names From Assemblies

Stripping Contact Info From DOC File And Inserting Into Outlook

Jun 16, 2011

I'm essentially re-learning VB for the first time in 15 years to try and accomplish this task - I have a project to do for work which involves taking .doc files which contain hundreds and hundreds of names, addresses, e-mail addresses, and amounts they donated to the non-profit I work at, and inserting them into Outlook's contacts. I'm trying to piece together the bit I've figured out about Outlook/VB integration to do so, but unfortunately, most of the information I can find is the other way around - getting info FROM Outlook and inserting it elsewhere.

The doc file is essentially formatted like this:
FirstName LastName
423815 Central Park West
FirstNameLastName@Somthing.com
$3000.00
And repeat.

So for the email addresses, I obviously need to look for the @ and copy from the previous space or line break to the next - that's the theoretically easy part, along with the money donated, since I can similarly look for the $. The part that I forsee stumping me is, how to discern first and last name, and treat them accordingly, entering them into the right fields in Outlook? Same with the address.

Stripping HTML Function Within Text Areas Content

Mar 10, 2010

I'm writing a small program that loads a folders contained file names into a list box, you then double click one of the file names listed and it appears within the programs text area where the user may freely edit it. I then have given the users options to export the data contained within the text box to a word template. What I'd like to do is add a button which the user can click in order to strip away all the html within the text areas content. I found a solution but for some reason I can't make it work. There are no errors displaying nor does the program crash out, it simply isn't doing what it should be doing.

The function I'm using is below:
Function stripHTML(ByVal strHTML)
'Strips the HTML tags from strHTML using split and join
'Ensure that strHTML contains something
If len(strHTML) = 0 Then
stripHTML = strHTML
[Code] .....

I've used the below snippet in an attempt to put the function to work in the text box.
Private Sub btnHTMLstrip_click()
' calls function stripHTML, applies to text box
richTxtBox.Text = stripHTML(richTxtBox.Text)
End Sub
So, its not working as it should?

Writing Data From Array In One Class To A Listbox In Another Class

Jul 26, 2011

I'm designing a small GUI Windows program that allow staff at a cinema to reserve seats for customers. There will be a total of 60 seats in the cinema. I have two classes in my program:-

1.) MainForm.vb - used for I/O actions and user interaction

2.) SeatManager.vb - used to hold and handle the background methods and functions that make the program work

Here is the code for my MainForm.vb class thusfar:-

Public Class MainForm
Private Const m_totalNumberOfSeats As Integer = 60
Private m_seatManager As SeatManager

[Code]....

Basically, when the program opens, the lstReservations list in the MainForm class will be populated with a total of 60 (m_totalNumberOfSeats) entries to represent 60 seats. Each of these seats will contain the index number from the array m_nameList; this index number (+1) will represent the seat number and then in the lstReservations list, after the seat number, I'd like it to contain the respective entry from the m_nameList array. As all entries will be held in RAM, when the GUI is opened, all m_nameList array entries will be empty. As the user uses the program, they can highlight a row in the lstReservations list and then use the GUI textboxes to enter the customer's name which will then be populated into the respective array entry.

how to, when the GUI opens, ensure that the lstReservations list takes all of the blank entries from the m_nameList array and from there, I can highlight a row to carry out further methods on?

ListBox PreferredHeight - Make ListBox Calculate Correct Integral Height Before ListBox Is Made Visible

Nov 19, 2009

If I set a ListBox.Height = ListBox.PreferredHeight when the control is hidden and IntegralHeight = True, then set it visible:

a) Actual Height reduces by typically 3-5 pixels after redraw (but not 1 pixel per item).

b) PreferredHeight does not not appear to give the correct integral of item heights.

Is there a way to make ListBox calculate the correct integral Height before the ListBox is made visible, so it can be correctly pre-positioned from bottom edge?

Private Sub Form1_Load(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Me.Load

ListBox1.Visible = False

Listbox Items Colour - Two Types Of Items Populating In A Listbox (checked Listbox)

Apr 28, 2009

I am using VB.NET (version 2008). I have two types of items populating in a listbox (checked listbox). For example: lets say one is type "A" and other is "Type B". Their names maybe same so if the user sees those items in listbox then he won;t be able to determine their type until he click on them and checks out its properties. I wanted that I add each item to listbox and colour them so that blue for example means type "A" is there and red means the other. So this way I will be able to know at a glance that how many item of what type is present. I guess it may not be possible to do that in a standard checkedlistbox. I am also using component factory's krypton controls which enhance the gui of an application. But I dunno if I can progress using that.

Interface And Graphics :: Listbox Event - Scrollbar That Comes With ListBox Is Too Small For Touch Screens

Jan 6, 2011

The scrollbar that comes with the ListBox is too small for touch screens, so I use my own scrollbar instead. But when you do this on various forms you end up repeating a lot of code. So my solution was to create a custom scollbar that has a property I can set to the control I want it to be a scrollbar for. In vb6, I can use the withevents keyword to get access to the control's events so that all the scrollbar related code can be in the custom scrollbar object I created, except...I had to create a refresh method for the consuming code to use to let the scrollbar know when the number of items changes. The scrollbar doesn't need to be told how many items there are because it has access to the control, but for a listbox there is no event to tie into when an item is added/removed so not 100% of the scrollbar related code could be encapsulated.

[2008] Copying From One Listbox To Another And Keeping The Paths Of The Files In The Listbox's

Jan 26, 2009

I am having problems with copying from one listbox to another and keeping the paths of the files in the listbox's. At the moment i have two listbox's, listbox1 shows the list of files without the directory paths showing. Listbox2 is used to add items from listbox1 which work ok but what i need is to be able to preserve the directory paths to each file. how to do this and have searched high and low for a solution without any luck.

I have worked out one way of doing it but i think there is a better way of doing it as the reverse does not seem to work. So basicly i want listbox1 to list the files without the paths and pass it on to listbox2 so that the files can be copied to temp directory as they are being add to listbox2.

Below is my

[CODE]...................

Routine to add items from listbox1 to listbox2: I have created another listbox3 (which is in bold), which is hidded under listbox1 and holds all the paths to the files and is use to copy the files from there original directory to a new directory.

[CODE]...................

Routine to add items back to listbox1 and remove them from listbox2. I have created another listbox4 which is hidden under listbox2 which i was trying add the paths from listbox3.
